AUSTRALIA face Denmark tonight in Pim's final chance to have a look at his squad before deciding on his final 23 to take into the tournament properly - and we'll be calling the game, minute by minute right here.

They do. Looks like it will be a fun match to watch.

Denmarks squad looks like Australias in 06' lots of good players not really any great players but have potential to be a real force in the World cup if the coach can find a good balance.

The biggest problem for us tonight is going to be scoring goals. Denmark are very organised defensively and a tough nut to crack. Bendtner upfront will also cause us some problems in the air.

How long now?

Ironically, the Australia v Denmark game in London was one of the first Socceroos games on pay-TV. Now it is one of the last before they return to FTA (all be it momemtarily).
Can't wait for NT games to be placed on the anti-siphoning list so all Australians can watch them play again.

I dont have Foxtel so I went down to the local sports club to watch the game. The club said they counldnt get reception from Foxtel and cant get through to Foxtel by phone. Amusingly, they also said they knew I would ask about the game as soon as they saw me because I "looked like a soccer person", lol.

Ahwell, looks like the 442 commentary is as good as it gets tonight.

Interesting how we are ranked 20 in the world and Denmark are ranked 36 and yet Denmark are TAB favourites going into the match.

I'm sure the horns are adding fantastic atmosphere for the 200 strong crowd, shame the million of us watching on TV have to suffer through this shit noise for the next 90 mins and a month long of games.

there's serious issues in our defence when the ball is coming in from wide positions. there's massive holes between our full-backs and our centre backs. neill and moore are staying goalside, but the ball is coming in to foot all the time. get in front boys!!!

I think the Denmark goalkeeper is having a cup of tea with biscuits. Socceroo attack gone missing.

No it makes you ignorant of football. I'd rather win than entertain you buddy and all the Socceroos agree.

Whether the style is good or bad we are very sound defensively across the whole squad. when you make wholesale changes the flood gates can open but two games in a row now it hasn't.

And we take our chances, unlike many more favoured teams. Good teams make their own luck. These boys can win against ANY opposition.

How does it make you ignorant of football you loser, there isn't anything wrong with wanting your team to play good entertaining football all though I agree that the result is more important at international level.

I wasn't saying I'd rather be entertained than win the game, I was just saying that criticising the style played doesn't make you anti-aussie.

watching this game, and no we haven't been fantastic by any means, but there is enough there to suggest we won't be pushovers and have a better than even chance of getting out of our group.

1 zip is a good result for us considering we are in a heavy training period now we now need the Serbs to bottle and lose again this time against Poland.

looking at those stats, we dominated the shots on goal and won the possession. for an australian team, that's pretty much all we can hope for. let's wait and see how we go against a more attacking team in USA.

Holman played some positive football. Good on him. He doesn't seem like such a waste of space now.

I think Grella is out of his depth. I can see him getting a red quite easily at the world cup. Both in the Denmark and the NZ game he has done some highly questionable tackles. I never feel easy watching him play these days.

It wasn't great, but I don't think it was woeful...much better in the second half.

Because Kennedy walked the ball into the net against in a game that means next to nothing? Why would that change anything.

Theres nothing anti-aussie about it. If anything the way the team is playing is 'anti-aussie.' Of course results are what counts but we would be playing at a higher standard, actually entertaining fans(say what you like its not damn chess its a sport that relies on public interest) and could achieve better results or at very least the same. Its far too late now and Pim wouldnt know how to play football anyway but i hope the next coach can adjust the tactics somewhat.

We're playing against fucking Denmark. Every time we had a chance to break and counter it cross halfway, then went back to one of the defensive midfielders then to the cb or keeper.

How are we going to go against Germany?

We scored a lucky goal of a fluke deflected cross, and was that was our only shot on target?

You'll keep this attitude even if we beat Germany with one of those 'lucky, fluky' goals won't you? :roll:

Not the best performance from the aussies yet again. The Danes really lacked an x-factor tonight and we were relatively fortunate.

Good to get another win under our belt in our first real test. But I'm waiting to see what happens when we take on the yanks.

My $0.02 (if anyone even reads it):

Holman not constantly turning over and played well, good game by him - he was the only one that was running at players and forcing bad decisions, something others should've been doing. Grella is a tool, we cannot afford to risk using him. I reckon Vidosic should be an absolute certainty. Garcia didn't impress me. Moore has stepped up a notch, thank god. Despite the odd ball movement Wilkshire is an absolute champ at those crosses from the right. Kennedy was amazingly calm and collected with the ball at his feet in close to goal, I am SO happy to see his confidence at that sort of level

What I found interesting is that now in both games the non preferred midfield seemed to control that area of the field better. Was it because the other side also had their non-preferred on at that time? I don't know. But the passing was much more direct, precise, and showed some imagination.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Under verbeek we don't have the confidence to play cohesive attacking football, whether it be on the counter or in a game we should be dominating, it just doesn't happen.

We're going to struggle against Germany's clinical nature if we don't take advantages of openings like that.

We had two shots on target IIRC.

Grella just doesn't have it at the moment, Allardyce has encouraged him to turn into a hatchet.

He controlled their midfield as he always does. But he didn't make that game-breaking play.

Poulsen dictated play for the Danes and we didn't let him get the moment of brilliance bar 1 shot in.

Agree. Grella has got to go. He did three bad tackles in this friendly. one right in the first 10 mins.
In the WC he will be sent off early, we will be down 10 me for 80 mins and struggle to keep a clean sheet. The guy needs anger management to calm him down.
For the rest of the team. Bloody brilliant effort.
One of the best soccer matches I've seen Australia play so far :)

You could see it was a warm up game, it had that feel to it, which makes auskiwi's comments in the other thread to me even more laughable. (oh Kiwi's :oops:, taking warm up games seriously :lol: :lol: :lol: ....:) how are ya NZ boys, all well :)

Was a kickaround, interesting to note that the players' think the ball is a big issue.

It was a glorified training session, the syle of play was never going to be attacking, every person who had anything to do with the squad, was involved in the media or isn't blinjd knew that we were going to focus on our defence and couters today.

Those of you carrying as though we are an absolute shambles because of the way we played need to wake up to yourselves. Forget about hte score, there were some real positive to take out of the game, esp in defence. I was actually quite surprised with Moore as well.

You haven't watched bundesliga all season have you? This is probably Germany's strongest side in a while, with Muller and Gomez on form. Their defence looks its best in a while and no Ballack isn't really a hinderance. Their biggest problem will be dealing with Rolfes' absence and Borowski can fill that role.

He really isn't Denmark's x-factor, he's a distributor, but you've got guys like Bendtner and Kahlenberg who they turn to to really turn a game on its head.

Obviously you haven't. Podolski, Gomez and Klose have scored what not even 20 goals between them this season. Very poor form and the loss of Rolfe and Ballack will hinder them a fair bit.

Last I heard the German media were saying Gomez wasn't even going to make the final 23 weren't they?
