I think its a hard one, his goal scoring for Sunderland is great but is that enough to move ahead of Rooney and Defoe? I dont think so. He is a good player but i think there is no doubt that Defoe and Rooney will be the main men, And when things need to be changed throw on Crouch.

Easy to understand his fustration but no real suprise for me.

Well, notorganic, the WC balls have been likened to beach balls :P

Also, i'd rather see Bent in the team than Heskey, though.

The comparison shouldn't be with Bent and Heskey. It should be with Bent and Defoe.

Heskey and Crouch are the big strikers. They have their role in the team. They are not there to score bagfuls of goals, but to provide a distraction, and hold up play well, which they both do. Bent's role is not the same as those two.

The other three strikers, Rooney, Bent and Defoe are there to be the 'little' men up front. To score the goals. It does not matter that Heskey scored substantially fewer than Bent this year. Capello has decided they need a player to help link up the play, and they dont need another goalscorer. Rooney is obviously a certainty, so the choice goes down to Defoe and Bent.

Defoe probably got the nod because he plays for Tottenham, so him and Crouch have a good understanding (there are also two other Sputs players in the squad). That, and the fact Bent hasn't scored at international level.

I can understand why he is upset, he scored 24 league goals this year after all, but crying to the press wont help anything.

Exactly, no fury there, just a little (understandable) frustration.

Agree with imnofreak's comments - it was Bent vs Defoe, and even I would probably go for Defoe. Bent just didn't do enough when he got the chance.

Heskey's record as a goalscorer is shocking - but his record as a strike partner is sensational. Rooney's record is something like 8 goals in 9 games with Heskey, compared to 2 goals in 8 without him. Says it all really.

Personally, I think it's good news for my lads - Bent will be relaxed and out to prove a point next year.

Agree with this 100%. I think Heskey in particular is there not to score goals but to link the play up between midfield and forwards, he seems to get the best out of Lampard, Gerard and most importantly Rooney.

Bottom line was, while he did score 24 goals in the season, he clearly didn't cut the mustart and played bloody poorly in their warm-up games.
