Interesting seeing as they paid something like 800,000 to buy him from Perth. What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Ruka Becomes A Free Agent? DUTCH champions FC Twente have released Socceroo Nikita Rukavytsya after deciding not to exercise an option to extend his contract with the club.Have your say.

Hope that he is given some game times at the WC, as doubtful as that may seem. Wouldn't mind having him at the Victory ;) Don't think that will happen. Hopefully he can find a club soon after the WC. Need to see how much further he can develop.

far too talented to come back home. At 22 the next club will be very important for him. He showed during his loan spell he can perform in europe and should get his agent to try set up a trial with one of the first division belgium teams!

He won't come back, but hopefully if he is able to show himself in SA, some good clubs will come after him.

RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUKA!
First division belgium, Championship, French Ligue 1, Serie B... plenty of options for him. Just needs some game time and a coach who can get his technique to the next level...

I really like Ruka, but it was always going to be a matter of time before people discovered that he was just an extremely fast player who is totally dependant on his left leg. I've never seen him head the ball and defenders have realised that when he has the ball at his feet, his last move will be to put the ball on his left peg.
He was always going to get away with it in the A-League, but not at a higher level.

Doesn't really surprise me, not a bad player but 2nd division in Belgium is probably his level.

i didn't rate Ruka at all in his first season of the A-League, in fact, I held him alongside matt Simon.
Lots of speed but couldn't shoot to save his life.
Could run all day but that was about it.
people who say he is too good to come back to the A-League are morons. But Iu'd think because of his young age he will stick it out in europe for a while. if he does okay in WC who knows.
Besides, he'd not be worth the $$ we'd have to pay him to play in the A-League at the moment.

Perhaps Japan would be a good place for him to develop his skill and technical awareness...
Please not the Belgian 2nd division....or English lower leagues.
Turkey, yes...but i think he would struggle to get a start there to be honest

people like to talk down the a-league but we are still exporting players. One of the reasons the A-League is talked down is that we export so many of our good players (thus leaving us with very little quality at home) - and those departing players often fail to make a splash overseas (thus demonstrating the low quality on display here). One of the reasons the A-League was set-up was to address that very same player drain - the irony being that it's a basic reality of football that good players will migrate to bigger leagues... Thus, it's not a critisism of the A-League or the FFA, but of the notion that the drain could be stopped without massive investment. Give it a decade and maybe the likes of Ruka will be staying here until they can go overseas and command a regular place in a first team somewhere.

You would they might have held on to him till after the WC (if possible) just in the hope that he might score a few goals (let's be honest, we haven't got much strikers) and then they could cash in.
No?
Anyway, his agent must be licking his lips and telling Ruka every goal is worth $1 million to him.

He is like Archie fast but cannot shot for the life of him. I think he needs to stay in europe and get game time.

I agree and let’s face it there are better players in the A-league than Ruka. Brosque and Archie Thompson both played in the same league as him and were good enough. Scoring goals in Belgium is not a real indicator of being a great player. I reckon a few A-league players could do the exact same.

The problem with the A-League is the retirees that keep getting brought back from lowly clubs in Europe and the not good enough for Europe South Americans. Plus we've have too many older players that have played most of their career as semi pro players. The most ridiculous thing I've seen in the A-League was when Melbourne brought in Nick Mrdja WHEN Thompson was injured. It goes to show that Merrick has no intention of developing the game here. It's also funny that that was allowed! We have too many old slow has beens and until we start get more young 17 to 20 year olds on the pitch we are never going to see the quality and pace of the game pick up. The FFA need to put systems in place that require more young players getting real game time.
I saw an interview with Han Berger talking about how the A-League coaches wont play the young players, and that's why the young Socceroos get owned everywhere they go. I've watched youth games at my local club and they're more exciting than A-League games I've been to.

Yeah, because it was really an option to go out and get a proven international striker outside of the transfer window  How does a 5 game guest stint equate to having "no intention of developing the game here"?

I think he just means that instead Merrick promoting one of his youth strikers and got a loan move for Mrdja. Give the youth player a few games, more experience for next season there was more chance that promoting a youth player would have better longer term benefits for Victory and Australia.
