He would definitely add something to our team. Get fit, mate.

What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Harry Plays Down Injury Fears?
HARRY Kewell has spoken out about his fitness, insisting he is “fine” and on track to play in the Socceroos’ opening World Cup game against Germany.

Have your say.

I think Kewell would be best served as a substitute in the first game, that way we've got something extra in the tank against Germany should we need it. I don't know if he's ready to play a full 90 yet and he's not the kind of player you ever want to have to sub off.

Hmmmm. I think it makes sense to use him as a sub. But that being said Kennedy was a bit lacking vs USA. Pim has an unenviable task ahead of him.

Some people are relying way too much on Harry. He maybe fit but he hasn't played in ages, you dont regain your skill with a few training sessions. The fact that Pim didnt risk him shows just how much we could be reliant on him which is surely alarming.

gk99 - you're a moron.

You don't LOSE skill by being out for a few months - you lose conditioning.

And had Pim played him against the US you'd be bitching about that - calm the f*ck down.

He'll be ready.

Fingers crossed. Harry Kewell is Australia's greatest player of all time thus far and he would significantly boost the team, whether carrying injury or not.

I took Harry's word for it when he kept playing down his groin injury in the media, insisting he was okay, though now I'm starting to have my doubts whether he's telling the truth. Which is surprising, as I always saw Harry as a really honest fella with heaps of integrity.

Does anyone know the result of the practice match held after the USA friendly? If we scored, who did it etc?

I'm definitely ready to start: Kewell
June 7, 2010 - 1:40PM

Star attacker Harry Kewell has slammed suggestions his long-standing groin problem and lack of match fitness will make him a liability in the Socceroos' opening match against Germany in Durban on Sunday (Monday AEST).

The 31-year-old says despite playing less than five minutes of football since January, he will be ready to start against the Germans if coach Pim Verbeek gives him the nod.

"I'm definitely ready to start," Kewell said.

"I know everyone's speculating about this, that and the other, but it's the manager's choice.

"You work with this medical system and these medical staff, they're fantastic. They know what they're doing.

"Everybody thinks you come to this thing (the World Cup) and then that's when they start working.

"But they knew about my injury 14 or 15 weeks ago. We were working then, when everyone was asleep, when everyone was awake.

"All these questions of me not being fit are just people commenting on things they don't know of."

Kewell has had team physiotherapists Les Gelis and Phil Coles as his constant companions.

Both have shadowed him throughout lonely running and light ballwork sessions away from teammates for the majority of Australia's pre-World Cup training camps in Melbourne and South Africa.

Their healing hands readied Kewell for a return to full training last Thursday, though he has had just two sessions with the rest of the Socceroos.

While Verbeek named him as a substitute for the 3-1 defeat by the United States in Roodepoort, the Dutchman resisted tempting fate.

Instead Kewell's day of reckoning should come on Sunday against a German side he believes will provide a searching test of the Socceroos' fighting qualities.

"We all know throughout the qualification they (Germany) can not be a great team, but as soon as they head into a competition mode, they step up four or five gears," Kewell said.

"They become this team that no one can seem to beat. But we're going to be up for it.

"We're at a World Cup and we're expected to play the best teams, and Germany are one of them."

I'm not doubting the medical staff. We're a country with a huge sporting industry and do a remarkable job of getting sports people fit. What's more worrying to me is his touch, how he integrates with the others on the field, and so on.
