Brick is one of my favourite films... anything that makes good reference to Raymond Chandler is good nuff for me

Shame there's hardly any good research pages on the internet for it. On first watching, its kinda hard to find everything i need in my assessment. And I don't have time to re-watch.

what do you need to know?

Recommend his followup film The Brothers Bloom... probably not in the same class as Brick but good all the same, nowhere near as dark but still playing with film noir and other film trends and genres, seems like he had fun making it

Pirates 4 is a solid 5/10. Not that great but about as good as Pirates 3 IMO

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

I'd place it 4th out of the 4 films. Was okay, but not nearly as much fun as the others.

Not sure what was wrong, but here's a few thoughts (no spoilers)

- Depp was the star, whereas previously Bloom and Knightly carried the films and he just stole the scenes.
- Cruz doesn't have the personality of Knightly.
- the bloke who's name didn't even register didn't have the charisma of Bloom (which is scary, 'cos Bloom ain't the most charismatic actor in the world)
- not enough 'comic relief' - Depp was more a leading man (as mentioned above), the little and large Pintel and Ragetti partnership is gone, replaced by a single unfunny character
- the 3D process makes everything too dark
- Gore Verbinski 'gets' pirates more than Rob Marshall
- it's more an adventure film than a pirate film
- Ian McShane doesn't go nearly far enough over the top in his performance. Should have been Brian Blessed!!

The ending was way too abrupt, and Blackbeard was nowhere near as good as Davy Jones

Saw the Hangover Part II. I thought some parts were pretty funny, but overall kind of meh. I haven't seen the first one, so I can't really compare, but apparently it was too similar.

Hangover sequel sets new US box office record

From correspondents in Los Angeles From: NewsCore May 28, 2011

THE Hangover Part II set a sobering new box office record in its first day open.

Early receipts leaked to Deadline today showed that the movie took in $31.6 million in the US Thursday - the most ever for an R-rated comedy.

The previous R-rated comedy record holder was Sex And The City, which opened on a Friday in 2008 with $26.7 million.

If the Hangover pace holds, the movie starring Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis will earn up to $85 million over the three-day weekend, and a whopping $125 million over the five-day Memorial Day holiday, including Thursday.

"It doesn't get much better than this," an executive at producer Warner Bros. told Deadline.

The record-breaking haul came despite generally negative reviews from critics, who were far more enthusiastic about the 2009 original. The sequel earned a 33 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, compared to 79 percent for the first.

"I have the sad duty to report I found this more elaborate, play-it-safe sequel far less fresh or funny," reviewer Lou Lumenick wrote in The New York Post.

Also opening this weekend is the animated, PG-rated Kung Fu Panda 2.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's best movies

Christy Lemire
May 27, 2011

Granted, not a great actor, but still. He starred in a lot of movies.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was once known as an actor. Granted, not a great actor, but still. He starred in a lot of movies.

Schwarzenegger is infamous these days for his off-camera antics. Revelations that the former California governor's 25-year marriage to Maria Shriver is ending and that he fathered a son with a member of his housekeeping staff have put him in the spotlight in a way even he probably never wanted.

We're going to go back to a simpler, happier time and reflect on Schwarzenegger's five best films. And there actually are five:

True Lies (1994)

Schwarzenegger has always injected an element of humour into his action movies, a tongue-in-cheek recognition of his own outsized ridiculousness, for better and for worse. His puns, for example, can be painful. But this is the best example of his ability to blend laughs and gunfire, sight gags and explosions. Teaming up once again with Terminator director James Cameron in this remake of a French comedy, Schwarzenegger stars as a spy posing as a mild-mannered computer salesman. When he suspects his wife (a funny and sexy Jamie Lee Curtis) is having an affair, he uses all the gadgets and weapons at his disposal to win her back. A screwball blockbuster.

The Terminator (1984)

One of the definitive '80s action flicks and the movie that truly made Schwarzenegger a superstar. It features one of his classic and most-quoted lines - "I'll be back" - and allowed us all to put the suffix "-ator" at the end of any word to describe him in a corny way. Cameron also put himself on the map, as director and co-writer, with this sci-fi fable about an unstoppable cyborg sent back from the future to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) before she can give birth to ... well, you know what the Terminator series is about. Clever, intense and mind-bendy, filled with a dark mythology of biblical proportions and the kind of elaborate action sequences that would become one of Cameron's trademarks.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)

A rare sequel that is as good as the original, if not better (are you listening, makers of the Hangover movies?). T2 was super high-tech in its day, with seamless visual effects that allowed Robert Patrick's character, the even deadlier Terminator known as the T-1000, to shape-shift and heal itself instantly. Schwarzenegger is back as the original Terminator, who must now protect Sarah Connor's son. Of course, T2 features yet another of his classic lines - "Hasta la vista, baby" - which he would use to cringe-inducing effect in various real-world circumstances.

Total Recall (1990)

Inspired by a Philip K Dick short story and directed by Paul Verhoeven, this is a brisk, paranoid, violent and darkly funny adventure. Schwarzenegger stars as Doug Quaid, a construction worker living in the future who discovers that his entire existence has been a fabrication. His real identity (which has something to do with Mars) has been erased, but virtual reality trips help him unlock his own mysteries. This vision of an efficient future is meant to be startling in its soullessness, but Total Recall also features plenty of sleaze; this is, after all, from the man who would go on to direct Basic Instinct. Speaking of which, a young and extremely cute Sharon Stone co-stars as Schwarzenegger's wife.

Predator (1987)

OK, I will admit that I am choosing this one in part because my husband loves it, and he has an uncanny knack for finding it on TV at any time of the day or night. (I also enjoy hearing him yell, "Get to the chopper!" in his bad Arnold accent.) An early film from action veteran John McTiernan, this sci-fi thriller is about a group of commandos who are trapped in a Central American jungle and hunted by an extraterrestrial monster. Schwarzenegger, as a special forces bad-ass named Dutch, is sent in to save them but he also must fight this creature with deadly camouflage abilities. If anyone could do it, it was Arnold at the height of his powers.

Basically the same just a few parts are more crude kind of humour but thats about it really. It's being panned because it's basically the same as the first one. What I wanna know is what the fuck were people expecting, they've stuck with the same formula that made the first one so successful and so far it's worked. It's not like they have a lot of room to work with in terms of the plot and storyline tbph.

I haven't seen it but the criticism i have seen is that they've just tried to replicate characters and scenairo's

i think you can have the same/similar context, but have a very different way of going about it from the original + it was probably rushed so the script probably isn't as good as it could be and the studios have just hurried it all up to bank on the past success

Iv'e also heard 'Welcome to Sarajevo', done by the same guy who did The Killer inside of me, is good. Anybody seen that, reviews?
