At least in the movie Equilibrium, repeated clumsy attempts at 'dark humour' weren't made...

Hall Pass wasn't as bad as people have set out. Some genuine funny moments, but maybe that's just me being able to relate more to the topics explored as I get older and more suburban.
Limitless was a bit meh. Interesting premise, no matter how bunk the science behind it might be... But just felt rather disconnected and pointless in the end.

The best Euro film remake was Insomnia with Robin Williams.

Thought it was good. Cooper and Cornish were pretty strong leads. Having said that, the end scene in his apartment was awful. Very unbelievable.

X Men First Class is pretty good. Had a few corny lines and moments but Michael Fassbender as Magneto made that movie good
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

For European re-makes, Brothers was up there. It looks pretty fucking good. But then that could just be because I'm a Reznor fanboy. There's definitely potential there. Looks amazing, no doubt... but the bar was set VERY high with the original movie. the original was top class... but the following movies didn't stay at that standard which was a pity, so the original is somewhat tarnished i.e Matrix Trilogy.... whereas the US version could provide 3 movies of the same quality Quote:The best Euro film remake was Insomnia with Robin Williams. tbh didn't think too much of it, is probably the weakest Nolan film + robin williams doing serious does nothing for me

Watched Source Code last night. Ending was a bit to Hollywood happy for my liking but enjoyable regardless.

Have you liked any of his other movies apart from Sixth Sense?

I get the impression that (& there are plenty of other examples to Matrix & Sixth Sense) that when a good movie is released people are damned because it's very difficult to live up to or release a movie of the initial quality again. Subsequent movies cannot be appreciated in isolation. It happens repeatedly to Shamalayan. How were the Waichowski brothers supposed to outdo Matrix?

M. Night Shymalan is a hack. So predictable, all his movies have similar structure and aesthetic. Didn't really like the Sixth Sense, and all his other films I've seen are equally trite and shit.
The Matrix was a stupendous cinematic achievement. Brilliant. Both of the sequels were cash-in throw-aways trying to squeeze every last buck out of the original's concept, and were just so contrived and awful it's barely believable they're done by the same people.

Coppola did it with the Godfather Part II... so it can be done to make a follow up as good or potentially better than their original 'standout' work... to look at a film in isolation such as the Matrix is a pleasure, because we all know it's visionary brilliance from the concept to the production of the film.... but in the case of Shamalayan, the fact is even those films in isolation that he has made post say, Unbreakable have been monumental flops, been panned by critics, and have been in most cases just plain shit e.g Signs

And like Twilight Zone there is a mix of excellent, shite and plain strange.

But you know, if you think the Saw movies and the Sixth Sense are 'groundbreaking' or even 'good', then your opinion on films probably doesn't count for much.
And judging by your signature remaining the same, your opinion on football doesn't count for much either...

Personally, I reckon his best was The Village, because it had more than just a twist at the end. But because everything gets held up against Sixth Sense the guy can't win, including Unbreakable. The point is if Sixth Sense was never released, would Unbreakable, The Village, Devil, etc been well regarded? If Matrix had never been released would Reloaded & Revolutions gotten a better reaction (if you get what I mean)?

Quote:M. Night Shymalan is a hack. So predictable, all his movies have similar structure and aesthetic. Didn't really like the Sixth Sense, and all his other films I've seen are equally trite and shit. This is exemplified by the plot 'twist' in Signs...worst idea EVER. I mean, what the fuck? The Village wasn't bad, but wasn't as scary as it tried to be. It was probably his last good film. Quote:If Matrix had never been released would Reloaded & Revolutions gotten a better reaction (if you get what I mean)? Pointless question, if The Matrix was never released then Reloaded and Revolutions wouldn't have made sense or even existed.
