The Dark Knight Rises News

Nolan explains why Bane's a formidable opponent for Batman.

The Dark Knight Rises will take place quite a while after the events of The Dark Knight. How long? 8 years.

Director Christopher Nolan has spoken to Empire, saying "surprisingly for some people, our story picks up quite a bit later, eight years after The Dark Knight. So he's an older Bruce Wayne; he's not in a great state."

The director also spoke about the choice of Bane as the villain. "With Bane, we're looking to give Batman a challenge he hasn't had before. With our choice of villain and with our choice of story we're testing Batman both physically as well as mentally."

Nolan also discussed the villain's fighting style of the physically imposing antagonist. "He's brutal. Brutal. He's a big dude who's incredibly clinical, in the fact that he has a result-based and oriented fighting style. It's not about fighting. It's about carnage. The style is heavy-handed, heavy-footed, it's nasty. Anything from small-joint manipulation to crushing skulls, crushing rib cages, stamping on shins and knees and necks and collarbones and snapping heads off and tearing his fists through chests, ripping out spinal columns. He is a terrorist in mentality as well as brutal action."

Empire also spoke to the film's costume designer Lindy Hemming, who revealed the reason for Bane's mask. "He was injured early in his story. he's suffering from pain and needs gas to survive. He can't survive the pain without the mask. The pipes from the mask go back along his jawline and feed into the thing at his back, where there are two cannisters."

8 years later? Let the frenzied speculation begin in the comments below.

He breaks Batman's back in the comics... I wonder if he will do the same in the movie.

Bane was ridiculous in the dreadful 'Batman and Robin'. Nothing like he was supposed to be

8 years...Jesus. That's a while. Still, realy pumped for it. The Dark Knight was amazing and the addition of Bane, being played by Tom Hardy, should be awesome.

So with the whole Dark night rises story arc, it appears to me that after the results of The Dark Knight, Bruce puts the bat mask and cape in to cold storage and stops training and focuses on being Bruce Wayne for 8 year's (wife, kid's, expanded wayne enterprises to start encrouching on Metropolis).

Some big bad goes down and the Sociopath Bane starts taking apart Goatham. Wayne reluctantly "rises" again to fight the forces of evil only with the added issue of having the entire Goatham Police force after him for the death of District attorney Harvey Dent (who should have survived and been an awesome twoface Momento style).

Newer toys and boardering on crazy technology to add to the spectacular. bane gaining the upper hand for the main 2/3 of the film before Wayne figures out that by removing his access to the "Venom" gas (if that's what they're going to still use) he can defeat Bane. A quick clearing of Batmans name and credits roles.

Thus closing the door on the Dark knight franchise ready for a reboot in 5 years time with????............................................................................. Frankie Muniz as Bruce wayne

Batman will die in the end. Joseph Gordon Levitt is also in it, rumoured to be Falcone's son, Calendar Man or the Joker

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

You can't have the protagonist die in modern Hollywood blockbusters. The audience doesn't like it and screen tests will eat it alive.

There won't be any more Nolan Batman movies after this, and I can't really see him ending it with a cliche or a happy resolution. Liam Neeson is also in it, dunno if it's just for flashbacks, or if Ra's al Ghul somehow lived

Nolan has already said it would be a bit of an insult to Ledger if they had the Joker in the film, so I think we can rule out that. I've heard JG-L is playing a cop of some sort.

As Marconi said, this will be the last Nolan Batman film. The guy knows when to stop making movies.

Wikipedia tells me Neeson is in it for flashbacks. I don't think he would have survived. Doesn't sound like a Nolan thing to do, bringing him back from the dead.

I don't think Batman will die, but I also don't believe it will be a happy ending.

You can if there's some sort of moral victory or vindication.

From what I've read on other fan sites, forums and sci fi blogs, Bane is to be connected to Ra al Ghul as a former student tuerned master destroyer in the vaine of what RAG had planned for Wayne in the original film.

I doubt he is to be an Anti Hero though, I'm yet to see an Anti hero who takes pleasure in systematically crushing people. But who Knows. We'll have to wait until next year for the answers.

Will be interesting to see how Catwoman fits in this, personally I hope she's not in it much as I hate the character and Anne Hathaway sucks

i think it'll be a beat on each other then team up moment. actually probably not the best thing for this franchise but Hathaway shits all over halli berry's Catwoman.

that film was so bad I was told not to see it before it was even released.

From Wiki

Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, "a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon

Gordon building his team of uncorruptables I'd say.

IIRC John Blake was the guy who betrays Gordon?

Hardy's significantly bigger in the muscle suit in the first image than in the second one.

For those into the thriller/horror genre, a good scare of a movie is Grave Encounters.
First movie since I was about 5 years old that has shaken me up.

On the topic, am looking forward to 'Rec 3', I found the first 2 movies decent. Highly recommended viewing
