Hope I'm wrong - but looks like a lot of effects for the sake of effects to me. Nothing wrong with heavy effects movies when they have a script (The Matrix), but when it's scriptless (Transformers 2 etc) it just becomes tiresome.

It just looks like another Transformers movie without all the pretty colours.

finally got to see it yesterday. absolutely loved it.

[spoiler]did it seem like to anyone else they were really trying to force the hint that judy dench was bond's birth-mother, though? the mrs & i were picking up that vibe the entire time, and i wouldn't be surprised when the next one comes out if they don't reveal that or something. can totally see bond sitting at a desk, looking for inspiration on a case he has no leads on & needs her help, picks up the UK bulldog ornament, smashes it & finds a picture of a younger M with newborn bond.[/spoiler]

i agree, i really don't want to see it happen. i just can see them heading down that direction.

[spoiler]there were a few hints here & there that led to us thinking it, but possibly the biggest one was when they rolled up to the chapel & silver saw bond's parents gravestone, bond's mothers name was monique (or similar) and my mrs said "it's M!" and silver let out this grin like he had just figured it all out. then didn't she die on a note like she was going to reveal some big secret to him or something?[/spoiler]

[spoiler]and note, i understand that there were a few M's before her, who were male, and she was succeeded by someone who became M also. i hope it doesn't happen, and there's enough there to wipe the hypothesis clear away, but i just thought they were edging well towards that for a large part of the movie

also the whole "give me details of your childhood" being replied with "you know all those details already" made us think it a little bit more, even taking into account that it'd be her job to know those details of any agent, son or not.

plus, in either quantam or casino, didn't bond hint towards M standing for something, rather than being a randomly assigned letter?[/spoiler]

Yeah, I get what you mean. I have a feeling/hope it's just going to be the expendables meets robots and aliens, because that would be perfect.

Caught 'Heat' again last night, forgot how much I love that film, De Niro and Pacino two legends of cinema in their prime sharing the screen is just phenomenal. The coffee shop scene when they finally come face to face is brilliant, it's just such an intense and well directed film. Christopher Nolan has said that the opening robbery seen in TDK is his tribute to Michael Mann's work as Mann was his idol.

Of to see an advanced screening of Wreck it Ralph this weekend.

I saw Wreck it Ralph at Event (3D for $12 a ticket a couple of weeks before it is suppose to come out, not bad). So many little references at the start to 80s video games at the first half or so. Good movie. Little short before the movie was well done. Very pixar ish story but disney in look.

Rise was good but Wreck it was better. (maybe because one of my kids mucked up more for rise) Don't know if hobbit will be anything on the lord of the rings but it is still a must see.

have been meaning to for years, but i finally got around to watching the breakfast club for the first time last night. i can't see emilio estevez without thinking in my head "quack, quack, quack"

next on the list is in the loop which a guy at my work says is probably his all-time favourite movie. keen for it!

a mate of mine in the uk saw the hobbit the other day - he said while there are some fantastic bits he reckons they're trying a bit too hard to stretch for material by splitting it into parts, and sometimes there's too much detail gone into particular scenes. he loved it, but he built it up in his head to be lord of the rings & it undermet his expectations.

Can't wait to see The Hobbit, not quite sure what to expect from it though.

Yeah, Pete jackson wanted to include everything from everywhere in to the movie. He didnt want to make just one movie which was a compressed (adapted) version of the book, but rather wanted to give the fans the whole thing as it was in the book, hence it being cut up in to three parts.

On my list are The Hobbit (already have tickets), Gangster Squad and Django Unchained and possibly Wreck it Ralph and Rise of the Guardians.

Apparently he took stuff from other places to put in it too, so it's not just purely from the book.

Yeah he included stuff from Tolkiens like preface to it and the thoughts behind the book and stuff.

Yeah I'm really keen to see Gangster Squad, think it has a lot of potential going by the cast.
I'm interested in Django although I'm not really a big fan of QT's more recent work although Inglorious Basterds had it's moments, hopefully Django doesn't disappoint though as I'm liking the concept.

Yeah, I don't really like Inglorious Basterds. Will Smith was offered the lad in DU, he had to turn it down but he said it was the best screenplay he'd ever read.

Django's been getting mad reviews.

Very keen to see it.

Fuck Pitch Perfect was pretty alright :lol:

The Aussie humour completed that movie so well.
