Watched 'A Clockwork Orange' the other night purely because of the FFT poster clockworkorange
Really enjoyed it. Reminds me of the movies you have to study and break down during your HSC with the amount of hidden meanings etc.

I didn't have much hope when I saw the trailer, but was pleasantly surprised (I had the exact same experience with Guardians of the Galaxy). The whole America-Japan thing weirded me out a bit, but once I got over that it was a fun movie that pulled the heart-strings once or twice  I definitely am a sucker for a good kids movie though.

You guys should watch all of Kubrick's movies. They are truly astounding.

'A Clockwork Orange' has made me want to! Will be checking out 2001: A Space Odyssey next. Love movies that force you to think about hidden meanings.

I haven't yet but promised the wife I will go with her, probably next week. I don't fully understand the hatred of the books by guys tbh - if anything I got more "play" than usual when she read the books, it was great! I don't hate the books for the content - I hate them for the shit standard of writing. I haven't read them tbh so can't comment on that. What I will say though is that in general I think people reading books is a good thing. And I know a hell of a lot of women who would never read, who can basically recite the books backwards to you - some of which realised how much they enjoyed reading and continued to do so for varying genres. So there's that, at least.

Thoroughly recommend watching Rob Ager's breakdowns of Kubrick's films AFTER you have watched them. Kubrick was mentally unbalanced but on another plane of thought when it came to the things he did in his films.

Really looking forward to Jurassic world. looks mental with modified dino's and all.
Jupiter Ascending looks interesting if only because of the Matrix team has created it, but nervous to see it and waste money on a VFX bomb.

I remember the first time I saw it with friends when I was still in High school. the ending was one of the most jaw dropping scenes in movie history, it still holds up today.

Watched Whiplash last night and mother of god that movie is great. Give JK Simmons all of the awards right now. My love for anything with Miles Teller in it has also quadrupled now.

Saw Godzilla the other night. Wasn't as impressed as I thought it was going to be. That said, still enjoyable. Didn't realize Brian Cranston's role was going to be so short. I thought he was going to be in the whole movie. Also saw The Host. Weird movie. Made very little sense. Ending also seemed rushed. Watched Hotel Rwanda a couple nights ago too. Excellent movie. Whilst I've studied the Rwandan Civil War, and the genocide I still don't understand how the United Nations bother with a peacekeeping force when they can't do jack shit to protect innocent civilians. The role played in the movie by the UN General doesn't quite sum up how tied the UN Peacekeeping soldiers hands were. I don't think the rules of engagement have changed much in the 20 years following in regards to 'peacekeeping missions'. You can litterally only return fire when you or your men come under direct, accurate fire, and you're in actual danger. Even then, you're meant to fire 'warning shots'. That out the way, sill found it a good movie. It must have been extremely difficult for Paul to be able to bribe his way through that. We look on corruption in the western world as a terrible thing - which it is - but in a situation like that it really is life and death. Apparently he and his family now are living in Belgium.

So there's that, at least. I watched 50 shades of Grey yesterday. I fail to see how the chick in that above link claims it's the worst movie she's ever seen. It was alright. She has done that mini-rant solely to get public attention. I haven't read it but the mrs has read it, and talked about it, enough for me to have gone in with a pretty decent understanding of it all. The guy who played Mr Grey was not what I pictured at all, and I didn't think he was too great. But the other actors in the movie I thought were good. Overall, not that bad.

The fact that they're going to make 3 movies out of that tripe is depressing.

More importantly, did viewing said movie result in increased bedroom action? I have absolutely no interest in seeing that movie otherwise.

She was incredibly frisky basically every time she read the books, but she said to me after watching the movie that she'd read heaps of times about the dominant/submissive, punishment, etc that the book portrayed but seeing it on the screen really showed how brutal it was, and that she had built it up in her mind to be not as harsh to watch. So if anything, she got turned off a little bit. I will say though, we had some action in the morning prior to watching it (unrelated  ) and judging by that, plus the renovating I had to do in the afternoon/night - I was never getting anything that night anyway

Which I loved, but doesn't even scrape the surface of how good Lego Movie is IMO.
