Holy wow, how did it not make it in there? Out of all the animated movies in the nominated list, I've honestly only seen Big Hero 6. Which I loved, but doesn't even scrape the surface of how good Lego Movie is IMO. On a side note, just read that the "The Shining" did not receive a single nomination either and was in fact up for a "Razzie." The Shining is one of the most brilliantly directed movies ever. There was a lot of cocaine doing the rounds in Hollywood back in the 80s

Box trolls is definitely worth watching as well.

Out of those nominated, I've only seen American Sniper, Birdman & Grand Budapest Hotel, and Grand Budapest absolutely slays the other two for me. I loved them all, but Wes Anderson films just hit me harder than most others.

Most Americans walk away thinking that, but I felt the exact opposite. I would be disappointed if it won purely because I feel it could have been executed much better, especially the ending. On the other end of that Bradley Cooper is phenomenal in it

Think Birdman will get Best Picture, Linklater will get Director, Keaton Best Actor(or at least I fucking hope so) and Julianne Moore probably will get Best Actress

Genuinely surprised Inarritu got Best Director, thought Linklater had it in the bag.
There was something great about Batman presenting an award to Birdman starring Batman

Watched Nightcrawler last night and not quite sure how Jake Gyllenhaal didn't get a best actor nomination.

Agreed, saw it last night. i haven't seen all of the nominee's movies though so hard to judge but he plays a convincing psychopath.

I watched it months ago and I still get a creepy feeling thinking about his performance. It makes me realise that I probably haven't ever met a legitimate psychopath or sociopath in my life.

You probably have, they constitute about 1% of the population. If you only met them fleetingly, you might think they were just a nice guy. But its only when you see the whole package.

True, I have seen many a charm offensive turn sour when it became apparent that it's not something that I fall for.

Can already see the third one coming out that I assume will be entirely based on finding Toothless a "friend".

Is that actually a thing? That people still watch and enjoy kids movies?

Eastern Glory wrote:Is that actually a thing? That people still watch and enjoy kids movies? I've got no shame in admitting I love kids movies. Particularly the ones that have heaps of references that would just fly over the kids heads. Over the last fortnight I've watched, and loved, How To Train Your Dragon 2 and Big Hero 6 (even admitting I thought Big Hero 6's trailer looked awful). The Lego Movie for eg, I think is technically a kids movie, but is one of the best movies of last year IMO. I think I've posted before that I was midway through reading George Orwell's 1984 when I watched it, and just lost my shit at how it was based off it.

I took my daughter out last night while the wife was catching up with friends, there were literally no movies appropriate for her on at Hoyts. We ended up having dinner and then coming home to watch Guardians of the Galaxy again.
I've already been roped into taking her to see Robb Starks Cinderella in a few weeks though :(
