Vinnies comment is fair enough. It is a game after all. Pim was shown up but to be completely honest I still maintain the blame rests mainly on the players shoulders. As unpopular as that will be and especially unpopular on this website I can't beleive anyone thinks that the team had a good game. They were found lacking all over by the germans.

What do you think about the FourFourTwo blog Die Another Day?
The gob-smacked look on Arnie's face as the ref flashed the red card at Timmy said it all.

Whatever we think about Pim's strange tactical approach to attack, it was our sluggish defence that lets us down in the end. Did we really think we could win ? Maybe, probably not, but we let through 4 goals and responded to each with a Homer Simpson-like dooh (translation 'call for off side').

Its enough to make you cry. So maybe I'm not as much of a man as Vinnie.

Cahill went in with both feet off the ground. If you do that there is always a chance of a red card.

Great blog Julia. How I would love to see you over in South Africa coaching the Socceroos - you have a love of the game and a passion that (at the moment) I don't think our coach or some of the players have at all. Your comment about lack of youth has put in writing what most football supporters are feeling at the moment and as for Vince Grella's comments, I couldn't agree with you more, yes it is only a game but try to tell that to the kids running around the park during winter with hearts like Phar Lap who one day want to be a Socceroo. The Aussie supporters deserve a lot better.

the aussie defense is too slow for a world cup. Why bresciano did not play?

Grella's comment is not fair enough Tommycash. He is a highly paid professional representing his country at the world cup. He put in a very substandard personal performance and his petulant attitude didn't demonstrate any acknowledgement of his role in a colossal failure that has shocked the entire country.

Julia - excellent article. I really enjoyed it and it summed up my early morning, sleep deprived, and disbelieving reactions perfectly.
