I don't recall you being diagnosed with a terminal illness, wtf could be worse?

What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Verbeek: I've Had Worse Weeks?
PIM Verbeek insists he has had more difficult weeks with Australia during his two-and-a-half years in charge and is confident of a strong reaction from his players when they come up against Ghana in vital World Cup encounter tomorrow.

Have your say.

I'm back on th ePimwagen. One last chance. After all the upsets of th elast week I am once again willing to give Pim the temporary benefit of the doubt. If he starts Jesus, Chippo, H-o, Emmo-o, Valerio, Culinao, any left back with speed-o (I'm looking at you Davo), Beauchampo, and Wilko I will forgive all. Otherwise, go to hell. O.

Jesuscic, Chippocic, Harrycic, Emmocic, Valericic, Culinacic, Carnecic, Beauchampocic and Wilkocic might be a better selection against the free flowing Ghanaians.

When have you had worst weeks? in a competitive fixture you have not played and beaten one team Worth mentioning. Friendlies dont count and Japan are nothing special, how could you of had worst weeks!

Shit coach if we draw/lose we are out of the WC but we lose much more then that.

If Australia register a win tonight the nation will follow the socceroos to what ever end.

If Socceroos lose they will lose much more then a game and there chance at the second round. This could be the death of professional football, just as 06' sprang football to life 10' could be the death of football.

I pray the Socceroos will win tonight but we simply dont have good players. Sure we have spirit and heart but we are out classed look at it realisticly.

Germany smashed us, Serbia beat Germany, Ghana beat Serbia.

My friends if tonight is the death of football i hope we go down fighting.

And it has been a honor!

I think Pim viewed his job as being done once we qualified. If Australia did well at the finals that was gravy but I don't think Pim really thinks finals performances are important because he never believed we could take home the cup.

I don't bother listening to any analysis or opinions about Australian Football, unless the analyst is a football person, who has played the game to a reasonable level.

I have no problem with any journalist reporting the FACTS about any topic.

You don't need to an expert or experienced in a particular field to report FACTS.

However, if someone is going to analyse the performance of a person's technical abilities - be it surgical ability, engineering ability, car mechanic ability, cooking ability, etc - then, unless that person has also attained a reasonable level of skill in that particular field, his/her opinion is as important as my opinion or anyone else's on this forum - i.e. ZERO importance.

Only a surgeon can provide informed opinion on the surgical proficiency of another surgeon; only a car mechanic can provide informed opinion about the skills of another car mechanic; and, only a professional footballer can offer informed opinion about the technical proficiency of a professional footballer.

It's about time sports journalists started reporting the FACTS, and leaving op-ed pieces to those who are qualified to give op-ed pieces.

So, I was thrilled to see Harry have a go at a guy like Mike Cockerill, who has done nothing on the football field, but thinks he's qualified to give opinions about footballers.

Report the facts, Mike - that's your job. Leave the analysis to those, who've played the game to a decent level.

If anything - Cockerill's article (whilst despicable IMO) may be just the kind of fuel Kewell needs for this match. For Kewell putting a stellar performance into tonights game will squash Cockerill's credibility and show him up for a football fraud.

Cockerill has made himself look like the biggest douche in world media this World Cup.

Cockerill has tried to paint himself as part of the story and couldn't care if he destabilizes the Socceroos, which is unforgivable for a journalist who makes his living from the game. He's even got the gall to believe that he's motivating Harry Kewell to prove him wrong.

What a joke of a bloke.

Well you've proven yourself a genius haven't you?

The question should be 'what sort of coach doesn't encourage a team to believe that they can step up and do well?'

Self-belief and motivation are very important to any elite team performance. From the comments Pim and Neill made before the Germany game it was clear that at least the self-belief element was missing.

Regardless of your teams relative strengths and weaknesses you have to set out to win or you will walke away with nothing.

Cockerill lost all credibility after backing Arnold pre-Olympics and not taking him to task afterwards. He's pro Australian coaching, as am I in principle - but at times we need to be pragmatic in our assessments.

And he really didn't need to stir the pot after the bid book went in. If we win the bid in December this year there will be plenty of work to do right around Australia. Leaving the stirring on the forums, and like in the case of Kewell, play the game not the man.

Why are you guys not more concerned that Harry Kewell is busy reading his own press and complaining that someone might actually not like his lack of performance instead of getting on with his job?

Regardless of what Cockerill wrote (most of which I agree with) or any other journalist or blogger or troll on a forum for that matter, Kewell's one and only job is to play football. He has barely pulled a boot on this year. Hence he is not living up to the hype, hence it is Harry-has-been. Only he can prove otherwise, and I hope he is able to.

Just as Grella should not have been so uninterested in being part of the team that he was busy having a shower instead of trying to support the rest of his teammates in the remainder of the Germany game, Kewell should not be focussing on what everyone says about him and just get on with it.
