I only saw this for the first time during the SBS replay in the middle of the night this morning...the killer bit is afterwards when Arnie then notices the camera has caught the whole thing and you can actually see a little bit of him dying.

OMG Now I see - He went for a Hi-5 but totally snubbed! Damn, will be refreshing once Arnie has left the set up. Though tbh I hope Aurelio doesn't just come in to replace him in that role - He already has the Olyroos gig, but hopefully that's only temporary and post 2014 he gets back into club football to build up that experience - If not earlier even.

Maybe the younger Paul Okon could come in for Arnie's role? Actually...maybe one of the upcoming recent Socceroo retirees?

I actually find it problematic that some of the brightest of our younger coaching brigade are joining the NT set up, as I'm not sure that is such a forwards move, considering the best thing they could do, after some A-League success/experience, is to further that with more club coaching experience, preferably overseas.

Arnie's role was of a 'LONG TERM' apprentice, who scouted for the NT coach, met with overseas based players etc... he was kind of the 'Australian' Henk Duut, except Arnie got to coach the Olyroos too, after TD Baan did all the hard work.

I believe a 30 something year old recent Socceroo retiree should be entering into that role and only someone who is prepared to commit to that sort of career, and not some on like Aurelio Vidmar, who's future, career path, is that of being a senior coach/manager. Joining the NT set up is kind of like starting again. Actually I reckon Alex Tobin might even be worth considering, considering his career path seems to be heading towards youth development with the Mariners - He's been an assistant to Lawrie McKinna for quite a while and now he will be to Arnie. Actually I'd love to see the former long time Socceroos captain involved in the NT set up - He was always like the model gentleman kind of player on the field, not really one to pick up a heap of cards or anything and one of the last few Socceroos who's career was based only ever in the NSL, in that late 90s period where the NT squad was already, almost entirely overseas based (Just as we've seen ever since). He's always seemed kind of smart/nerdy like, like someone who'd be an astute observer, student of the game - he'd sure be greater as a NT assistant. He's young enough, but not too young, so has more of a clearer separation from the current older player group (Having retired late 90s), then an Okon or even Aurelio would have. Alex Tobin and the NT set up seem a perfect match in a way?

And though Arnie's case was unique, given the breadth of eras, and massive change, his stint covered, you can still see/wonder just HOW MUCH Arnie learned/progress from all that experience, especially those first six years under Farina in the darks days of Soccer Australia. Arnie came in on the back of, what was it? One or two seasons as coach of Northern Spirit in the NSL, just after retiring from playing in his mid 30s - Infact one season he was player/coach I think? So much like Farina, except worse, that was it in regards to senior coaching experience and general managerial refinement and perhaps technical education etc... To then we an assistant at NT level for the next decade, a period which saw him going from a young promising Aussie coach in his late 30s to now in his late 40s, grey hair and a chunk load of such mixed experience, mostly negative in the latter years, that has obviously affected his demeanour towards the Aussie media etc... It's like it's drained the life out of him in a way. That's one reason why I felt, even at the time, why he should've left the NT set up when he had the chance to join NAC Breda's set up, back circa 06 World Cup, on the back of Golden Guus' lustre. But that all evapored once he took the job full time and that Asian Cup debacle sank his promising reputation down the toilet. Around that time too, when he took up the job, Frank Farina wasn't too pleased - I think he made comments like Arnie had stabbed him in the back or something, by his staying on after Farina departed - But Farina may've said those comments earlier, not sure. But when one considers all that, it seems Arnie's time, post-Hiddink, was 'cursed' from the start. And I think you can well tell, even these days, that Farina and Arnie are far from the best buddies they may've once been.

It's all rather horrible really and I'll be kind of glad FOR Arnold once he leaves the NT set up.

I Just hope that who ever comes in, is the RIGHT match and doesn't suffer the same fate - As tbh the possibility still exists I think, especially considering how long Arnie remained in the job, in this new NT era. And I know he had that stupidly long contract and he wouldn't leave before it, but still, I just hope Aurelio or whoever aren't locked in for the next 10 years of their life with the NT, otherwise they will just stagnate and grow sour too.

That is way too much to read at 4am.

Re: The snub - I didn't see it live, and that is hilarious. Love how GA pats him on the chest too

Captions are brilliant too.

Is there a way I can put that on loop and watch it for about an hour?

Pretty awesome.

But if Arnold ends up as temporary coach until a replacement for Verbeek comes in, he's going to regret that.

Arnold's contract ends immediately after the World Cup. Plus, he's got the Mariner's gig to keep him entertained.

That doesn't mean he wouldn't get a rolling extension as a temporary fix.
