Cameroon boss Paul Le Guen has confirmed he will leave his post when his contract runs out this summer after failing to guide the team to the World Cup knockout stages.

Really would like someone on a winning roll to take over..

I guess I was hoping for somebody with a higher profile (i.e. a marketing dream with the media/public) and a couple of people that have been mentioned fit into that category (Frank Rijkaard for example).

I immediately thought that this was a 'cheap option by the FFA "because I didn't know anything about him he must be crap" (by my own admission), but he does have a reasonably good track record. He won 3 French League titles with Lyon and apart from a disastrous stint at Rangers, so he 'may' have the credentials IMO.

From what I have read about him, he can make some tough decisions like changing the captain and dropping star players. That could be good however, from what I have about his time at PSG and Rangers, not many of the players liked him.
I hope he isnt some erratic Frenchman who only French people can understand the idiosyncricities of.

He made big decisions which largely backfired on him spectacularly.

lets get diego! a one man marketing machine and someone who loves the beautiful game played beautifully! cue retorts re: drugs, cheating, bling, fidel castro....

Please not Le Guen.THIS GUY IS AN IMPOSTER! he took Rangers to a new low spending a heap of money on crap crap players and his team was voted the worst team in Rangers history! He also took a proud club like PSG and almost got them relegated! Please id rather the new coach be Mr Potato Head than him!

lets be serious about this, what do we want from a new coach?
i would say someone who understand the difficulties of the job(player travel, club releasing players, running 2 national teams as asian dates arent fifa dates), someone who appreciates that we want to see good football and that we are supportive of our national team(unlike many countries) and someone who spends long enough in australia to become a seriously marketable figure who is recognisable throughout the footballing and non footballing community.

Lets speculate even more and dream about having Pep Guardiola. Now we know that wont happen. So who would we really prefer, its easy to say who we dont want. Lets have a forum for once that doesnt slide into the ultra negative and start slagging each other off. That seems to be some peoples reason for coming on here.

I'm going out on a limb here, and always thinking of an Australian coach. Surely there must be one somewhere, even if only a potential.

I'd MUCH rather see someone else who's team just exited from the World Cup take the job, maybe someone who coached another African nation, someone like the man who did so well with the South African team, one Carlos Alberto Parreira!!!! Yes please!!!

id love to go aussie too frank, but the best we have are frank farina and john kosmina and while i like them both i cant see them being popular choices. my wife reckons fozzie should be given a crack, but shes english and has been told to get back in her box!hahaha

t3x8 carlos alberto parreira may well be interested..those who have read sheilas wogs and poofters will know that he offered to take the socceroos for free in the mid 90's, johnny warren took the proposal to the ASF, and they rejected it! crazy hey. makes you appreciate how far weve come under frank lowy

What makes you all think that Mr Lowy has not done a job on Rick Herbert and he may be our new coach? I'ts a big step up for Rick and I for one would be quite happy with him.

I dont think he is a bad coach but i dont think he is the right man for the job.

Personally i think Dutch coach suit us, we just need one that doesnt just defend and knows how to select a team.

Based on the way the national curriculum is set up I'd be very surprised if the new coach wasn't Dutch...

It's now been proven that Pim wasn't good enough, this guy would only be a giant step backwards.

The FFA appear to have looked at the jobs he's had, rather than how he's done them.

I would prefer Le Guen To Ricky, and I would still rather coat my balls in honey and dangle them over an ants nest than have Le Geun.

This guy is a liability!! The Lyon team he won 3 title with was MILES ahead of anyone else in France at that time. They won 7 titles in a row, some of them at a canter. Winning titles is nothing to sneeze at, but most managers would have done the same with that squad. He does have a record of promoting and developing youth, and bringing players from obscurity to prominence, but he also has a record for making good teams shit. He has the record of having the shortest managerial tenure in Glasgow Rangers history, a history that goes back 137 years!!)

Aside from all of that, his Cameroon side at this cup have been the worst team at the tournament. Eto' on right mid/wing??!!

Yes, there are worse coaches out there, but we dont want them for the Roos either.

I honestly believe we should stick with the Dutch option but and attacking Duchman Ie a Van Gaal or someone of that nature it would be a shame if FFA has gone through all this implementing the 433 system through the younger ranks and then at the top level having a coach that doesnt support the system

433 apparently isn't implemented through the youth ranks to specifically play them at senior level. From my understanding it is thought that the 433 system is the best for developing talent and also creates highly versatile footballers that can then adapt to any system which is implemented at senior level.

I thought you said Le Guen was a master tactician with vast European success because he won a few titles? Seems like everyone in this thread disagrees with your piss poor and uneducated input :idea:

Fact is, this guy is a failure and while he would be better than nothing(ie, appointing GA as manager again) but hes no where near the best choice to take us to 2014

Please no!! Questioning the people behind the hiring of the new national coach.

Carlos Bilardo wanted to coach the roos and he was knocked back, what more do they want!!! So no confidence at all in the decision makers.
