If some though Pim was uninspiring, then Sven will be just as uninspiring. Who remembers him coaching England, in the I think it was 2002 WC? I had never seen England so flat, they looked better even under Wally with the brolly. Please FFA NOT Sven.

You can't be serious about Svens football record? His shagging blondes record is much much better.

I am not saying Sven is my preferred candidate, but he does have a pretty good record, especially at Lazio, but you can go look up the details because I don't feel like educating such a juvenile turd-brain.

Sven would be well known in Asia, from his time with England, so from a PR point of view there may be positives.

The decision should be left to us , were the pricks paying the wage.
i'm supporting England , Ghana and germany if we get Sven , was a decent club coach in Italy ,can't coach national teams and has more than proven that fact if he was shagging half of England how is he going to go over here with our birds!!!

No Sven... No Paul Le Guen....Time to ease up on the Dutchmen...Here's one from left field and maybe one to polarise the soccer public and stakeholders, how about Slaven Bilic?...educated...experienced ...passionnate....controversial..and speaks English well...I reckon he would fit the bill for the Socceroos post Pim.

I don't know why I am even debating with you (not that it is an actual debate of any standard), but fireworks are now outlawed in the ACT, so you are shown to be clueless again.

And what's wrong with cheap porn or shagging blondes? I assume you would need the former because you clearly can't get the latter.

I agree with Fozzie- lets break the bank and get Marcelo Bielsa. Imagine a 3-4-3 with slick passing and pushing forward all the time. I want to see an Australia that shows our spirit. This dire 4-2-3-1 over the past 2 1/2 years virtually sucked the life out of me. Imagine- Schwarzer in goal. Wilkshire, Neill (c), Beauchamp back 3. Emerton, Valeri, Cahill, Carney midfield 4. Holman, Kewell/Kennedy/Mcdonald, Vidosic front 3. Im telling you, it works on FIFA!!!!

For those wanting Bielsa, I don't see that happening. Especially if the Chileans have their way. He will be working on all levels of Chilean Football. Don't think they would give him up with a massive fight...I think they'd win too...

Yeah cause that team would clearly be awesome

We do not have the depth to play 3 - 4 - 3.

Lose Cahil or Emerton or Macca or Kewell we are rooted.

What are u talking about? if you're a fan of ultra conservative football, be my guest Guest. Put it this way- South America have proven to be the dominant teams and all bar Brazil play attacking football. And when did we shine in the World Cup? The 2nd half v Serbia when we ATTACKED. You argue we don't have the "depth" or it seems the "quality" to attack, I'd argue we don't have the quality to defend or counter correctly. This world cup campaign has proven as much

I mean no disrespect and Sven is certainly ok, but,

Why oh why, are the coachings being linked to us soo ordinary (Their coaching records soo ordinary)??

Gullit? (Uggh)
Zola? (Bit fresh, lacking experience)
Le Guen? (Still a little fresh and mixed experiences thus far)
Sven? (Certainly experienced, including International level, but again mixed - including our NT owning HIS English side in that famous/infamous London friendly back in 03)

I know it's unrealistic to be expecting a Hiddink-like name, but sheesh, aren't there guys who are a little better, more successful, maybe more suited to our NT, than these guys?

TBH It made me a little worried once Lowy had revealed the field was narrowed to those coaches who were at the WC. While a few of those available coaches ARE decent coaches, including Sven and Paul, that also excludes a number of quality coaches who AREN'T coaching a NT at this WC, who may not only be available, but may be willing to take on the full commitment of being with the set up for the full 3 years and basing here for long periods, just like how Pim did. Again, it seems clear to me, that once that requirement comes in, the field naturally narrows a fair bit, but there are many very elite level European and South American coaches out there where coming to Australia, travelling through Asia for a good portion of the year would maybe even appeal, or certainly not be a deterrent.

Though tbh IF we get Sven, that won't be soo bad I guess, would it? Might even be pretty good - Media, public relations wise atleast - he DOES have some STAR power of his own, he's CERTAINLY a NAME coach! Just aslong as we aren't paying him through the nose (As in, WAY more than what we coughed up for Pim) for it to backfire on us big time with some big failure when compared to the Pim era even, or heck, might end up seeing us turning back to Aussie coaches the standard of Arnie, again, because the 'foreign experiment,' was deemed to have failed. :(

BTW Sorry for tangent, but I wonder how England will react, if/when they are eliminated from this World Cup? Certainly, come WC, things have been FAR from rosy under Capello, off and especially ON the pitch. Some of 'their lot' might pipe up for an 'English coach' again, especially given their NT's record or success, or lack there of, under foreigners Sven and Fabio. Unless they somehow steal Hiddink from the Turks, I can't possibly see where England would turn next, 'foreign coach' wise.

he coached england to 2 quater finals in big tournaments, and they only got knocked out by penalties, and once with 10 men getting. That is good for England, who just are not that good. He did better than Coppello. Dont believe the English press, who are deluded. Sven's club record is outstanding

Sven didn't do that flash hot with Mexico in their WC Qualifiers though. He did alright in his short stint with Ivory Coast but he didn't have to coach them through their gruelling WC Qualification campaign. And he's a different personality type - I wonder how he would manage our playing group, our squads? I suppose we aren't too different from the English, given we speak English, many of us play there and what have you, but he's not known as the disciplinarian type that Hiddink is and Pim even conveyed to some degree. I think he's known as more of an easy going sort of chap, isn't he? I wonder how that would go/work with our boys. I suppose another approach like that can work, especially as his level of experience, pedigree, is still top tier ofcourse.

hmm yeah, given how Cappello has gone, Sven was a right royal success indeed. But still, would he be willing to base himself here, do like Pim did? I just can't imagine him being with us from later this year, right through to 2014, watch A-League.. Woh, I JUST realised - If/When it's decided that we will host the 2015 Asian Cup (We're only bidding nation for it last I heard), that will mean we automatically qualify for the tournament, so bypassing the troublesome Asian Cup Qualifiers that we went through with our home based squads under Pim. Suddenly, the workload of our NT's next manager is that bit less, without those six extra fixtures, atleast. So just the 2011 Asian Cup, then World Cup Qualifiers and the odd friendly match, only. Though, IF we somehow win the 2011 Asian Cup, we would then feature at the 2013 Confederations Cup in Brazil, but hey, that would be great prep for the 2014 WC, IF we qualify.

BTW I never quite understood why he joined little Notts County in their ambitious experiment, but I suppose he's a bit older now (semi-retirement?) and there was a fair bit of investment involved (Nice wage). Still now he's back in International football, coaching the likes of Ivory Coast at a World Cup.

OMG - that would be a horrendous decision...he's well past his prime days as Lazio boss
He almost coached a good Mexican team into missing out on qualification - luckily they sacked him and now play geat football
He coached a star team in the Ivory Cost to elimination
He's only advantage is he might be better than Pim....but if we think back 3 years ago Pim was better than Arnold!!
