Fighting for victory ... and a cure

21 Jul, 2010 04:00 AM

Dubbo Soccer Association’s All-Age Competition between East Dubbo United FC (EDUFC) and the Dubbo City Pastoral Rangers on July 4 kicked off a month-long fundraising effort for EDUFC, with the match doubling as the club’s start of it’s ‘Call to Arms’ fundraising campaign in support of the Cancer Council.

EDUFC started the campaign in style, coming away with a hard-fought 2-1 victory, with some brilliant performances put in by Matty Polak, Zac Murphy and Brodie Holland against a impressive Rangers outift.

EDUFC’s fundraising campaign aims to raise funds for research into the cure and prevention of men’s cancer, as well as to raise awareness for men’s cancer.

The EDUFC boys wore yellow socks, donated by sponsors Joma sport, and armbands to further increase the exposure of the event and issue.

Both teams were under-strength, with several players unavailable, but this did not stop them from putting victory at a premium as they attacked from the outset of the match.

EDUFC opened the scoring through Troy Laws after a well worked move.

The game continued at a fast pace and the Rangers were afforded the opportunity to attack on several occasions.

Eventually the Rangers levelled through a well taken shot from the edge of the 18-yard box which gave the EDUFC keeper little chance.

The teams went to the break at 1-1.

After the resumption, the game opened up with both teams on the hunt for the winning goal.

Rangers created several chances, as did EDUFC and it was the latter that managed to get what they were aiming for with Zac Murphy slipping his marker and slotting the ball past the Rangers goalkeeper.

Rangers pushed for the equaliser and were only thwarted by a good save from the EDUFC goalie.

EDUFC thank all sponsors who supported them along with all of those who donated to the cause.

It is not too late to donate or buy raffle tickets, simply go to www.calltoarms.com.au to donate or see the EDUFC guys on any match day to purchase raffle tickets.

The EDUFC raffle will be drawn on August 1, with the first and second prizes being an official Joma Honduras 2010 FIFA world cup jersey.
