I realise that, but I think if people take the time to do the little things (double space after the full stop etc), then I think it goes a long way to increasing the quality of the boards... Probably starting to get very, VERY anal though!

I think we have bigger fish to fry in terms of racism/negativity/sexism before we start getting on people's backs about double spacing.

Although I do agree that even small things like using capital letters, correct spelling and grammar seems to push people towards being less troll-like.

Nothing wrong with the term "Grammar Nazi". It probably stemmed from the Soup Nazi.

Nazi is not a racist term, it is a political ideology term. Of course it has negative connotations due to the whole purity of race, pastoral utopian ideal that it was sprung from. Same as Communism.

As for the double space thing, I only use it in essays - everywhere else it is common practise to use a single space.

Have you ever written the same word down so many times that it doesn't look like a real word anymore and you think you are spelling it wrong?

Same thing with saying the same word over and over again and before long you start thinking that the word sounds really weird and shouldn't be a word?

Eg. Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four.

Or am I just a weirdo?

Yep that's happened to me a few time. It's a weird feeling, cause every time you write it, you wonder if you're spelling it wrong.

But ditto Erebus - it's usually longer words then 'Four'

I had that happen to me when I was trying to write specificity today... say that 10 times quick.

Something just as bad.. Im decent with spelling but some words get me. I know the correct spelling and the incorrect spelling. I can recall the times I was picked up on a mistake and the teachers who picked it up but I cant remember which one is the spelled the correct way! Makes me rage. Eg. seperate and separate. Opportunity and Oppurtunity. Theres some processing fault in my mind with just those words and I get confused writing them.

What pisses me off sometimes is when people have difficulty pronouncing words that arent even difficult to pronounce.

One of my gripes that I just thought of is referring to products by a brand name. Admittedly I do use some of these. But common usage has made the brands synonymous with their respective products - good for the companies I guess.

eg:
"I need a panadol." Panadol is a brand, you need a pain-killer or paracetamol.
"I need a band-aid." Band-Aid is a Johnson&Johnson brand, you need to harden the fuck up.
"Get me a coke" (implication is usually more toward wanting Coca-Cola specifically rather than just any cola, but the fallacy still occurs when they really just want a cola).

"iPod" seems to be the universal term for '[portable] MP3 player' these days also.

There are others I can't recall right now. But you get the picture.

Funnily enough, 'google' became an accepted verb.

massive issue of mine. at work, i have a big habit of only prescribing by generic names (eg, paracetamol) rather than trade names (panadol). it's a principle things more than anything else. a deeply held mistrust of the pharmaceutical industry.

what shits me most, however, is when nurses come up to me and tell me i've written the wrong thing because they don't recognise generics. epic failure of the system when nurses and trying to get me to rechart meds because they've never heard of their 'real' names.

Nah, I have the same thing. It's because the repetition makes your mind start breaking down the word into individual syllables and sounds, obviously the sounds themselves and the phoenetics are nonsensical once you break it down enough. You actually use this in audio engineering to break down a sound into components, it's either very useful or very annoying.
