To be fair, the Western stand (well, the top, which is all I could see) was pretty packed. I thought the 4.1k crowd figure released was pretty accurate.

No idea what this 14k reference is about though

After the past few weeks, I have begun to think we need to give Stubbins the benefit of the doubt for the moment. He has clearly had a shit season but some of that must be due to club politics and the admin. After the cleanout they are looking better than before. Also with ki ji signing on again and mullen, boogard and cooper signing, there must be something behind the scenes that is looking promising. Stubbins has a lot of work to do to repair his relationship with the fans but if he can build a competitive side next year, would they come back. They need to make some pretty major signings to do this but if they do, it could happen

I think your new coach, Scott Miller, is really quite the interesting appointment and the latest comments etc... just reflect for me, what a potentially interesting and productive appointment, it could be. Good for you guys! :)

Two more signings to complete Jets puzzle

By JAMES GARDINER
July 24, 2015, 9:30 p.m.

JETS coach Scott Miller is satisfied that he has a squad that will be competitive in the A-League.

But the former Fulham assistant is also acutely aware that his next two signings could determine how high the wooden spooners from last season can climb.

Miller put another building block in place with the addition on Friday of industrious former Adelaide midfielder Cameron Watson, taking the squad to 19 players.

‘‘If you look at the players we have recruited, they are not robotic in a sense, but they have a disciplined approach to the game,’’ Miller said

‘‘I do need a different link. Someone who can actually break the back four and give us a bit of attacking impetus.

‘‘My view is [we need] a 9 and 10, both visas players of quality and experience.’’

Miller has a shortlist of potential recruits he is working through methodically.

‘‘We are getting there,’’ he said. ‘‘We have identified a number of people. It is coming down to the decision-making process now.

‘‘You get to the negotiation stage and the reality of the salary cap comes into play.’’

A veteran of 106 A-League games, Watson joined fellow new arrivals Labinot Haliti and Mateo Poljak for their first training session at Ray Watt Oval on Friday.

‘‘The new players add depth and quality to the squad,’’ Miller said.

‘‘Their experience is what I am looking for; understanding and ability to manage the game when we need to do so.

‘‘Cameron will be an important part.

‘‘He is a disciplined player, he is combative but he also has that creative mindset.’’

After five years in Adelaide, Watson is looking forward to a fresh environment and new challenge.

‘‘I had finished at Adelaide and was back in Melbourne when I got a call from the gaffer here,’’ Watson said.

‘‘It was a pretty quick conversation. He was very positive on the phone and spoke about having a fresh start here.’’

A mainstay for most of his time in Adelaide, Watson made just 11 appearances and two as a starter last season.

‘‘I broke my toe, which kept me out for nearly four months,’’ he said. ‘‘Then I had a couple of strains in the calf coming back from that on the same leg.

‘‘I got past that, but Adelaide were playing so well and it was hard to break back in.’’

Released by the Reds at the end of the season, Watson thought his A-League days might be over.

‘‘There were times when I was unsure,’’ he said. ‘‘In the back of my mind I was quietly confident that something was going to happen. You need to have that in you.’’

Watson, who played in Portugal and Holland as a teenager, will compete with Poljak and Ben Kantarovski for a place in central midfield, but is also adept at right back.

‘‘If need be, I can slot back there,’’ he said. ‘‘All my life, whether it be overseas at youth level, it has always been in the centre of the park.’’

Triallists Max Burgess, Kofi Danning, Aryn Williams and Pat Alelmi were told on Friday that they will not be offered contracts.

‘‘They will train with us in some capacity, but at this point they won’t be joining the club,’’ Miller said.

South African-born target man Ryan De Vries, who represented New Zealand in a friendly against South Korea this year, will accompany the Jets on their pre-season training camp in northern NSW, which runs from Monday until next Saturday.

The Jets will stay overnight in Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour en route to Armidale, where they spend four days.

As well as engaging with fans, the Jets will use the trip for team building.

‘‘Next week will be of huge importance. It will be enjoyable as well, travelling and spending time together.’’

So possible line-up atm could be:

------------Biraz/Bk----------------
-Watson/Hoff (?)--Mullen--Boogaard--Lee-KI-Je
-------Poljak-------Kanta/Watson------
-Alivodic----Cooper (?)---Carney--
--------Pav/Brennan/Hoff/Haliti------

*keep in mind I always get the wings mixed up

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Striker and attacking mid will hopefully be of a decent quality and provide some x-factor and SPEED that is missing at present in that proposed line-up. Still a question mark over alivodic due to visa problems/cold feet. I doubt both he and carney would start on opposite wings basically due to lack of speed and desire to get back in transition.
I think miller is near enough on the money with regards to signing disciplined players, especially in the midfield. We ofcourse have to bare in mind the lack of cap space he has to work with.
All we can hope for now is that there is enough for a decent quality 9 and 10.

Miller confirms squad for Jets tour

Newcastle Jets boss Scott Miller has rewarded four of the club’s 2015 PS4 National Premier League (NPL) players with a place in his squad for the club’s tour around Northern NSW this week.

Michael Kantarovski, Reece Papas, Braedyn Crowley and Andrew Pawiak have each been invited to join the first team on the tour that will feature stops in towns including Taree, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Armidale, and Tamworth.

When the bus departs Ray Watt Oval at the University of Newcastle at 8:00am on Monday bound for Port Macquarie via Taree, a total of 24 players will be onboard.

Alongside M. Kantarovski, Papas, Crowley and Pawiak will be Nick Cowburn – who has ten Hyundai A-League appearances with the club to his credit – as well as New Zealand international trialist Ryan de Vries.

De Vries is currently contracted to PS4 NPL Victoria pacesetters Bentleigh Greens.

The Cape Town born attacker has previously featured for prominent Kiwi clubs Auckland City FC – with whom he scored for at the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup – as well as Waitakere United.

Naturally, all of the club’s A-League 2015/16 contracted players are set to venture on the six-day anti-clockwise loop of Northern NSW.

“I am glad that we have been able to reward Michael [Kantarovski], Reece [Papas], Braedyn [Crowley] and Andrew [Pawiak] with a place on the tour,” Miller said.

“There were certainly other youth team players in the mix to travel with us, however these boys have been selected because of their application and attitudes, and because we view them as potential A-League prospects.”

“The trip ought to provide them with the opportunity to learn from the senior players and staff, and hopefully grow and improve as footballers and people.”

“It also gives us the opportunity to take a close look at them in more than just the training environment, assess their strengths and weaknesses, and then consider how we can help them progress beyond the youth team in the future,” he concluded.

Newcastle Jets will train at Zone Fields in Taree from approximately 10:30am on Monday, before making two player appearances in the town in the afternoon. From 3:00pm to 4:00pm Jets players will be at the Greater Building Society on Manning Street, while from 3:30pm to 4:30pm squad members will be at McDonalds on Manning River Drive.

Jets players will also be the Greater Building Society on Horton Street in Port Macquarie between 3:00pm to 4:00pm on Monday.

JETS: TOUR (NNSW) 2015 travelling squad: Ben Kennedy (Gk), Mark Birighitti (Gk), Daniel Mullen, Nigel Boogaard, Lee Ki-je, Themba Muata-Marlow, Lachlan Jackson, Jason Hoffman, Ben Kantarovski, Mitch Cooper, Josh Barresi, David Carney, Andy Brennan, Radovan Pavicevic, Labinot Haliti, Cameron Watson, Mateo Poljak, Brandon Lundy, Michael Kantarovski (youth), Reece Papas (youth), Braedyn Crowley (youth), Andrew Pawiak (youth), Nick Cowburn (trialist), Ryan de Vries (trialist)

Really? I feel like we've been really vocal tbh.

Heaps of members forums, lots of pressers from the FFA (aka owners), Miller and the new coaching staff.

From all the reports I've seen, they're looking at visa players for #10 and #9. I have doubts if they'll sign any more than 2-3 players.

I'll be satisfied if we win in Gosford, and finish above CCM.

Genuinely don't care about the rest. And tbh, if we achieve the above two, it'll be far above anything we've achieved in the last 7 years.

So 3 more signings to bring us to 21 am I right? 2 visas and someone like Alex smith or a young striker.

The visa no.10 sounds pretty close so hopefully this week and then a striker to follow not too far behind.

If we can get two good foreigners for the no. 10 and 9 roles we'll have a solid squad. Add to that, if we sign them before the takeover happens or sign within the cap then we can (hopefully) afford a decent marquee to spice the team up

I don't think the Jets or the FFA in this regard have the money to spend on quality players especially in the No.9 and 10 roles.

Word last night was we've signed a visa #10 and it will be announced within a week, as it's pending medicals and clearance etc.

I've heard a pretty solid rumour of his pedigree, and if true then I am very excited.

THE SQUADRON LAUNCHES #NEWYHELPS CHARITY CAMPAIGN

http://www.newcastlefootball.net/home/2015/11/the-squadron-launches-newyhelps-charity-campaign/

The Squadron FSC (Football Supporters Club) Inc is very proud to announce we have launched a charity campaign that we have named #NewyHelps – as it’s all about the people of Newcastle helping their fellow Novocastrians during tough times. We are aiming to raise $3500 to fund two charity initiatives.

Our first initiative is to help families staying at Ronald McDonald House at John Hunter Hospital. Families staying at RMH are there because they have a child in hospital with a serious or life-threatening condition – and this can be a hugely stressful time for families to deal with. What this initiative aims to do is to provide the opportunity for a different family of up to 5 people each game to attend a Jets home fixture. and to be able to unwind and enjoy some time away for a few hours at the football.

These families will be seated in an open air box at Hunter Stadium with catering already paid for each family member and a Squadron scarf each. The only item the families will have to pay for is any drinks they wish to purchase.

As well as this, each family will be hosted for each game in their box by an ex-Newcastle Jets player. We are very honoured that we have been able to secure Joel Griffiths, Matt Thompson, Stu Musialik and Jobe Wheelhouse who have very graciously volunteered to host several different games each and to spend time with these families to make their experience truly memorable.

Our second initiative we are raising money for is Sam’s Fund for SUDEP (Sudden Unexplained Death due to EPilepsy). This fund was set up in memory of Squadron member Sam Taylor who passed away at the age of only 23 in May 2015. Sam’s Fund aims to raise awareness of SUDEP and to donate money for SUDEP research.

We are also pleased to announce that everyone who donates money to the #NewyHelps campaign via the website will be automatically entered into the #NewyHelps Fundraising Raffle. Every $5 donated will get 1 entry into the raffle, $25 will get you 6 entries. If you are unable to donate via the website, we will also be selling raffle tickets outside the Western Stand entry gates for the next few home games starting with the F3 Derby which will also be raising money twoards the donation target.

To donate to the campaign please go to newcastlefootball.net/newyhelps for the full details on the campiagn and raffle and to donate
Any media, business or other enquiries regarding the #NewyHelps campaign please email us newyhelps@newcastlefootball.net

We must thank a number of people who helped make this campaign possible:
Matt Weldon-Smith from the Yellow Fever who was invaluable in providing setup and other details on the #FeverDeams campaign currently being run by the Yellow Fever supporters club
The Newcastle Jets Football Club for donating the open air box at Hunter Stadium and in particular Brooke Cousins for all her help
Joel Griffiths, Matt Thompson, Stu Musialik and Jobe Wheelhouse for donating their time to attend several games each to host the RMH Families
Jets major sponsors Inspirations Paint and Beechwood Homes who were the first businesses to generously donate items to the #NewyHelps raffle

Any businesses who wish to donate or provide goods or services to add to the raffle, please contact us on the above email address.

Bump!

With Hoole and Duncan most likely joining us that effectively leaves two visa spots, a mature age rookie and a guest player to fill out our squad

Our squad currently:
GK: Kennedy, most likely Duncan

Defence: Boogaard, Mullen, Cowburn, Hoffman, Alessi, Kanta, Jackson

Midfield: Poljak, Cooper, Ugarkovic, Clut, Brown, most likely Hoole, Kanta

Attack: Nordstand, Haliti, Brennan, Pavicevic

Honestly if Boogaard stays on the pitch we have a solid enough defence. We need an out-and-out no.9 and a visa player with some versatility somewhere on the park

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Attack: Nordstand, Haliti, Brennan, Pavicevic

do you think Pavicevic will have a break out year? he looked good in the few games hes played so far. just needs a bit of fine tuning and he coud be decent

It will be interesting to see how Brennan goes.

Didn't he have an injury interrupted year?
