Quote:EXACTLY HE SAID HE WASNT NAMING ANY NAMES THAT DOSENT MEAN A PLAYER LIKE NEDVED WAS COMING OUT OF CONTEXT COMPLETLY Oh come on, he said "serie A players" ha dapproached him with questions about playing in the a-league, that 1)doesn't mean that they want to come and play here, just that they are curious. and 2)There are some 1700 players registered in the serie A, the players doing the questioning could have been someone like Daniele Buzzegoli or Franco Razzotti or Gerraro Sardo, none of which are particularly standout players. Quote: think he would do well here. the article said he wanted to be a guest. he would be the only marque except york to have succeed here. So you would contend taht Juninho and Thompson have been failures then? Bullshit. Quote:he is old. so what. he is ten times better than anyone who has ever played in the a-league No, he WAS ten times better. time has taken it's toll and his knees arent' what they used to be. What makes you think that he will succeed here? People also had these high expectations of Juninho and Jardel when they were first announced as marquees but did they live up to their expectations? No. Quote:Well why dont we just go get Stan Collymore out of retirement Hahaahahahaaa!!! I still laugh when anybody talks of Jardel, its awesome.

Nah, I would still place the same expectation on him as Yorke, Carbone & Juninho. Names like these should be expected to play at high level, which of that Yorke & Carbone did, and when Juninho wasn't injured had performed.

Expectation comes as part of the job, especially when you've made a name for yourself.

if nedved isnt good how come he is still playing at a club like juventus. the defenses would have no hope in tyring to stop him.

No-one said he wasn't good, because back in the day Nedved was great, the main word there being ' was'. The A-League does not need more oldies in the league, that 'used to' be good. We need players that are still good and can offer something to the league, and that's who a marquee player should represent.

To be fair, Nedved is in a different class to Jardel.

Nedved was close to retiring before last season. He said he was thinking of retiring if Juve was relegated. They convinced him not to and that season in Serie B probably prolonged his career for 1 or 2 more seasons (since they only played one game a week).
This season may very well be his last. Maybe one more if they make Champions League. But next will for sure will be his last.
I don't want players like that coming down here. He will get hacked but some crappy Aussie defender who can't defend and then get injured ala Juninho.

Any big name star that comes down under will get that. They have to block it out, and try no to get injured in the process.

The older you are the more its going to affect you. I agree that Cocu would've have stood up for himself, and I for one, would've loved to see him play in the A-League.

He would have been the oldest marquee that the A-League's had. He was 36 when he was thinking of coming to Australia. Mind you he wasn't all that injury prone to begin with. Would have been better than Juninho but that's what happens. He went to Al-Jazira instead.
As for Nedved, I doubt he'd come here, he's way on the wrong side of 30 and well, I think he'd cost a bit too much. The whole injury thing is another issue as well.

He is certainly too old and the pay packet we would have to offer him to come down under would be way out of our league.
