Texans gave up at half time. With Brady complaining to the refs and getting the call he wanted a play later, there's no way you're going to win.

The Eagles started with two horrible turnovers on their opening possessions and now the Bengals have blown their two possession lead purely on stupid mistakes  This Bengals team looks good on their day, but they're 0-9 in their last 9 primetime games - they're not ready for play-offs.

The Packers pile on 21 unanswered points in the second quarter to beat the bears and take the NFC North title. A strange play call in the third quarter though, a punt return fielded by cobb and they decide to throw it across the field. Made no sense and would have cost us the game if Cutler wasn't shit. Crosby again missed 2 FG's, time for him to go the way of ol' yeller.

Meanwhile, the Falcons shut out the Giants 34-0. The saints shut out the Bucs as Freeman throws four picks. Miami, Washington and Denver cruise. Another big day out for Peterson against the Rams and Houston bounce back against the Colts.

Seattle break 50 two weeks in a row. They're definitely hitting form at the right time.

Somehow the Cardinals snap their 9-game losing streak to get up over a woeful Detroit team that threw three interceptions, Carolina do it easy over the Chargers, Oakland held Kansas scoreless.

Dallas' OT win against the Steelers makes two play-off races very interesting. The AFC North currently shapes up Ravens (9-5), Bengals (8-6), Steelers (7-7). And the NFC East is crazy as with Redskins, Giants and Cowboys ALL on 8-6.

Awful 1st half from us gifted the 49ers the win. They were all over us in that half.

They're heading for a fall. Call it football karma. You don't fake punt while up by 30 and get away with it.

Kaepernick was excellent. Made a lot of good throws and only made one big mistake, when he threw a long ball over the top into double coverage that was picked off in the endzone. Their D was immense in the first half. Would've helped if Ridley and Vereen actually knew how to HOLD ONTO THE DAMN BALL ](*,) Two mistakes from Hernandez and Welker lead to interceptions as well.

Some positives though. Woodhead was his usual hard working self and had a great game. Lloyd made several amazing ctches and had 190 receiving yards. Brady was excellent again, the first interception he did overthrow it slightly but it still could've been avoided and the second one wasn't his fault. He carried the team in that second half, i think he drove 4 consecutive touchdown drives unanswered. Talib had another good game. Wilfork was a beast once again.

Confident we can still get to the Superbowl again. Just need to avoid a 1st half like that again.

If you want to beat the Pats all you have to do is take full advantage of your slot receivers, take Talib out of the game and make it a shoot-out. Pats don't have the secondary to stop you.

Big weekend coming up, Calvin Johnson goes into the Lions clash with Atlanta on 1667 yards - 181 yards shy of Jerry Rice's single-season record, and Adrian Peterson is on 1812 yards, 293 yards shy of Eric Dickerson's record ahead of the Vikings' clash with Houston. This week will be a determining factor if the records are going to fall. Aldon Smith and JJ Watt are both 3 sacks away from Michael Strahan's record.

Our fantasy league is wrapping up too. Mean Machine (Benjo) takes on Afroman FC (me) for the title while Supple Dumpers (Buddha) takes on Sack Exchange (Azzurro89) for third place honours. Shakers and F1FC are taking on a couple of my mates for 5th and 7th in the consolation games.

Good luck everyone. Except Benjo

Huge week for the actual play-offs too...With the Seahawks sitting 9-5 and holding the first wildcard spot, the Redskins, Cowboys, Giants, Bears and Vikings are all level on 8-6 and vying for the final wildcard place (though the Seahawks should be 8-6 as well...[-x [-( )

Hoepfully the Seahawks can get up this week so the Packers can move into the #2 seed in the NFC with a win.

Last week was all about battle-for-the-playoffs, this week it's battle-for-the-draft-picks  Oakland v Carolina, Buffalo v Miami, San Diego v Jets, Rams v Bucs

The Packers definitely highlighted their superbowl credentials this morning with a 48 point shellacking of the Titans.

The Pats did it hard against the Jags, The Vikings got up on the road against the Texans (they look like they're in trouble), Bengals broke their 9-game losing streak to division rivals with a late FG. Other than that it was business as usual for games today.

Massive hit on Vernon Davis early on from Kim Chancellor pretty much ended any hopes of a Niners fightback. That blocked FG was a mean effort too.

Why Rising Ticket Prices and Technology Lead NFL Fans to Stay Home
Dec 23, 2012 4:45 AM EST

High ticket prices, bigger televisions, and expanded free coverage spur NFL fans to watch at home instead of brave the elements at the stadium.

When the cameras pan the domes, parks, fields, and other arenas during NFL games this weekend, viewers are likely to notice a common feature: empty seats.

In some ways, professional football is more popular than ever. The average football television rating is up 15 percent from five seasons ago. But in contrast, live game attendance has steadily dropped since 2007. Despite a 1 percent increase this year, 4.5 percent fewer fans are attending games in the current season than they did five years ago.
With each passing year, it seems, more die-hard fans are choosing to forgo the intimacy and atmosphere of stadium seats for the ease, comfort, and low cost of their living room TVs. “We’re in essence competing with ourselves,” says NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy. “Our fans are still going to stadiums, but the majority of our games are still free on TV, which is different than the other sports leagues. So there’s an incredible value for being an NFL fan and it doesn’t cost the fan to watch the game over the TV.”
Economists and sports buffs are at odds as to what has caused the shift from the thrill of the stadium to the comfort of a couch or bar. Some say it’s the technology that has naturally made television a better story teller for America’s new greatest pastime.
“The at-home experience continues to get better. It’s really the golden age for fans,” says McCarthy. “They are watching games on their 50-inch HD monitors, they have access to NFL.com … there is NFL Redzone, where you can watch every single score in real time and you have access to food and other comforts at home.”
Others speculate the reason for increased television viewing is that stadiums are failing to captivate audiences and instead focusing their efforts on TV deals. After all, that’s where the majority of the money is. Consider for a moment that each team made $102.5 million from the national TV deal last year and that the NFL’s revenue from broadcasting is more than double what it made from ticket sales. In other words, smaller numbers of fans and declining sales of beer and popcorn may not put too hurt the bottom line of owners too much.
Nicholas Colas, chief market strategist at technology firm ConvergeEx, says it’s the economy that has rendered tickets too expensive for the average Joe. He says a significant factor of lowered NFL attendance is that fans simply can’t afford to go to games. “If you take a family of four to a football game and you get the average seat—between the parking and making the day for the kids a good experience [with concession items] you are spending about $600, which is the price to pay for a good TV back home,” he said.
According to Statista, the average NFL ticket price this season is $78.38 a 2.5 percent increase from last year. Tickets averaged only $67.11 in 2007, the year that the NFL saw record-breaking game attendance and the year the recession began. That’s a 17 percent increase in a period where incomes have generally fallen.
But despite recent, declining turnout, numbers show that stadiums have done little to make games more affordable. The average price of a seat has continued to increase every year. Colas says teams try to price tickets “right to the marginal level so they don’t leave any money on the table,” but stadiums are continuing to have empty seats at games.
Other sports have faced a similar dilemma with filling their arenas.
In three straight baseball-playoff home games this past season, the New York Yankees drew fewer than 47,200 fans to the big stadium in the Bronx, 3,000 short of capacity. The Anaheim Angels saw an attendance drop of 14 percent, the largest in the major leagues.
Consider for a moment that each team made $102.5 million from the national TV deal last year and that the NFL’s revenue from broadcasting is more than double what it made from ticket sales.
Revenue from NASCAR ticket sales is also in sharp decline. According to securities fillings, earnings fell 38 percent over the past five years in the three companies that host 35 of the 38 race weekends. NASCAR’s largest track operator has also lost more than 40 percent of its ticket revenue.
NASCAR racetrack companies say the economy is largely to blame and that it has began offering deals to increase attendees. “We’ve done discounts for folks, the four-packs and the six-packs—maybe food and beverage is included in the ticket,” SMI president Marcus Smith told Charlotte’s Sports Business Journal. “It’s not the model that you would look to in the short term because it has resulted in some lower admission revenue. But it’s the right thing long term for our fan base because more and more fans are able to attend and continue their tradition.”
Some analysts like Colas worry that if the NFL doesn’t do similar price reductions or deals it will get to a point where the cost of attendance is too high to fill capacity. As a result, it will be difficult to raise funds to keep up stadiums. “A lot of consumers are telling me that it’s becoming a luxury good rather than a consumer treat,” said Colas of NFL tickets. “The question is: has the NFL bumped up against a price ceiling?”
John Greenberg, executive editor of Team Marketing Report, argues there will always be profit to be made from NFL games, regardless of seat prices. “Every year I always wonder, ‘Where does this end? Where do ticket prices go?’ You would think there is a kind of ceiling,” he said. “But it’s the fact that there are only eight regular-season home games. So the scarcity drives up the prices. That’s why you are going to see prices stay high.”
He adds that real football aficionados will never stop attending live games, despite the rising prices of seats. “Everyone likes to use the economy. I’m sure there are people who have given up season tickets because they have lost their jobs and are worried about money, but I don’t think it’s going to go dramatically in one way or another,” he said. “There’s always going to be value in seeing things live.”

Congrats to Afro for taking out the title, although he was lucky he wasn't facing Buddha, who clocked up almost 200 points this week. I wasn't helped by the fact Davis had to leave the game early, Cruz being very quiet, Brady throwing a couple of picks and Green-Ellis having his worst game of the year.

Big match this week is Washington vs Dallas for a division title, with the loser not making the playoffs. Very, very interesting game. Tipping the 'skins. Romo will keep Dallas in the game for long enough, but they'll fall short on the final drive.

Romo's actually been playing some of the best football of his career. The fact that this has gone entirely unnoticed says a lot about his quality as a player though  Redskins will have Griffin back - the Redskins staff couldn't have wished for a better end to the season, really.

I'm a bit perplexed that the Bears/Lions game is on before the Packers/Vikings game. If the Bears lose then the Vikings are going play a lot harder than they would have.

The really big game this week though is the Ravens @ Bengals. The Bengals have a superb chance to end the Ravens/Steelers long-term dominance over the division. Shaping up as one hell of a game there.

And with Tony Romo's usual capitulation the Regular Season wraps up.

The only real surprise this week was the Falcons losing to the Bucs and a solid showing from the Panthers.

So the play-offs shape up thus:

Wildcard Games:
Bengals @ Texans
Colts @ Ravens
Vikings @ Packers
Seahawks @ Redskins

Divisional games:
Lowest Seed (predicting Colts) @ Broncos
Highest Seed (Predicting Texans) @ Patriots
Lowest Seed (Predicting Seahawks) @ Falcons
Highest Seed (Predicting Packers) @ Niners

Divisional Round:
Patriots @ Broncos
Seahawks @ Packers

Super Bowl:
Broncos V Packers

I reckon this is the Ravens' last chance to do anything for quite a while. They'll probably lose Rice at the end of the season as well and they won't be keeping Flacco after the season he's had (QB merri-go-round, what up?!) so they're going to have to turn it on here tonight.

Packers won with ease over the Vikings. They pretty much played the 4th quarter at walk-through speed yesterday.

The Bengals blew a game they really should have won, Andy Dalton needs to work on his deep ball and stop relying on AJ Green to put on yards after the catch.

EDIT: No sooner do I say that about Ray Rice and he puts down a 42 yard run.

So the Ravens easily account for the Colts to set up a trip to Denver next week while Seattle take their first road win in the play-offs since 1984, holding out the Redskins for three quarters to take on the Falcons next week.

So next week's Divisional games are:
Baltimore @ Denver
Houston @ New England
Packers @ Niners
Seattle @ Atlanta

Historically, the Divisional round see a very high percentage of home wins. Packers have a pretty good record against SF in the playoffs, 4-1 all time. They look like the only road team with a shot to be honest, although it depends on which Atlanta team shows up against Seattle.

In the last 3 seasons, 4/12 Divisional games have been won by the road team.

Atlanta didn't take the week off and have been training and preparing for a fortnight for this game. I think they'll be too much for Wilson and co defensively. The offence on the other hand...

The Packers are looking good with Woodson back, and their run D this week was the best it's been in a long time. The Niners D will have J. Smith returning to their pass rush and we all know how shaky that Packers O-line can be. That said, DuJuan Harris was superb on the screen this week.

So what exactly does 'historically' mean to you? The last 3 seasons?
From 1978 through 2003, home teams in the divisional round were 76-24, or .760. Since then however, they are 18-14 (.563).
