Another defensive injury to Arsenal. Not having a good injury run are you?

Hopefully a speedy recovery.

Pretty depressing result, just compounded by Djourou's injury. Which is the biggest blow of our season by far.

There are some sort of positives though/
- Still only 1 win away from top of the league
- Cesc and Theo to come back in the next week or so

The funniest thing about all this is that for as depressing as that loss was, there's still a real chance we could finish this season with the league title

:-s Bigger than losing the League Cup final? Bigger than losing to Barca? Bigger than losing Cesc for a few weeks. Bigger than losing Szcezny? Bigger than.... well, you get my point :P

Yeah, it is because losing Djourou could mean not winning the title.

The League Cup Final was dissapointing but we were still in 3 competitions at the time and still had a lot to look forward to.

Losing to Barca, well no one expected us to beat them anyway so not really a season changing blow.

Losing Szczesny, well it remains to be seen how big a loss he is.

Losing Cesc for a few weeks is nothing compared to losing Djourou for the rest of the season. Djourou along with Nasri and Wilshere have been our most improved players this season and the bright spot of this season so far.

Also Djourou being out means Squillaci plays and that scares me. Means we only have 2 fit senior CB's.

I'm trying to figure out how losing to United, who haven't lost at home all season, is choking

I said we COULD win the title, but Djourou being out COULD also mean we don't win the title.

Could being the key word there.

Seriously, how can people consider the Carling Cup Final getting 'knocked out'. The cup was over regardless of the result, that's not getting knocked out of a tournament.

The other 2, well we've done it before. In 2004 we got knocked out of the Champions League and FA Cup in a week, then went on to win the league.

Doesn't change that in the space of two weeks you've gone from "Arsene: We can do the quarduple."
To "Arsene: Fight is on for premier league."

But is that any great surprise. We were expected to go out against Barcelona and losing to United at Old Trafford is no great surprise. Just looks really bad because all 3 of the last games in the various cups have come in the last 2 weeks.

Well really you should have been able to defeat Birmingham. And you effectively gave up a 2-goal lead against Barcelona to go out in regulation time.

Birmingham is the only one where you can really 100% say we should have won.

As for 2 goal lead at Barca, a 2-1 win at home was never going to be enough. We needed a 3-1 at the very least like Inter last year.

Two weeks ago you were claiming it was. Two weeks ago you were heralding it as the second coming and that you could make it through. You effectively had a two goal lead when you scored away and gave it up anyway.

At the time I thought it may be enough, and that we were in with a chance to make it through, and had a feeling that with a bit of luck we could get through. A 2-1 lead might have been enough if we didn't go down to 10 men, but once RvP was sent off it was all over.

As for a 2 goal lead once we scored at the Nou Camp. It's irrelevant. No level headed Arsenal fan was expecting us to hold out Barca for nearly 40 mins with only 10 men.

The fact that you conceded three times is the problem here, not that you conceded.

If Tottenhams average (at best) defence can hold out AC Milan i thought Arsenals better defence would have been able to hold out Barca?

Can I say, as an Arsenal supporter and a Roar supporter, "God the HAL GF felt good!!!". To have lost games in three cups and 2-0 down in extra time, I thought I had cursed my teams.

So it's not my fault!

I just needed to say that :-)

As a supporter of Arsenal for more than 37 years, I've come to expect injuries killing us near the end of the season and then watch our prospects slide away. I continue to support them and accept "that's football". There would be no total elation, like I experienced in the GF yesterday, if it weren't for the bad times. Arsenal winning the premiership would be nice though.

It really is funny when you hear Arsenal fans saying Wenger should be sacked. Well as far as I'm concerned for all he's done for the club he deserves to leave under his own terms, and I think the board feels the same way.

I wouldn't call them fans. United get the same when we slip up, calling for Fergie's head. Not going to use the term of that type of fan again, we have gone over it and over it before but we all know what they are.

The funny thing most of them are fans, and most of them have been for 30-40 years. These are guys that were fans when we went 18 years without anything and now after 6 years they are calling for the head of the greatest manager in our history. It really is funny

It's a mixture, some I know personally and some are from what you hear on talk back radio in England. The vast majority of ones calling for Wengers head are from that generation that went through us not winning anything for 18 years

Also worth mentioning that Barca went through 6 years without a trophy while they were rebuilding their team, and relying on their youth products, and look where they are now.

I heard somewhere that Wenger produced a 5 year plan to rebuild Arsenal of 2005. As far as my maths is concerned he's in his last year. Sure Arsenal have been consistently up there but Wenger made a 5 year promise he has failed to deliver. Thats enough for most people to get up in arms, especially after the past 2 weeks.

Wenger is a tool who needs to shut his mouth but he is a good manager and I can't seen anyone doing a better job.

Gooner fans need to keep the faith, they're not that far off and to write them off this season would be idiotic.
