One thing I don't think many Arsenal fans realise is that, for us to spend so little in comparison to the rest of the teams at the top and to still be there or thereabouts most years is nothing short of a miracle.

Yes but what they do realise is that Arsenal is one of the only consistently top team in the last 5 years not to win a trophy.

I think to many thats most important. Sure your club isn't going anywhere and is the only club above mine in terms of finances but an efficient club is insignificant when trophies aren't being won.

This has made my year

This was a classic, "Hopefully, we'll keep doing better than them in the Champions League as well." How about you focus on holding onto 5th spot and European football next season

it really is just hilarious what one season in the Champions League has done to the players and fans:lol:

They beat AC Milan 1-0 over two legs, we beat them as European Champions 2-0 ;) :p

And I mean it's not like that lot wouldn't get battered against Barca in the Nou Camp either.

Also looks like they've got a struggle on their hands to make Europe again next season at all what with 5th becoming the last Europa League spot now.

I heard somewhere that Wenger produced a 5 year plan to rebuild Arsenal of 2005. As far as my maths is concerned he's in his last year. Sure Arsenal have been consistently up there but Wenger made a 5 year promise he has failed to deliver. Thats enough for most people to get up in arms, especially after the past 2 weeks.

Wenger is a tool who needs to shut his mouth but he is a good manager and I can't seen anyone doing a better job.

Well, he has certainly produced in "his plan" to bring youth through into the first team. He's achieved.

We all love to laugh at what the manager's say, Ferguson is at the top of my list. However I rate Ferguson as one of the best managers ever, regardless of what he says to the media. Ditto for Wenger.

Lehmann coy on Arsenal deal
Keeper to spend six weeks coaching at Emirates

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has not ruled out the possibility of signing a short-term contract with the club.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is considering bringing in goalkeeping cover after Wojciech Szczesny joined Lukasz Fabianski and Vito Mannone on the sidelines.

The injuries have left Manuel Almunia as Arsenal's only senior keeper and Lehmann has been linked with a return to Emirates Stadium.

Lehmann is due to spend six weeks at his old club to work on his coaching badges and was remaining coy on the possibility of being part of Wenger's squad.

"I am in London and so far have heard nothing of such plans, but you never know," Lehmann told Bild am Sonntag.

The 41-year-old spent five years with Arsenal and made almost 200 appearances for the club after his 2003 arrival from Borussia Dortmund.

He returned to the Bundesliga with Stuttgart in 2008 before the former Germany international called time on his playing career last summer.

So it seems that Jens is in talks with the club over a short term deal. I don't think any Gooner will complain about this, mainly because I don't know of a Gooner on this planet that doesn't love Crazy Jens.

Will be good for the dressing room having someone like him around. No nonsense, tough as fuck, and a real winning mentality.

I'm not expecting him to play a whole lot unless needed, but if he does I'd hate to be one of the 2 centrebacks. Can only be a good thing for the club imo.

Word is that Jens was Wenger's first and only option once Szczesny got injured.

Arsenal's goalkeeper crisis puts Lehmann in line for comeback

Arsenal are set to re-sign their former goalkeeper Jens Lehmann after injury has left Arsène Wenger without Lukasz Fabianski and Wojciech Szczesny. The manager is seeking an experienced alternative to Lehmann's former rival Manuel Almunia.

Lehmann was set to work at Arsenal for six weeks as part of his coaching badges and, like many former players, he remains in contact with the club. While he has not played since retiring last summer, he is to join Arsenal's squad as Wenger seeks cover.

The manager admitted last week that he was searching for an "emergency keeper" and that he had someone in mind, after losing his two first-choice goalkeepers to injury. Fabianski was ruled out for the rest of the season after shoulder surgery last month. His Polish compatriot, Szczesny, dislocated his finger saving a Dani Alves free-kick against Barcelona in the Nou Camp last week and will be out for the next six weeks.

These injuries have brought Almunia back into the Arsenal side. The Spaniard came on as a substitute in Barcelona and played the final 71 minutes of the game. Wenger praised him afterwards for his performance, saying that he "did very well", and describing him as having "a very professional and very dignified attitude". Almunia then played in the FA Cup defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday, only his fourth start of the calendar year.

Lehmann had five years at Arsenal, starting with the unbeaten "Invincibles" season of 2003/04, in which he played every League match. He also won the 2005 FA Cup at the club, Arsenal's last major trophy, saving from United's Paul Scholes in the deciding penalty shoot-out. Having lost his place to Almunia during 2007/08, he left at the end of the year and joined Stuttgart, where he played for two seasons before retiring last summer. Lehmann played 194 games for Arsenal and won 61 caps for Germany.

Wenger spoke warmly of Lehmann just last week, discussing his positive reaction to losing his place to Almunia, after the German was dropped in August 2007 following an error against Fulham. "When I took Lehmann out, who only made one mistake," Wenger said, "and put Almunia in, Lehmann came in the next day and fought even harder. That is what I believe our job is about."

A win-win situation if we do re-sign him. Just like Sol last season the experience he will add experience, a no-nonsense attidtude, he's tough as fuck and a real winning mentality. He probably won't play at all but just having him there will be a massive boost. The other thing is Manuel Almunia plays his best football with Lehmann there, probably because he's scared stiff of him

I don't think any Arsenal fan will be worried about re-signing Jens. People will say "Oh he hasn't played since last season". Well Sol had effectively not played since the season before and look how well he played, and Lehmann probably won't even play a minute

I haven't seen anything mentioned about Lehman other than Brit newspapers. Whilst someone of Lehman's character will definitely be a bonus, it's always hard to believe anything of this nature until it is listed on Arsenal's website. Fingers crossed though :)

The German newspaper Bild was reporting last night that it was a done deal. The Guardian who I tend to trust have said that he is in talks, and John Cross from the mirror, who's an Arsenal fan and usually right has said that Wenger isn't looking at a loan, and is looking for a free transfer which would make Lehmann the overwhelming favourite for that.

If we've wrapped up the title, or have lost it by the last game than I'd give him a run to clock up 200 games for Arsenal.

He'd still do a job anyway, like he only retired last season, so not like he's been out for ages. It's the effect off the pitch that will be the major bonus with him.

How about this for a fucking ridiculous stat. This season when Johan Djourou has been on the pitch we've conceded only 4 goals. That is just unbelievable. There's 3 games where he has played but not been on the pitch when we've conceded. Against Fulham he came on 2 minutes after Diomansy Camara scored, against Villa he came on in the last few mins and against Newcastle he came off before we collapsed.

For all the pundits who say we have a soft centre, this just proves them wrong. This is all without our best defender playing basically all season. With Vermaelen fit and starting with Djourou we have a CB pairing good enough to beat anybody, and don't need to buy a first choice cb, just a better back up than Squillaci.

Also Wenger and Nasri have both been handed one-match bans for the UCL by UEFA.
