No real surprise to see a whole new XI in this half.

Also no surprise to see no Denilson. Reports are that he is having a medical in Brazil on Monday, so wouldn't surprise me if he's back in London already.

Better performance in the 2nd half, Gibbs looked good, as did Theo and Ryo. I think at this stage our first choice CB pairing will be Vermaelen and Koscielny, unless we buy someone to partner Vermaelen. It's also scary just how good Jack and Aaron are playing together.

Arsene's comments about Mancini's comments about wanting to sign Nasri and hoping it's done by the end of the month. Quote:What we want is respect and we don't make these comments about players who are under contract at other clubs. While I can understand what Mancini was trying to say or where he was coming from, he went about it the wrong way. He wasn't trying to be disrespectful, but that's how it came off.

So yeah apparently we've signed young Costa Rican forward Joel Campbell on a 5 year deal for 930k.
Remains to be seen whether he will join up with the squad this year, he'll have to obtain a work permit and because he hasn't played enough international games we'll have to see whether he gets a special talent visa.

Hes only just short of the requirement, which is disappointing, but i think he'll be good. I wonder how he goes on the left wing
The Lukaku brothers continue to be linked with Arsenal, they are looking good.

Makes sense. Sao Paulo is a sideways move for his career, something Denilson is extremely good at.

So we've finally officially completed the Gervinho signing Quote: Gervinho completes his move to Arsenal Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that Ivory Coast international forward Gervinho has finalised his switch to the Gunners, joining the Club on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee. Gervinho, 24, arrives at Arsenal from French side Lille, with the paperwork surrounding his move now approved. The Ivorian helped Lille to a Ligue 1 and Coupe de France double last season, scoring 18 goals in 49 games in all competitions. The campaign capped a very successful two years for Gervinho, during which time he netted 36 times in his 93 appearances for Les Gogues. Before joining Lille, Gervinho enjoyed two seasons with Le Mans, also in Ligue 1. On the international stage, Gervinho captained the Ivory Coast in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and also represented his country at the 2010 World Cup, scoring twice in just three substitute appearances during qualification to the finals. To date, Gervinho has made 27 appearances in total for Les Eléphants, scoring six goals. The forward, who came through the same Ivorian youth academy - ASEC Mimosas - as Emmanuel Eboue, before following in the right-back’s footsteps to join Belgian side KSK Beveren, will immediately join up with his new team mates for pre-season training. Manager Arsène Wenger said: “Gervinho is a player that can play in a number of positions up front. He can play on the right, on the left and through the middle. He has qualities that I find very important, like his movement off the ball. He has the qualities we like technically. He is good one against one, he is strong and was the best provider in the French league with assists and he scored 15 goals. I think he is a very good addition to the squad.” After completing his move to the Gunners, Gervinho said: “It’s a great feeling to be an Arsenal player. I’m very happy. I’ve always dreamed to play for this Club. I’ve achieved this dream now and I am so happy. It’s one of the most beautiful days of my life. “I’m very happy to have the chance to work with Arsène Wenger. I came here because I believe that he can improve my game and help me reach another level, but the most important thing for me is that I bring a lot to the team for whom I’m playing.” http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/gervinho-completes-his-move-to-arsenal Edited by sydneycroatia58: 18/7/2011 07:17:43 PM

Im not entirely sure why we have signed another striker, consider we play with 1 upfront. I would rather see some defenders brought in first. Nonetheless i hope he does well and proves to be a good signing.

Well he's not a striker he;s a winger who can play on either side. It will probably mean Walcott moving into the middle sooner rather than later, and also helps if Nasri leaves.
As for defenders, if we do buy any we will only be buying one central defender that's all, and that's all we need defensively tbph.

So Joel Campbells father has said that his son will be having a medical tonight. He also confirmed that we will lodge an application for a special talent visa, but that and the conclusion of the deal will probably happen after the U20 World Cup.

That is probably what will happen because Wenger is Wenger but surely you could do with a starting CB and a decent back up (Koscielny and Squillaci are not) and a reliable replacement for Clichy. It is Arsenal's weakest part of the pitch, surely it would make sense to strengthen. Edited by busbybabe: 19/7/2011 09:07:20 AM

Nah, Traore and Gibbs will fight it out to be first choice with Vermaelen as a back up. They both have been at the club for a while and deserve their shot. If they dont take it then sure we should get someone in. We need a Cb back thats not afraid to put is body on the line and be physically competitive. Maybe another more experienced keeper to push the Polish keepers if Almunia goes, maybe

They need to strengthen their back 4, I don't see Traore and Gibbs adding much to a shaky defense.

People said that about clichy when Cole left, was he as good? No, but he did a job. I think as it stands we have bigger fish to fry. Traore has looked solid in the friendlies so far, hopefully he picked up some defensive nous while in Italy. We also have a couple of other options coming through the ranks

Koscielny is a more than good enough back up, I don't know where people get this idea that he isn't. As for a LB, Wenger will be giving Gibbs a go there. People will say "oh he's not ready" "He's not good enough", But that's exactly what people said when Ashley Cole took over from Sylvinho and when Clichy took over from Cole. I'd rather buy a replacement, but nothing I can do about it. In the end I think we will buy one more defender, and another midfielder. Edited by sydneycroatia58: 19/7/2011 12:44:29 PM

I remember him copping so much shit last season after every game. I remember after the Carling Cup final. Classic example of fans backing their players lol.
