I love all this speculation about what happened in these talks when no one actually knows what the fuck went on. Hell, we don't even know 100% that there was a meeting  There were some people seriously expecting Robin to have already signed a new deal and were actually angry and upset when it wasn't announced

Apparently Wengers house was bugged by the media judging by the amount of detail they have on this meeting

Goal.com wrote:
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is to undergo a new procedure to correct a knee problem that has flared up during his rehabilitation.

Wilshere has missed the entirety of the 2011-12 season due to an injury to his right ankle and will now face further treatment for an issue Arsenal describe as "long-standing".

The "slight issue" relates to Wilshere's patella tendon in his left knee, but is not expected to have a significant impact on his ability to return to training in time for next season.

The England midfielder will travel to Sweden in the next few days for the procedure, before continuing his rehabilitation at Arsenal over the summer.

Wilshere established himself as an integral member of the Gunners' team during the 2010-11 season, making 49 appearances in all competitions despite being just 18 years of age at the beginning of the campaign.

His long spell on the sidelines stalled his progress, however, and ruled him out of the England squad for Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine.

It had been hoped that Wilshere could be involved in Great Britain's team for the 2012 London Olympics this summer, but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger revealed that the playmaker may not even be fit for the start of the club's pre-season training in July.

Just hope hes fit for the start of next season. Our lack of depth last year really got to him. If he can overcome this hurdle (which we know he will) I can see him as the successor to RVP with the captains armband.

Still a few years before Jack becomes captain. It'll most likely be TV after Robin.

True, just think Jack has what it takes, and can see Wenger 'doing a fab'.

I don't really see us keeping RVP tbh. Can't compete with Citeh wages.

Tbh, I'm pretty much resigned to the fact we're gonna lose him, either this summer or next. All of sudden I've lost all the confidence I had that he would sign. The signs aren't looking good anymore.

And I'm really worried about Jack too, no player can get back to the level he was playing at (at least not for a while anyway) after such a lengthy layoff. Basically, with all these high profile departures we've had in recent years with Henry and Cesc, we had that player you could look to and say, "now that such and such is gone, we've still got this world class player in such and such". When Henry left, we still had that world class player in Cesc, when he left, we had Van Persie. But now when Robin leaves it's hard to see that world class player we've got left that can walk into any Premier League team. Many will see that in Jack, that's a lot of pressure to put on a player in Jack's current situation, A) well he's injured, and B) he's still very young, hasn't reached his full potential yet and is coming back from a year out on the sidelines.

 my thoughts entirely

When will we get that Uzbek in to give us lots of money so we can actually have some ambition for a change? I'm sick of 3rd-4th place. We're the Arsenal; we're supposed to be a big club.

 S apparently we've slapped a media ban on Van Persie while he's with Holland. No surprises there and probably the right move. We did it with Cesc at the WC in 2010 as well IIRC.

As for this whole Robin situation, his best option may be to sign at the very least a 1 year extension. Because I can't see the club selling him this summer and if he doesn't sign a new deal he'll be putting this 'last big contract' that everyone keeps talking about, at risk. I can't see him having another season like he had this year and with his injury history and his age I can't see many clubs offering him a big deal next summer unless he has another crazy season.

So doom and gloon. Unfortunatly I find it hard to disagree though.
Especially about Jack. People are going to expect too much from him, this could stint him not just in the short term but possibly stop him from reaching the full potential that he had before.

On the bright side, We have Podolski and hopefully M'Vila coming in with or without losing Robin who are both special players in their own right. If Robin leaves I would expect another decent replacement ontop of that... I hope.

One possibility is that Wenger is just waiting out the financial fair play rules. (If they work as intended) they will reduce the worth of top players. From an economic perspective it would be very stupid to buy top players right before a price drop (not to mention smart to sell).
So in many ways it would make more sense for him to start spending up only once FFP is in effect while just keeping in the top 4 on a tight budget until then.

Fabianski's come out and said he wants to leave this summer. Once he's gone you suddenly realise, we don't have much in the way of back-up keepers. Anyone else forgot we still had Almunia on our books? I'd imagine he'll probably be off in one way or another too.

I think we always knew Fabianski would want to leave this summer, understandable really. As for Almunia he's off contract this summer so no need to worry about him. That'll leave us with Szczesny, Mannone and Martinez as first team GK's. If Fabianski does leave Arsene will go and get a back up for Wojciech, preferably an experienced one.

Fucking Patrick Vieira. From all the shit he does and says you would think he was a Spurs legend instead of an Arsenal one and still has it in for us.
He's allegedly trying to sway M'Villa over to City instead of Arsenal now just like he was with Hazard a year ago when we were in for him. Also now saying he thinks we might lose all of our stars not just Van Persie.
Not to mention going out of his way to persuade Nasri to leave.
Ruining my memories of him big time.

People really need to get over Viera. He's a fucking City employee, his loyalty lies with them and no one else. Of course he's going to try and sway players to City, what else were people expecting?

For him to not be a City employee in the first place.. :P
He would have been welcomed back to Arsenal with open arms for a similar role, in fact you would have expected it. But he chose City for the higher wage. I don't see it as being very dissimilar to someone like Cole or Nasri leaving for similar reasons and then proceeding to fuck with their former club.
You have to admit it is ridiculous that every single City transfer that he's reportedly been involved with has been either an Arsenal target or an Arsenal player.

Viera:
"But if they keep Robin they're going to send a positive message to all the clubs and to all the people around. It's really important to keep him. They should have settled this a long time ago, but Arsenal don’t need me to tell them that. That’s the way it is and they will have to deal with it. There's still a year, he's not gone yet.”

“Arsenal has qualified for the Champions League again but it's not enough. I'm sure that if you ask Arsene he'll say, ‘of course it's not enough’. All the people at the football club will tell you it's not enough.

“They've been quite close [to winning trophies] for quite a long time. They've got a lot of young players so over the years they can get experience and they're going to be better players. The first step is to keep all the quality players and the talent.”

Tut tut tut... headlines and all that lads; I'm not having any Anti-Vieira sentiment here.

I agree with most of what he said too.
What spurred me to post is him pushing City to move for all of our big transfer targets and best performing attainable players. Frustrating if nothing else.

So Gooner mentioned before about Fabianski wanting to leave and what that would do to our GK stocks. Just noticed Craig Gordon has been released by Sunderland. May be worth a go simply because he's on a free.

One thing's for sure Jack Wilshere is losing a huge amount of respect amongst Arsenal fans and Ian Wright is now officially dead to a lot of gooners, me included.
