Yeah, how would purchasing two strikers and keeping Chamakh and co during intense speculation over RVP's future possibly point to RVP leaving? I've no idea... *ahem* Bye bye Robin!

Bye bye Robin! See this to me makes no sense. First of all, one of those strikers has been bought to play on the left so has no bearing on RvP. Second, Vela is already in discussions with clubs in Spain, and it's well known Bendtner wants to and probably will leave. And one of Chamakh or Park will be leaving, I'd say Park. That'd leave us with Robin, Giroud, Chamakh/Park as the 3 main choices for the CF position. So yeah I don't really see how us buying Giroud automatically means Robin is leaving, we've always said we needed quality back up for him, and now we have it.

Exactly, this signing has more to do with Bendtner, Park, Vela and Chamakh leaving/not being adequate back ups than it does about Robin leaving.

I like it. Sleeves might have been better with a more consistent pattern though. Have we ever had a purple kit before? I don't think we have.

If one of them failed to live up to expectations then maybe in a later transfer window.

Don't forget going into a season with just three strikers is exactly what we did this season :P And two of them were Park and Chamakh! Yeah if Podolski kept playing on the left which is relatively likely I suppose we would see another striker. Probably not the world class RVP replacement we would be hoping for though.

Arsenal.com wrote: Arsenal set to face Nigerian national team
Arsenal Football Club is delighted to confirm that the Nigeria national team will be the Club’s opposition for their pre-season friendly match in Abuja on Sunday, August 5. Arsène Wenger’s team will face the Super Eagles in the National Stadium, with a confirmed kick-off time of 4pm local time. Tickets details will be announced on Wednesday, July 4 and will appear on Arsenal.com. The Club last visited Africa during a tour to South Africa in July 1993, and is returning as a result of the fantastic support which exists for the team, not only in Nigeria, but across the entire continent. The visit to Nigeria will conclude an exciting pre-season tour schedule for Arsenal, who return to both China and Malaysia in July, following the success of last term’s Asia Tour. The Asia leg starts in Kuala Lumpur, where the team will face a Malaysia XI on Tuesday, July 24. The Gunners then travel to China for a match against Manchester City in Beijing on Friday, July 27, followed by a trip to Hong Kong to play Kitchee FC on Sunday, July 29. All developments and updates regarding Arsenal’s pre-season activities will feature on Arsenal.com.

A 3 game Melb/Syd/Bris tour sounds better to me. I'm sure some shifty promoter would love to bleed us dry.

So we're going into this season with 5 strikers? :/ Do we even have the spots in the squad for that? Where's the talk of Chamakh and Park leaving, Chamakh has been pretty much confirmed as staying and there's no talk of Park at all.

I wouldn't worry Ken. There's ages left in the window for things to happen, I'll be very, very shocked if we keep all four of Chamakh, Park, Bendtner and Vela. Quote:Chamakh has been pretty much confirmed as staying Says who?

Yeah, with Vela already in discussions with other clubs, and Bendtner will be much the same soon, I'd say it's a pretty safe bet we don't go into the season with 5 strikers. As for the stuff about Park, all that came back up again with Giroud apparently taking Park's squad number. Speaking of Park, he's been selected as an over-age player in South Korea's Olympic squad.

Been hearing a few murmurs that Wenger has cancelled the deal for M'Vila due to an apparent temperament issue. Also been hearing that the deal was only worth 7.5mil.
If this is true, if....... Would easily be one of the most stupid things we have ever done.

Those murmurs have been around for ages, and would not surprise me one bit. Arsene is very put off by players with a bad attitude, unless he can get them in cheap. And the fact that M'vila is possibly getting banned for 4 or so games from the French national team wouldn't have helped.

Not sure if all the rvp quotes going around atm are legit, but if they are, it doesn't sound too good.

So I guess it's now time to start thinking about who our new captain will be, again.
Obviously it'll go to TV, and that's fair enough he's vice captain and one of the senior figures at the club and did not long ago commit his future to the club. But I would love for someone like Sagna to get it.

I never did sound right that Wenger would spend that sort of money on Giroud and have him as back up.

So, do we chase a replacement? Do we sign a new AM/ST? Who will be our next captain? Will Walcott sign a new contract? Interesting times ahead for AFC.
