The Guardian reporting that we have lodged a 16m bid for Cazorla and are still very confident of signing Sahin on loan.

I would really love to know what RvP thinks of our ambition if we managed to sign both Cazorla and Sahin

What I don't get is we conceeded our most goals in epl and yet still don't have any personnel change in defence, gk or dmc?

We will always be capable of scoring but clean sheets - and heaps of them - will be the difference between a good season and a great one. Back in 06 we kept a record 10 consecutive CL clean sheets now we look capable of being scored against every time a team counter attacks us.

I'd say any new defensive signings would depend on departures, particularly if Djourou leaves, but I don't think he will.

As for GK, would be very very surprised if we saw any change there, and if there is it'll only be to buy another 2nd or 3rd choice keeper

So how does this clear oversight sit with you sydcro...? Another season of blaming arshavin/chamakh for missing chances when our defence continues to leak goals. The only pleasing thing abt our defence last season was we weren't too bad on set pieces but wba, swansea, norwich, utd everyone were able to pick us off on the counter attack.

That's where bouldy comes in. He is now making our defenders work harder and not have our cb's further than rvp (tv5) Wenger has wisely woken up to the fact we were getting scored against when our cb's were up the pitch whilst. Our fullbacks had to cover

Not too mention the fact that we struggled to field a consistent back four. When we did, we did look much stronger. Just have to hope that we are not as unlucky with injuries as we were last year.

I think a big part of our problem with counter attacks was our midfield. Song was a big part of the amount of counter attacks we were caught out by. That's why a lot of people want someone like M'Vila who will come in and actually sit in front of the back 4 and protect them.

I don't think there's anything wrong with our defence in terms of personnel, but you're only as good as the protection in front of you, and far to often last season that protection was non-existant

This is also a big part of it. I mean we had 19 different back 4 combinations last season which is just insane. Any defence is going to struggle when you have so much chopping and changing and no real time to build up any sort of fluidity.

If you take away the freak scoreline against United then our goals conceded record isn't all that disimilar to the last 3 seasons. The injury crisis didn't help either, god knows how many different back 4 combinations we were forced to try last season (EDIT: 19 actually as Sydcro pointed out, Jeez, that's fucking ridiculous). When we did have our first choice back 4 we were relatively solid. There's really not all that much we can do to strengthen the defence.

Starting XI against Kitchee: Szczesny, Djourou (c), Miquel, Eastmond, Gibbs, Diaby, Coquelin, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott, Ryo, Chamakh.

AC Milan, Galatasaray and Celta Vigo have all been linked with Bendtner but other than that talk of outgoing transfers (excluding RVP of course) seems to have gone cold.

I'd say it'd be Chamakh upfront, Theo right and Ryo left. Ox has played in CM every game this tour.
