Although I know we probably won't sign someone to replace RVP, who is actually available or affordable for us to go after?

Diaby being Diaby, Wilshere out for god knows how long and Songs situation still on going, I think it was a signing we needed for some breathing room. Also Mirallas looks like its not happening either.

Song, Arteta, Ramsey, Coquelin, Rosicky, Cazorla, Chamberlain and that's before adding Diaby and Jack.

Exactly
No I'm not angry, Sahin is quality and I thought he could make a difference for us, particularly if song wants to go. Artetas quality, I think Le Coq will get a lot of time at rb, Ramsey and rosicky run hot and cold, cazorla I assumed would play in more advanced role but maybe he will be deeper and I don't want to over work ox

The sad thing about all this is that, Piers Morgan is a hardcore Arsenal fan.....

"We already recruited to replace him," claimed Wenger on French TV station TF1. "We have already recruited since we bought Giroud and Podolski, who originally were intended to offset the departure of Van Persie." Wenger on the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19280162We were all a bit suspicious in the first place, now we know it's just same old Arsenal. RVP gone to offset the costs.

Yeah I think we've only spent about 8 million pounds this window on aggregate. With a few of Bendter, Arshavin, Squillacci etc still likely to be sold we might end up in the green
Still very excited and optimistic about this season though. The only thing that could dampen my spirits would be losing Song or Walcott.

Basically, when he was editor of the mirror he was involved in printing lies about 35 Arsenal fans, who he and the paper accused of being involved in violence in Copenhagen between Arsenal and Galatasray fans in 2000. These people were branded as thugs and violent hooligans, lost their jobs and were banned from Arsenal for life. While he later admitted the Mirror got it wrong, he and the paper never did anything about getting these people their jobs back, nothing to help remove the stain they put on their lives and nothing to help them get the ban from Arsenal lifted.

I'd be surprised if he did. I think Podolski may get it. Would explain why when the club released the squad numbers a couple of weeks ago Poldi's number was TBA.

Edited by Hinderz: 17/8/2012 12:31:47 AM I'm just going on what I've seen this pre-season, but it seems Arsene will be playing Ox in a central role a fair bit. Obviously he wouldn't be first choice there, but the idea seems to be to move him into a role there sooner rather than later. Cazorla, I think, will be used in a more advanced role, I was more just saying he is an option in a deeper role. Played very well there against Koln. Him and Ox in the midfield would be very interesting, one would be advanced and they would be constantly swapping. Worked really well against Koln.

Yeah, selling Song would definitely be a dampener on any optimism, but only if we don't buy a replacement imo. If we sold him and brought in M'Vila or Capoue I wouldn't be overly upset. Theo I don't think will leave, pretty confident he will sign a new deal and all signs point toward that.

Interesting stat about RvP.
Our win % with and without him in the last 5 seasons - With 53%, Without 60% The last 4 seasons - With 51%, Without 60% The last 3 seasons - With 54%, Without 57% The last 2 seasons - With 52%, Without 55%
Some more stats about this weekend
We are unbeaten in our last 11 opening day fixtures and have never lost an opening day home fixture while Arsene has been manager. The last time we lost an opening day fixture at home was in 1993 against Coventry.

Fantasy EPL problem. Is Walcott going to play? They have him as doubtful.

I get the feeling he's only down as doubtful because he missed the England match, and he only missed it with a "bruised thigh" so he should be recovered by now I'd think.

Seems extremely cheap for a british 21 year old, He did play a good portion of the season with Rangers last year so he can't be that terrible can he. Is it just me or is this pick from his wiki page really weird like he is sucking on the persons finger

Congratulations to TV5, who becomes the latest captain of Arsenal. Lets just hope that the combination of Steve Bould and the responsibility keeps him in his own half this season :D
Arteta as vice-captain. Great choice IMO. Would of had him as captain over anyone else in our team (bar TV5 of course).
In match related news, Walcott and Cazorla will have tests before the game. Koscielny and Oxlade are out.

Theo and Santi should be fit. Dissapointing that Koscielny is out but it's nothing serious so that's good.
In other news Jack Wilshere has indeed taken the #10. Poldi has taken the #9 with Park moving to the #30 and Santi has taken the #19
