Giroud needs to start against Stoke- Podolski wont be able to lead the line upfront by himself against them. Did anybody else notice how deep Podolski was dropping last night? Numerous times he was just inside our attacking half, instead of leading the line upfront.

Gervinho was great aswell in my opinion. Besides from Cazorla, he was the only one looking like he could create something.

M'Vila is as good if not better than Song, and is better defensively in fact, and would probably cost 15m or less.

I may be wrong but I swear I remember reading a post by you when the RVP to Man Utd heated up that didnt matter as long as it wasn't Song because he was irreplaceable. If I didnt have a life Id try find it

 On 2nd thought I may have so I think I need to get my head checked. But I think it was when RvP's statement first came out, in which case I'll chalk it up to my anger with RvP, because Song is most certainly not irreplaceable and was most definitely not more important than Robin. Also, Song became much more replaceable once the rumours about him and his agent came out.

Tbh when that RvP statement came out I would've said just about any player was more important than him

Guess then Almunia is irreplaceable compared to RVP ;)

At the time of the statement, yes

So why haven't we gotten him yet? We've agreed terms about six times in three months. I think Song is underrated by gooners personally; a good footballer with a lot to give defensively and the technical ability to provide an attacking threat from deep.

M'Vila is good defensively but wont give you anywhere near the amount of attacking output.

Fact of the matter is, all Gooners at the back end of last season talked about how Song and RVP were your 2 best players (or at least both in top 3. Now they're both gone.

I don't really worry about the attacking output, we don't need that from a Song replacement. Would much rather we get a midfielder who's going to focus on the defensive side of the game than trying to play hollywood through balls every 5 mins.

No, they weren't our 2 best players. Robin was our best, but Song was our 4th best behind both Koscielny and Arteta.

We haven't got him because we had Song. I expect us to now go out and sign another midfielder. I would like it to be M'vila, have a sneaky feeling it will be, but obviously a chance it's not.

Song isn't underrated, he's rated exactly where he should be, a good player who is good both in attack and defence, but a player who, by all reports, has a pathetic attitude. While he is good, he's a player who won't be impossible to replace like a Cesc.

It's one game in and we can make a couple of conclusions already...

Cazorla is gonna be the main spark to our forward play and if opponents sit all over him like Cattermole then we will struggle to score...
We will be tighter defensively this season especially if we cab replace Song with a genuine dmc - a makelele-type who has no interest in scoring himself.
Giroud is gonna score a truck load if he gets more match time... he had more involvement on goals than poldi. He might have missed his one obvious chance but I don't recall poldi getting any shots in (except his poor free kick effort).

Bingo. It doesn't get simpler then that.

We won't be spending until January as confirmed by Wenger when he spoke how we have "enough midfielders even without Song". There has been NO talk about M'Vila, some about Sahin.

That was after the match yesterday and after the announcement of the sale of Song. I don't see anything about not spending until January in there. I'm not saying we 100% will buy another midfielder, but the club is definitely still in the market, and definitely in for another midfielder. Would like to see them go after Sahin and get it done this week if we could.

Just seen the Giroud sitter, and ok it was a really bad miss, should've scored. But the way some people reacted saying "Oh RvP would've scored that no worries" have obviously never seen the countless times RvP would miss a sitter with his right foot

We might not be better off individually with M'vila instead of Song, but we will be by far a better team with M'Vila. And also, i dont think we will miss his ability to create. Having M'Vila will give Arteta more license to start playing the creative football we know he can, and this year we actually have a genuine world class playmaker in Cazorla as apposed to Ramsey last year.

We are better off without Song, on and off the field.

We're the Arsenal. We've done our spending. I very much doubt we get M'vila.

RVP would've missed that? Now that's just bitterness blinding the obvious.

To be fair at Alex Song I'd have a whinge if was on lower wages than Diaby, Chamakh and Arshavin, when they couldnt get in the time and I was one of the first names on the team sheet. Song's a awesome player on a upward trend and I'm disappointed to lose him, but if he's causing problems and we can replace him then I have no issues with the decision. I'd rather see Arsene stamp his authority on the squad.

You say that like RvP never missed a sitter. 2nd leg against Milan last year ring any bells? 10 times easier chance then Giroud's last night and he Robin missed it on his stronger foot= unlike Giroud who missed it on his weaker foot.

I didn't say RvP would've missed that particular chance that Giroud missed, just pointing out that RvP missed his fair share of sitters.

But considering his record of virtually a 'goal a game', his uncanny ability to create a goal from nothing and the situation where we found ourselves struggling to break down a side; RVP would've scored at some point in those 90 minutes or at least some point in the next.

Poldi + Giroud = not quite RVP. We missed him.

Cazorla yes. Song is better than the other two.

Arteta was better and much more important than Song last season. All you have to do is look at how utterly pathetic we were without Arteta last season.

Jack the season before last was also much better than Song.

Never said he wasn't close, just that the other 3 are better, not by a lot, but better.

Yes Cazorla and Song are totally different players, yet Cazorla gets through roughly the same amount of defensive work while also being much better attacking wise.

Fuck me if Jack Wilshere leaves next week we'll all be going on about how we all thought he was shite anyway.

Let's be honest, we've lost a great footballer in Alex Song. I'm not going to defend the club if they make a bad error in judgment.
