Actually I retract my last statement, the most frustrating thing tonight was just how much Chelsea were there for the taking, they were just as horrible as we were. I mean did Mannone have a save to make apart from the 2 goals.

I agree sydcro, Chelsea were rubbish. I'm pretty sure all Mannone did for the whole game is pick the ball up from the back of the net.
Gervinho is so frustrating. I'm pretty sure one of the first things you learn in football is to get your head up. Maybe he missed that part. Good goal though
Just didnt feel like we turned up today.there was that 10 minutes or whatever it was after we scored when it looked like we were right up for it but for the rest it was just lethargic.

 I've calmed down so much since FT, to tired to give a fuck at the moment. It's frustrating, but oh well, still early in the season, still a very long way to go.

jlm8695 wrote:Yeah so disappointed that we had no drive that game, no incision. Gibbs and Ox were our best by far. Not going to slate Giroud for that miss, it was the most difficult opportunity he has had so far.
Fuck Gervinho seriously. Yeah yeah he scored a goal idgaf, he really adds nothing to our play. No vision, and runs in circles. Giroud needs to start ahead of him. Spot on mate. I am sick and tired of both Ramsey and Gervinho starting and the thing that pissed me off even more was the fact Wenger took off Podolski who is out best finisher, can assist and set up goals better then most in the team, and the one thing he has that no other Arsenal forward has is the ability to get back and defend and yet Wenger takes him off for and leaves Gervinho on who did nothing all game apart from the goal he scored and the nice set up for Carzola at the end. Just two good things in 90 minutes and a shit load of mistakes each time he got on the ball. As for Giroud i am sick of people being shocked that he hasnt scored yet. Yes he has missed about 4 easy chances so far this season but thats in all games the guy hasnt been on the field for 90 minutes which is the problem. He still has the confidence to shoot which i like and i think he will come good but Wenger needs to start him and give him a few full games or atleast the first 75 mins and then judge him if he still cant score. Just frustrating to lose the game because of two stupid mistakes from two set pieces.

Podolski was completely and utterly anonymous today. No surprise at all he was taken off.
Feel really sorry for Giroud. The way he's being criticised is ridiculous. What exactly are people expecting when the guy gets hardly any game time. He's not some clinical striker who's going to put away every chance he gets. He needs regular game time, and will get goals when given that.

Anyone looking for a silver lining here it is. We have already got Stoke, Liverpool and City away out of the way plus one game against Chelsea. That's some big games out of the way already.

Podolski was quiet but everything he did he did well. The guy is class all round and has so much experience he shouldn't be going off unless injured,so clearly tired that its obvious,or if we are winning and take him off to give someone else a go but not when chasing a game.

Arsene wrote:on the performance... I feel we played against a good team, but we gave the game away. They had three shots on target and scored two goals, from soft set-pieces. Defensively we were just not at the level you have to be in a game like that, which is where we were punished today. For the rest, we have shown quality and spirit but we have to show more personality and authority on the goals we conceded.
on leaving Mertesacker on the bench... That is a decision which was based on the opposition we played. You can say it was a wrong one maybe, but I believe [that statement] is a lowering the quality of the players who played, they are internationals. If you do not play Koscielny or Vermaelen and cannot win the game, you will ask me the same question.
on Chelsea's first goal... We did not attack the ball, on either goal. The difference between Chelsea on set-pieces and us was the way they were in the air - it was obvious today.
on Arsenal's mentality... I would not say that, it is just on the day when you play at home you do not expect to concede two set pieces. That puts us every time on the back foot. We played two big games in a week, and it is difficult. Every time you are behind in a big game you have 65 per cent of chances to win the game. We came back last week and did so again today, but then straight away gave away another goal again. It is impossible because you have to take all the risks and open yourself up. You play against good players and they can hit you on the counter-attack. That is where we were not at the level.
on Giroud's chance at the end... It was a top chance, and Cech kept them in the game as well on many occasions. he had an outstanding game.
on John Terry being allowed to play... Yes, I had no problem. I do not want to interfere in that, I expected him to play. If the rules allow it why not?
on a possible over-reaction to the defeat... Yes, maybe, but we have to deal with that. I can completely understand people's opinion, what is important is the personality you show in a big game. That is where is some areas we were not at the level today.
on rotating central defenders... Nobody can play all the games, it is simple.
on being 16 years in charge... I never look back, I always look forward. I looked at today's game and look at the next game. It is not easy, it is never easy. We now go into a very important run before we play United away. In the league we have West Ham(Away), Norwich (Away), QPR(Home). Really, we need 9 points in those before we go to Old Trafford, and if all goes well should get those 9 points. Also 2 Champions League games in there as well against Olympiakos at home and Schalke away as well as a League Cup game away against Reading. Edited by sydneycroatia58: 30/9/2012 10:06:20 AM

I had no problem with Wenger rotating Mertesacker and Koscielny especially with the League Cup and Champions League games being played midweek.

Quote: John Terry's prehistoric language falls on some deaf ears, at least John Terry has become accustomed to being shunned by his fellow professionals during the pre-match handshakes, what with Wayne Bridge and Anton Ferdinand having pointedly ignored protocol when confronted by the Chelsea captain in recent times. But before Terry's first match since being found guilty by an FA independent regulatory commission of using racially abusive language towards Ferdinand, Arsenal players did not bother snubbing the ex-England international. Nonetheless, one creature did still feel like registering his disdain: the Arsenal mascot Gunnersaurus extended his paw to Terry as the teams lined up before the game and then, as Terry went to shake it, pulled it back in, leaving Terry's hand dangling in the air – although Gunnersaurus had shaken Terry's hand earlier, when Chelsea arrived. It says something when even dinosaurs deem your language unacceptable. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/sep/29/john-terry-handshake-arsenal-chelsea?cat=football&type=article As if I couldn't love Gunnersaurus anymore

Worth saying happy anniversary to Arsene, 16 years in charge today.
Amazing stat, even if he lost his next 100 games as Arsenal manager he would still have the greatest win% of any Arsenal manager in history.

Quite funny to see both Harry and Jamie Redknapp, speaking very fondly of Arsenal ever since Harry left Sp*rs  Harry Redknapp wrote:Cazorla is a superb footballer and I think Arsenal have got a real diamond. However much they got for Cesc Fabregas, £40 million or whatever it was, they have managed to replace him for less than half the money.
I am a huge fan of Cesc, but I honestly don’t think there is anything between the two of them. They’re both top Spanish internationals — and Cazorla will be a truly great signing for the Gunners. Probably the best one any side made this summer, in my opinion Edited by sydneycroatia58: 2/10/2012 10:05:06 AM

Norwich look a shadow of the side they were last season and we should be beating QPR at home no question. So really, in those 3 games 9 points should be the aim, but I won't be to upset with 7. That seems about right. Arteta in for Rambo if Miki is fit and I get the feeling Per may be brought in for Kos.

'arry used to be a Highbury regular apparently. I'd like to see Santi given a break sometime. He's only a small Spaniard in his first season in English football, it could well take its toll later in the season.

Wouldn't surprise me at all. I remember someone saying how they'd spoken to Jamie once and how he is actually very fond of Arsenal just felt he always had to be hard against us while his dad was at Sp*rs

Not great but it will do, 4-6-0 isn't working out 100% with Gevinho we lacked penetration in the first half. Gerv was bright though and did well overall. Everyone fairly solid apart from some loose passes. TV looked well off the pace in the first half, gave the ball away in dangerous positions. Kos was lucky not to get sent off. Again, we've conceded when the ball is pumped into the box. We really need to sort that out and beat strikers to the ball in the air. Giroud really needs some luck at the moment, I think the whole ground felt sorry for him in his cameo!

I think Mertesacker will be back in the team this weekend, well at least I think he has to be. We are so much more solid with him in there. Good to see Gervinho continue his good form, can only be good for his confidence going forward.
Honestly don't know what Giroud has to do to get some luck but just keep doing what he's doing.
Also dictators of the world watch out, Aaron Ramsey scored a goal.
One thing's for sure, I think Giroud has to be play this weekend against West Ham, both for what he offers up top and the help he gives defensively at set pieces now with Diaby out.

Also good to get the win with Schalke and Montpellier drawing. Gives us that little bit of breathing room at the top ahead of Schalke at the Emirates in a few weeks.
