Positives:

The 2nd half.

Yeah I'm out, need to go to bed before the happiness from WSW's win wears off and turns into Arsenal depression.

Our record against the big boys who can actually challenge for the title says everything about where we are at as a team at the moment-
Man C 1-1 AFC
AFC 1-2 Chels
Man U 2-1 AFC
AFC 0-2 Man C
Chels 2-1 AFC

P5 W0 D1 L4 F4 A9 Pts1 (from possible 15)

The disparity in class is there for all to see. We're like an Aston Villa side in red when they had Martin O'Neill. This season may well have been our transition from challengers to mid-table similar to Liverpool a few years ago.

Excuse my ignorance, but was the referee entitled to send Wojciech Szczesny off last night? Or as a keeper, does he get away with rugby-esque tackles? It wasn't all too dissimilar to Konscielny's tackle (Literally )

Hard to excuse your ignorance when I'm watching it right now in slow motion and Wojciech doesn't even touch him. Ramires slipped. Not even a penalty let alone a red card.

How was it a rugby tackle? Was I watching a different game?

There could be a case for a sending off as he was the last man and prevented a goalscoring opportunity but arguably that would be harsh as there was a few defenders in and around the challenge.

I thought it was a penalty first and foremost even if replays show otherwise. You have to give those and we all thought penalty on first instance.

It wasn't a penalty, but if the referee thinks it's a foul he has to send him off there. Don't quite know what he was doing giving only a yellow.

It's not a liked rule in England and it isn't the first time I've seen English referees be a bit lenient in Chesney's situation. I don't like the last man rule either. By the letter of the law he should be gone but I think us English like to believe we know our game better than the people who actually make the rules (who incidentally, are largely British).

Sounds like Benelsmore's thinking of the Diaby tackle in the early minutes of the game, that was like the Koscielny one :?

I didn't, I was screaming at the TV. I called it the moment I saw it, the way Ramires fell over just didn't look right in relation to the way Szczesny's leg came in when I saw it live. I was absolutely convinced Ramires had just slipped and the replays just confirmed that.

But I agree with Sydcro, it's one of those ones where if you are going to give the foul, you probably have to send him off too.

I am serious about the 'penalty' having a dig about the way he 'tackled him.' I too thought it was a red card, if the contact that 'occurred' actually did. Jesus, I didn't know the others were so sore about it.

Thanks for clearing it up though Sydcro. Maybe the ref felt it was a soft penalty so decided to only fuck you guys over once? I've only seen it once and to a ref it could have looked a lot worse than it was.

Saw this on soccernet
Quote:
Per Mertesacker has been revealed as Arsene Wenger's debt collector in chief at Arsenal after a breach of training ground security that infuriated the Gunners manager.

Per Mertesacker: Debt collector
• Blog: Arsenal: A team of one half
• Delaney: Gunners caught cold

Wenger was said to be "very disappointed" after a fan revealed some of the inner secrets of his regime after a visit to Arsenal's Hertfordshire training base.

According to reports in several newspapers, defender Mertesacker has been appointed by Wenger to collect fines imposed on first team squad members for any breaches of discipline.

Top flight clubs have long been protective of the secrets of their training bases, but details of the fines at Arsenal have given an insight into the club's disciplinary measures.

The fines, revealed in a photograph of a list published online, include:

Non-attendance of unused players at home matches without permission of manager - £1,000.

Being late for training - £250 (15 minutes), £500 (30 minutes).

Being late for matchday meetings/meals - £250.

Wearing inappropriate clothing outside the dressing room - £100.

Newspapers in dressing room - £100.

Non-production of urine sample for two consecutive weeks - £200

Phone calls in the building (texting allowed) - £500.

An Arsenal spokesman said: "The pictures are genuine. We understand that they were taken by a friend of a member of staff during a private visit to the training ground.

"The manager was made aware of the pictures being published, and we are very disappointed. We will review our procedures."

I bet every club has them. Interesting nonetheless to see what sort of fines these big clubs impose.

According to AFCamden Mapou Yanga Mbiwa has missed his Newcastle medical because a move to Arsenal looks promising.

Don't know how much truth there is in that, but if we signed him I'd be beyond over the moon

That's the best thing about the guy, can play anywhere across the back-line. Would be delighted if we got him.

And he's exactly the kind of versatile we need. We've got plenty of players who can play across the frontline or in the midfield. But with this guy we get someone who can play anywhere across the backline as well as in midfield, as we saw against us the Champions League this season.
