Highbury money has been around for a while,, and we received a massive sum before last seasons transfer window iirc. This money is mainly down to renegotiated sponsorship deals, as our old ones were pants.

I dunno if the Puma deal's finances will have come into effect yet? You can't really claim to be a "financially stable" club and be spending money you don't yet have.

Good lukc to Jernade Meade who has signed for Swansea on a free transfer after being released. Joined the club in 2004 as an 11 year old and made 2 appearances last year, 1 in the League Cup and 1 in the Champions League.

Sagna playing at CB tonight, poses an interesting question, could he end up being our 4th choice CB this season, if he doesn;t leave of course. I wouldn't be to upset with it, is definitely able of playing there.

Giroud gets his 2nd and makes it 2-0 just before HT.
EDIT: Make that 3-0 right on HT. Giroud gets his hat-trick. Great little reverse ball from Ox and Giroud dinks is nicely over the keeper.
Inside a minute of the 2nd half and it's 4-0. Ox with the finish from 20 yards out into the top corner after a lay off from Theo.

Chuba Akpom makes it 5-0 after 56 mins with a lovely finish into the far corner via a great chipped through ball from Rambo.
58'gone. Zelalem with a great through ball for Ox who squares it to Akpom to finish into an empty net to make it 6-0 and for his 2nd goal in as many minutes.

 This match is unreal. First Vietnam score to make it 7-1 and celebrate like they've won the World Cup. Then we're treated to what can only be described as a monsoon  and just to top it all off Vietnam's sub keeper gets sent off on 89 mins so Vietnam are forced to play an outfield player in goal who is forced to put a bib on by the referee and not just have his normal jersey on

FT: Vietnam 1-7 Arsenal
Scorers: Giroud x3, Akpom x2, Miquel,Ox
Another solid hit out, one thing's for sure, with players like Akpom and Zelalem the League Cup will be fun this year, provided they don't go out on loan.

You can't really claim to be a "financially stable" club and be spending money you don't yet have. Does anyone here (I don't, it's a question and not looking down on people) have an idea on the kind of interest an amount of money like "the highbury sale money" would have accrued since getting it if it just lay dormant in a bank account? Does anyone know why there hasn't been more talk of Cesc back to Arsenal? £31m for a world-class midfielder slash false striker, guarenteed to get the fans on board. If Wenger is serious about spending his £70m, that'd leave £40m left over for one or two other high-cost players. If any rumour of Cesc returning to England is true, I just can't fathom why it isn't to his former club that he loves so much. Imagine a midfield of Jack, Carzola & Cesc - maybe a little light defensively but bloody brilliant.

There was a shitload of talk about Cesc coming back here earlier in the window, but all died down when it became pretty clear he isn't leaving Barca, even more clear once they sold Thiago.

Rumours in Brazil at the moment are that we have stepped up our interest in Bernard. Would love him here, the kid is going to be a star.

Oh man, the Daily Mail is fucking hilarious. This afternoon not 15 minutes apart they posted articles stating that Arsenal had met Suarez's 40m asking price, that Liverpool had accepted a 55m bid from Arsenal and that Suarez's asking price is 50m which Arsenal refuse to meet. Those cunts are fucking useless.

 Isn't it great to have an actual dilemma over who to play at LB.
Honestly, I couldn't split them and don't see any point in making a prediction because unless someone gets injured we really have no idea who will play
Looking forward to watching the game against Nagoya Grampus tonight. The first test of our pre-season and will be good for the fitness coming up against a team in the middle of their season.

Edited by sydneycroatia58: 22/7/2013 12:32:49 PM Which is kind of my point. Given Gibbs is typically made of paper Monreal will get plenty of game time. I suppose the RB spot is the real question... can Jenkinson push Sagna for the starting spot? On Jenkinson how much do you think the United mauling in his first match affected his development. Seriously it's hard to feel like you belong on the back of an 8-2 smashing?

The United thrashing hasn't really affected him that much on what he showed last season. If his form last season is anything to go by then yes he can definitely push Sagna, especially with the form Sagna showed last season.
Also the 8-2 against United wasn't his first match. He played in the 2 legs against Udinese and against Liverpool before the game against United.

Giroud continues his great pre-season form with his 6th goal in his 3rd game. 1-0 after 3 mins.
2-0 after 25 mins, Ryo converts a penalty. Nice touch to let him take it against the club he supported as a kid.

2-0 at HT.
56 mins and it's 3-0 with Zelalem playing the perfect through ball for Theo to dink it over the keeper. This Zelalem is something special.
