He was my favourite player before he left, but we could honestly spend that sort of money better on other positions. Starting to get a bit overcrowded in attacking midfield.

Only 3 weeks till the season starts and we were promised 3 key signings *grumble grumble*. I can only hope he's waiting till the last few days of the transfer window to try and shave off a few million in transfer fees? Just creates the risk that we lose opportunities like Higuain though. Interesting that the fee we were quoted at nearly getting him for is almost half what Napoli paid.

From some reports it seems that real madrid jacked up the price when he was about to sign (possibly from Napoli interest) to which Arsene did not take kindly.

Yeah most reports seem to suggest it was Madrid being cunts that scuppered that deal. Still just over a month until the window closes, plenty of time.

Remember what happened last time Arsene went last minutes window shopping... Park, Santos - though we also got Arteta in that crazy 24hrs. Back to the Cesc love-in - best memory is the goal v Spurs - you know the one, straight from the kick-off! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0Gopxz2bf4

My fave Cesc goal was the bomb he scored vs Tottenham when Arsenal won 3-1. Gareth Bale scored a neat freekick to start things off, Adebayor scored a lovely header as well as my favourite goal of all time off a turn-touch, and Cesc scored his bomb. Awesome game, will never forget it. First time I ever said the worst "eat a dick, spurs"

Best memory of Cesc had to be the game against Villa, around the time people were questioning his leadership. Injured, comes on mid way through the second half after a typical insipid Arsenal display, lifts the crowd, lifts the team, bags two goals and kept us in the hunt for the League.

Man... I know I said we could better spend the money on other positions but.... re-living these moments is making me really want Cesc back.
Now with Higuain out of the picture, who do you guys think should be our target striker if/when Suarez falls through?
I'm at a loss for ideas. Seems like all the good ones have already been snatched up. Maybe we could pick up Ibrahimovic for a bargain now that PSG has Cavani? Getting oldish but he's probably still the best pure striker in the world IMO.

Chels are gunning for Rooney and Lukaku is back. Could nab Torres for cheap-ish (although I have no idea his wage demands tbh).

I rate Giroud alot higher. Without his speed he's just an average striker. He's never going to gain his old form back. 8 goals in 36 EPL games is a tonne? Would rather no striker at all and just wait till next year to look for real quality. We don't need more overpaid deadwood on the bench.

I dunno, having Santi & Cesc behind him may help his cause. Didn't he score 30 odd goals in all comps last season? I wouldn't write Torres off so easily tbh. But as I said, I don't know his wages. Wouldn't surprise me if he's on 150k plus p/w at Chels though.

I love how everyone is rubbishing the possibility of Cesc to Utd, but arsenal fans are still in dreamland about him returning to the emirates.

Wouldn't surprise me if he's on 150k plus p/w at Chels though. He lost alot of pace following his knee operation in 2010. Hasn't been the same player since. He scored most of his goals against lowly Europa teams last season. Wasn't up to standard in the EPL though. I don't see a big difference between having Santi & Cesc (who is unlikely to return) behind him rather than Mata, Hazard and Oscar. Vaughn2111 wrote:I love how everyone is rubbishing the possibility of Cesc to Utd, but arsenal fans are still in dreamland about him returning to the emirates. I think it's more likely that he'd come to Arsenal than United. But no, I very much doubt he will leave Barca at all anytime soon. Edited by neanderthal: 29/7/2013 12:36:16 PM

If the rumours of him being unhappy are true, why wouldn't we dream for one of our clubs best ever players back? You guys will be the same when you eventually lose Bale.

But arsenal aren't actually bidding for Cesc...
by the sounds of it, the only way Cesc will return is after Utd make the first bid. Everyone also seems to think that you would automatically match it too, when there is every possibility that Utd's finances would blow you out if the water.

Well yes, but the only way Barca are going to sell him is if Manchester Utd, the only team in world football actually tracking the player (and now even that speculation has died down), bid high enough for them to see it worthwhile. Then, sure arsenal, you can have a turn. It's just ridiculous. At least the cockfest of Higuain had some tabloids to support it.
