Would like to see us go for Sakho or Alderweireid as our defensive signing. Both only have 1 year left on their contract and would definitely entertain a move to us.
Alderweireld can also play at RB if I'm not mistaken.

So if we do indeed sign Flamini and want to have him in the squad for Fulham, the paperwork will need to be done by 12pm GMT today.

It's obviously case by case but Wenger said a while ago that he believes players generally go for cheaper at the end of the window. Someone like Julio Cesar for example who is surplus to requirements for QPR would be much more of a bargain at the end of the window. Would not be surprised to land him on or around deadline day.

True, but if you're looking to sign a key player, it will cost you.

Does anybody else think Flamini looks like Higuain?

Some quotes from Arsene from his press conference. Quote:Every player's first question is 'do you play in the Champions League or not?' That is the first requirement Quote:You'd be surprised how early we acted [in the transfer market]. [Sometimes] it doesn't come off Quote:'I don't want to speak about names, you [the media] do that very wel Quote:He [Flamini] is just here to work on his fitness and he does that very well Quote:I'm confident [I'll make the signings I need]. We have some funds available Quote:I don't say there's no chance and I don't say there is a chance [of signing him] That last Flamini quote is classic Arsene  Give them an answer, but don't at the same time and apparently when asked if there was some chance he just smiled Edited by sydneycroatia58: 23/8/2013 06:25:36 PM

I love the first one as it is like players go in not knowing if the club they are negotiating with are in the Champions league or not

The later in the window you get, the harder it becomes to research and build a bid for a replacement player. So you're going to pay more to compensate for that. In Pv4's scenario chances are that player is already transfer listed.

Arsene, on Suarez wrote:"I don't want to speak in detail about that," Wenger said. "It's not the moment. One day, why not? I've just said it's over. We have to get on with our lives. You seem to know as much as I know about the situation so I don't think we need for me to clarify that. You've certainly tried to go out with a girl and find she has chosen someone else. You don't commit suicide." How the fuck does he come up with this shit   Looks a nod towards Real/Suarez imo, but could mean literally anything.

Apparently Cabaye talks are going well. Still indifferent to whether or not we actually need him, but a signing would be good (if it goes through)

So it appears that Cavani is playing on the wing so Ibra has no reason to want to move. Etoó looks to be off to Chelsea and Benzema was never realistic. And with that, there's literally not a single available Arsenal quality strikers on the market.
Unless Wenger pulls some young winger out of the hat who he plans to turn into a striker ala Henry/RVP then I think we're just going to have to wait until January at the very earliest.
Any ideas for who may become available in Jan?

Any ideas for who may become available in Jan? To be fair, your acquisitions over the previous few years don't set the 'arsenal quality' benchmark too high.

Make do with Giroud - I like it! :-"
To the sound of the limbo anthem 'how low can you go'
Giroud is not World Class but if he scores one goal every game that a 60 goal season... [trying to find the silver lining of what has been a big dark cloud of a transfer window]

[trying to find the silver lining of what has been a big dark cloud of a transfer window] I totally rate Giroud and fully expect him to improve this season and score a tone of goals. But he's just not comparable to the likes of RVP, Henry or Bergkamp. Just lacks the dynamism to be able to win games through individual brilliance. Also breaks down alot of our attacks by trying to be too tricky and risky with his passing.

An English journalist based in Spain has claimed that Real Madrid have 'responded favourably' to our bid for Angel Di Maria and that Bale's arrival will pave the way for Di Maria to leave.
Also reports that we met with representatives of Yohan Cabaye in London last night

Have you actually bid for Di Maria? What sort of fee do you think he'll go for?

The rumours put it at around 30 million euros, which I think is a steal if we can sign him for that price. At the moment I'm leaning towards preferring a player like Di Maria over a new striker. Giroud Di Maria-Cazorla-Walcott Wilshere-Arteta/Ramsey Thats a strong line up, but we really need 2-3 players for depth, preferably one in each line. Not too worried about GK, I think Chesney is fine, unless we can bring a proven world class stopper in.

Going to be an interesting next few months for Jack, because on current form he doesn't get into the starting lineup.

Would Podolski become striker cover if you we're to sign a new winger?

Ramsey and Wilshere have enough grit in them to not get bossed around, a trio of Ramsey, Wilshere and Cazorla would run rings around your midfielders. Barring any signing, think we'll line up like this: Chesney Sagna-Mert-Koscielny-Gibbs Ramsey-Wilshere Walcott-Rosicky-Cazorla Giroud

I don't think Di Maria would handle the physicality of the EPL any way.
