And also almost tripled our previous record transfer. That not a willingness to spend?

So so stoked with Ozil though. Walcott and Giroud are going to have a field day with Santi/Ozil feeding them. so true the irony manu missing out you guys gaining a top buy - I enjoy it just for the manu butt hurt  As for Walcott having a field day - come on he's a hit and miss so many times just as Lennon :p  Again good buy look forward to our clash.

 Comparing Lennon and Walcott. 3 or 4 years ago maybe, but not anymore. Walcott is way ahead of him.

We all have differing opinions sydcro - just as any of us backing our own but more times than not walcott f's up his chance after his great run into space presenting a angled one on one, Lennon doesn't come inside as much but similar that presented with the opportunity more times than not its a 0, imo walcott is marginally ahead :p Anyway as I said Ozil is a great buy glad for you guys.

There is no competition between Walcott and Lennon, although Walcott can be incredibly inconsistent, he still racks up the stats year after year now. Lennon has done jack shit and is probably Spur's worst wide player now.

He;s not marginally ahead, he's miles ahead. Just look at last season for proof Lennon: 48 games in all comps, 4 goals, 8 assists Walcott: 43 games, 21 goals, 14 assists Like I said, 3 or 4 years ago it was a lot closer, but since 2010 Walcott has consistently been better and really pulled away last season. Like jlm said, as inconsistent as Theo can be at times, he's still miles better than Lennon.

Absolutely this, inconsistency aside Walcott is by far and away the better player, Lennon will surely be nowhere near the starting lineup once the new signings adapt.

First of al, hats off to Arsenal, never saw this coming. Best signing of the window.
However, to put a negative on it mainly because I'm jealous of the signing. It has to kind of hurt Arsenal fans knowing that they had this in them but never did anything. Where was this type of signing 7 or 8 years ago?
If they were getting players like this over the last 5 years, they would be winning trophies.

I wouldn't say it hurts, just annoying more than anything else. Although tbf in the last we haven't had this tpe of signing in us. 3 or 4 years ago we wouldn't have been able to pay 43m for a player and 130k p/w in wages.

I think you're thinking of the old Walcott of over a year ago. He's a pretty consistent performer these days. Really can't comapare him to Lennon.

Like Arséne said, there's often a sudden change in players at around that age (24/25ish) when they start to enter their prime years. Edited by neanderthal: 3/9/2013 12:22:24 PM

The real challenge now it to not sit back and be content with one big signing. There is literally nothing holding us back now, even if we miss out on UCL this year, Spuds have shown you can still get quality players in.

First off, Ozil is a superb signing. Was shocked when I read how much Wenger spent on him. Should be terrific for Arsenal. But I still believe you guys have missed out on what you need the most, a solid defensive midfielder. IMO, your midfielders (while all good players) are relatively similar without one being really "defensive minded" which I believe will cost Arsenal some games. You can see it already in the off the ball movement in some of the games this season. Without a true midfield screener, the midfielders have often moved to pressure the opposition, leaving holes in the middle of the park.

The Wizard of Ozil I was under the impression that Flamini wasn't going to be in the starting 11.... Happy to be proven wrong though.
