Wonder what Kenny will do about Gerrard's absence... Perhaps straight swap with Cole.

--------------Torres------------
Maxi---Meireles-Cole---Kuyt/GJ
---------------Lucas------------
Fabio--Dagger--Skrtel--Kelly
---------------Pepe------------

Switching to a 4-2-3-1 with Meireles alongside Lucas when not in possession.

I like that, except I'd be pulling Maxi into the centre. I don't think Lucas should be back there either. Can't defend for shit. If he needs a place, then it works well if he's where Meireles is, inside Maxi if Maxi has to be out on the left. Even under Roy that was a fairly productive partnership, with Lucas in to cover for Maxi coming forward.

But you work with what you've got, right? We've had a bit of a problem since Alonso left, and Lucas is only a pale imitation of him. At best, average, and certainly not someone I feel comfortable seeing cover when Gerrard's not there.

Yeah... but the next option is... Poulsen  Anyway, as we saw last night, Lucas, Meireles and Gerrard were all very fluid in the way they moved up an down the pitch. And our next option on the left is Babel

You're from Liverpool aren't you? Looks like you lived there for a while from the extent of your knowledge and the way you speak.

Ah, yeah. All my life and then some. Left a couple of years ago, for the missus though, not because I didn't like it. :D Like it is when you're there, you take it for granted sometimes, but when you leave it becomes doubly important. Still have my membership card. Few priorities on that if I go back on holiday. :)

I don't think Lucas will survive, to be honest. What he's got going for him is a vast amount of experience and a great ability to be exactly where the opposition don't want him when they're going forward - but too many mistakes. The bad outweighs the good. He could stay in the squad, but I don't think anyone like we need to manage us would play him regularly.

Yeah... I don't think we can afford to sell him at the moment, with our lack of alternatives.

Good to know, and good to have you here on the forums mate. Can't wait to stand in the Kop one day.

Should be announced in a couple of hours, according to The Mirror.

Anyone except The Sun.

Echo, the Daily Post, the Guardian? The Echo and the Post are local papers. The Echo is owned by Trinity, who also own the Mirror. That's not a great reason for trusting them, though, but they're fairly good at fact and fantasy.

Quote:
NEW Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish last night vowed to restore the winning mentality at Anfield after his side bowed out of the FA Cup.

The Reds were edged out by a single goal at Manchester United yesterday in a controversial third round tie at Old Trafford.

A Ryan Giggs penalty in the first minute of the game was enough to dump Liverpool out of the competition at the first hurdle.

The Reds also had to cope with the loss of their captain Steven Gerrard after he was shown the red card by referee Howard Webb in the first half.

But Dalglish, has promised to do his utmost to find the formula that he believes will see his side turn round results on the pitch.

After the game, the 59-year-old told the ECHO: “As great as the effort and commitment was great today, the football club isn’t in the habit of losing games.

“Even down to 10 men at Manchester United, and having lost the game to a diabolical penalty kick, we can’t accept that and we won’t accept that.”

Dalglish’s words will be welcomed by Reds fans who believed expectations were being altered under Roy Hodgson’s troubled reign.

And the Scot described the honour he felt after being invited by Liverpool’s American owners to guide the club into calmer waters.

The manager has been installed as temporary manager at Anfield until the end of the season in a bid to end an alarming run of results, which has signaled the worst start to a Reds season for 57 years.

Recent losses against Blackburn and Wolves persuaded Boston Red Sox chief John W Henry to wield the axe against Hodgson on Saturday.

Dalglish, who left as boss under emotional circumstances back in 1991, said: “I don’t think it’s unfinished business. I said before there were unfortunate circumstances in which I left the last time. This time it’s Roy that’s lost his job and he’s a real good man with integrity and dignity and a friend.

“That was the disappointing thing for me that Roy came here and it never worked out as well as everyone hoped for.

“But for me it’s a great honour to be back and for the supporters there’s no way we’re not going to do as much as we possibly can and get some positive results.

“The players want to go on and win games because the people at this football club deserve that. There’s only one way we can do that, working hard and producing the goods on the pitch.”

Dalglish recalled the Liverpool glory days of previous decades when he was a player and then manager at Anfield.

And he indicated his desire to bring back more success to the club for the younger generations of supporters to savour.

He said: “We’ve got to get the fans singing, we’ve got to make them proud of us. And that’s what we want to do.

“We’ve not been great but I think the memory sometimes plays tricks.

“People think back to the glory days of the 80s and 90s, or the 70s and 80s, saying, ‘Remember that? That was fantastic’.

“But we were rubbish in games then, sometimes as well.

“We want to give them some happy memories as well, that was the big thing about Istanbul wasn’t it?

“That generation of supporter had never witnessed a European Cup. We want to give this generation their own tales to tell, of fantastic football.”

From the Echo

:) Kenny

Class from Kenny

Question: Do you think you put your legendary status on the line by taking the job?

Kenny: Quite the reverse, I think I would have put it on the line by not taking it.

Still no movement in the transfer window?

You'd think that Poulsen and Jovanovic would be on the way out. Which might free up some money. I'd add Babel, Konchesky and N'Gog to that list. Babel's had enough time now to make his mark and he really hasn't impressed. N'Gog, while a decent dribbler is not up to the physical demands of the league and I don't think that he's good enough. Kon, who did impress me earlier this season has been dreadful the last couple of games. Between him and Johnson, we have little cover on the flanks. I'd love to see us sign another striker, a decent left back and maybe another midfielder. Perhaps we can get both Corluka and Krancjar off Spurs? Krancjar to offer a bit more creativity in midfield and Corluka to reinforce the back-line.

As for a striker I'd love to have Stefan Kiessling, but I know that's unrealistic, plus I'm pretty sure he is injured at the moment. I'd say we should go after Santa Cruz, but he's had little game time and he's too injury prone. Adebayor would be a good option...until he gets tired of playing for us, demands more money and then sulks until he gets a transfer request. Still we need more firepower and quickly. Hopefully Kenny can get the best out of Torres. I'd love for him to stay, but he needs to regain his form. A fit and firing Torres is the most leathel striker in the world, and I don't want to see us sell him unless his replacement is of the same standard.

Oh and does anyone know when Aqualani comes back from loan, or is he looking to make the move permanent?

You can clearly see here Fabio Aurelio is at right back and Johnson is at left back. It's just because you made you formation go from Goalkeeper downwards it looks like it's the other way round, I think you've confused yourself.

Konchesky needs to go. Doesn't matter where, send him on loan to Dagenham or something.

Who keeps changing the fucking thread title?

Dalglish needs to make some moves in the transfer market soon. But our performance against United was heartening, to have everything go against us and still put in a solid performance. It's a good sign for Kenny.
