Yep! I'm interested to see who makes way for Gerrard when he comes back, most likely candidates are Adam and Henderson.

Carroll
Downing - Suarez - Gerrard
Adam - Lucas

Or

Carroll
Downing - Suarez - Henderson
Gerrard - Lucas

Or even

Suarez
Downing - Gerrard - Henderson
Adam - Lucas

In some games.

Options, options, options! Then of course Maxi, Bellamy, Shelvey, Kuyt as offensive bench options. Yippee!

Lots of squad rotation. Four centre halves now, though - picking between Carra, Coates, Agger, Skrtel...

Happy 18th birthday to Jack Robinson today :)

Also, a flashback:

Quote:
Liverpool failed to bring in the forward they need and wanted after West Ham rejected a bid for Carlton Cole on deadline day.

Liverpool are believed to have offered Lucas Leiva, the Brazilian midfielder, and Ryan Babel, their Dutch international forward, in exchange for Cole but neither player wanted to leave Anfield for Upton Park

That was last year. Imagine if it had've happened. Lucas out and Carlton Cole in. ](*,) Roy.

Damien Comolli today hailed the 'bravery' of owners John Henry and Tom Werner for allowing him to reshape the Liverpool squad during this summer's transfer window.

With the window now closed until the new year, the Reds are left to reflect on a period of exhaustive transfer activity which saw seven new faces arrive and a number leave either on loan or on permanent deals.

Speaking minutes after completing the deal to bring Craig Bellamy back to Anfield, Comolli said: "It's difficult for me to put into words what they gave us throughout the summer. Their support was absolutely tremendous, in the down times and in the up times.

"When they needed to invest money we didn't think they'd have to John and Tom were unbelievably helpful. I think we are very lucky to have these owners because people need to realise a lot of owners would have said the squad is too big so you need to reduce it, and then when you've done that bring some players in. But that was never the approach they had. They were happy to take risks and happy for us to spend the money, they were happy to support us and to trust us as well.

"I told them in the summer we need to buy players first and towards the end of the window there would be a lot of movement with players going out, and they were very, very brave to accept that, having had no experience of a similar transfer window.

"From the outside it might be difficult to understand, but from my side their support was absolutely tremendous."

This. So much. Really have enjoyed this new ownership. Henry and Werner may not have known exactly how football works, but they employed people that had the know how.

imnofreak: Wow what a difference a year makes huh? Lucas has grown so much and I could not imagine a starting XI without him in it. He really stepped up when the chips were down last season and he is already backing it up again this season.

Yep. He's a fucking midfield monster and he's been helping out Kelly and Enrique immensely - you watch how he tracks back and doubles up when the wingers are going down our flanks. As well as tackling anything that moves in the middle. And that's not even talking about his excellent passing game.

Next jersey I get will definitely have his name on it. Fucking love him :)

We had 2 starters (henderson as captain and Flanagan) and Jonjo shevely coming on in 89th minute for England U21. Henderson scored as England won 6-0 against Azerbaijan.

Still can't get over signing Bellamy. The guy can't get a game for Cardiff FFS!

Exactly right mate, he really bosses our midfield. The one point that sticks out for me from the three rounds so far was when Lucas was getting stuck into Hendo cause he drifting in defence against Sunderland. Loved it. He really does have a perfect mix of South American in him in the fact he is hard ass tackler, but also a decent passer. It really makes me like him all the more that he shined in an absolute shit of a season that was last season - apart from when the King took over.

Theyre on LFC TV I think but that's it.

LIVERPOOL: Jones, Johnson, Enrique, Agger, Aurelio, Suarez, Gerrard, Carroll, Rodriguez, Kuyt, Downing, Spearing, Carragher, Reina, Adam, Doni, Skrtel, Lucas, Bellamy.

small squad compared to others but we have a lot of U21 players (Flanno, Robinson, Wilson, Coates, Henderson, Shelvey) who I would consider to be first team.

He only played about half their minutes last season, and most of those goals came early on. If they really wanted him they'd have actually forked over to keep him. There are plenty of players out there who are capable of bringing just as much to the team as Bellamy but who will be around in 5 years time to contribute, Bellamy won't be.

I just don't think a guy who struggled to make an impact for us previously in a squad that provided him with multitudes of opportunities is the kind of signing that we should be making with the massive steps forward we've been taking this summer. The whole thing smacks of 'panic buy' on the last day of the window. I think given the chance to persuade Chelsea to part with Sturridge, we should have taken it.

The Under 18 FA cup is on Setanta for the later stages, that's about all though.

He won't be HG until the season after. My bad. Shelvey will qualify as HG, regardless of being U21.

Wilson, Flanno and Robbo get it at the end of next season and Hendo already counts.

Definitley plenty in the HG stocks, compared to how we were 2-3 years ago.

No he didn't.

http://www.soccerway.com/players/craig-bellamy/2982/

He played over 3000 minutes, and had 36 games out of 46. That's an average of 83 minutes per game. When he played for us, he had 7 goals in 27. Now, by your logic, Lucas shouldn't even be at the club because Rafa couldn't ever work out what to do with him. And if Kenny, a far superior manager to Rafa, can use anyone, he can use Bellamy.

I don't know about when he's scored in the games, but equally, if he's good at scoring early in the games when he made at least 78% of starts then how is using him as a second choice striker or attacking midfielder, bringing him on in place of one of the younger ones, not a good thing?

What you're saying is that he's good at scoring early on, when everyone's fresh, so we shouldn't bring him on later on, when no-one except Bellamy is fresh?

Anyway, the guy was free, and he's on a two year contract, and we also bought Villyan Bijev. There was no intention of keeping him for five.

And, not to mention, Bellamy is a Red. He's a fan. That means much more to the way he plays for us. Neil Warnock had eyes on Bellamy, but he said that as soon as the offer from Liverpool came, he knew Bellamy was going to take it because he loved Liverpool.

Steven Gerrard today welcomed Craig Bellamy's Anfield return - and insisted he never wanted the Welsh striker to leave in the first place.

Bellamy completed his free transfer move back to Anfield on transfer deadline day last week - much to the delight of his skipper.

"I'm delighted that Craig is back - I didn't want him to leave in the first place," Gerrard said.

"That pace and the fiery character he's got will help us in our push for success this season.

"When he was here before he was popular and one of the hardest working in training. He was always in the gym getting himself in good shape.

"What people need to realise is that Craig is a top professional. He works really hard day in, day out.

"He's very knowledgeable about the game and I know even though he's slightly older than me he will still want to learn and do well here.

"I'm sure he will be desperate to play for Kenny. He will have watched Liverpool from the outside like me in recent months and seen a lot of positive things. He will be excited to come back and we're glad to have him back."

Lucas has developed as a player since he joined the club. Bellamy has not. Your logic is flawed.

Bellamy spend 1100 minutes off the pitch for Cardiff, most of that came towards the tail end of the season. And scoring only 11 goals in 3004 minutes isn't exactly the kind of record which is going to stand up to scrutiny in the championship, let alone the EPL. Just because he's free doesn't mean it's a good deal. Why, when you could have had Sturridge or Podolski would you go with Bellamy? Especially when you know that Bellamy has had problems at the club int he past. Regardless of whether or not he's a Liverpool fan, since when is signing a player just because they support the club a requisite? And since when is Neil Warnock's transfer escapades of any relevance to our club? You're clutching at straws.

There's no guarantee that Bijev will develop or even make it into first team contention. Look at Ngog, Pacheco, Ecclestone or Adorjan. This summer has been about recruiting proven EPL performers in Enrique, Downing and Adam...why change that and sign Bellamy?

Oh, look. Denial isn't just a river in Egypt. I'm clutching at straws? Fuck off. Come back when you know more than the echo chamber inside your head tells you. Soft in the head, lad.

Of course, you'll translate that into something you want to hear, so just let me tell you: don't bother. It won't get read.
