He hasn't been getting regular game time because of Gigs/Valencia/Nani, tbh. Even if Young would have flopped, he's still a better player than Downing.
And as for Mata, that's not the point I'm making. The point is that we've misinvested the money significantly. Look at Downing - a player signed for his assists, doesn't have a single one to his name this season. That's simply unsatisfactory. And comparatively, Mata cost 3m more and looks like ten times the player. If Downing was the 'best available' then I weep for our football club.

Why would those players want to go to Liverpool Afro?
EDIT: On Young's game time, he was playing pretty much every game, he has been injured which has kept him out.

I know what you mean but there is no point. Why don't you just rattle off every player in the world who costs that much and say we could have got them.

But I think the three players in question adequately expressed what I was trying to say. I mean look at Henderson, he's done very little and people keep defending him saying "He'll be tops in a couple of seasons" - those couple of seasons being AFTER a once in a generation player who's damn impossible to replace (ie Gerrard) retires. What good is that? Surely with the hundreds of footballers out there (as you implied) there was ONE of them who could get the job done NOW. Ditto downing.

Don't understand the Henderson bashing, he's been consistently excellent when played in the middle. And I don't understand the point Re: Gerrard. He'll be around for another few seasons yet, why does Hendo have to take over right now?

Gerrard will do a Scholes as well. He will be back to save the day after he retires.

Henderson was signed to play on the right. He can't do that. We need a player who CAN play on the right.
Gerrard will be around for a few seasons. But what good is mediocrity for that time? You spend 50m on players to be mediocre for the rest of Gerrard's career? You're signing players who either aren't performing or aren't performing in the role intended for them and wasting money AGAIN. A tragic history of Liverpool that they join the list of high-profile and expensive flops and we waste the potential of one of the greatest players of his generation because of a complete inability to build a supporting cast for him.

May I enquire as to how you know what he was signed for? I would have thought after you were made to eat your words about Lucas you would be a bit more patient with players - sometimes it takes a while for a player to hit his peak. It doesn't mean it is wasted money just because they don't hit amazing heights in their first season. Every club makes shit signings, but it's unfair for you to say we have a list of high profile or expensive flops. You can't judge the likes of Downing, Hendo, Carroll yet, as it is far too soon - looking back over the years I can't think of many high profile or expensive flops. Aqua pops into the mind, as does Keane. But that's kinda it. I love how we just qualified for a cup final and you're sitting here being a fucking downer and saying we almost bottled it and we've got shit players... did you watch this morning? Everybody stepped up, played for the shirt.. I have no idea why you're being a depressing bastard today of all days.

I do feel for Henderson. I compare him to myself and my career. A central midfielder but quite versatle and often played out wide, slightly out of position which proves to be a bad thing as you are unable to play your natural game.
He is a very solid player but will never set a game alight. A consistent, versatile player surrounded by top quality will never please all fans.

Nawwwww. Quote:I do feel for Henderson. I compare him to myself and my career. Thankfully he's playing centrally more often than not now. I don't think he'll particularly set games alight but he's the kind of player that you need one or two of in every team - somebody who is an good passer of the ball, very mobile, keeps possession ticking over... he works his ass off every game, like Kuyt used to do, but he has superb technique also.

will he keep his spot when lucas returns though? i kinda hope not, if only so gerrard can be pushed further forward to where henderson is playing. although when lucas is back kenny might just drop adam and keep gerrard sitting deeper next to lucas.
ps when is lucas back anyway?

Lucas is out for the season mate, so we'll cross that bridge when we come to it :)
Good to have you back Sammy! Long time no see.
Big game tonight... lads will be fucking PUMPED. Feeling good for it. Bellers will definitely be rested, so I can see Andy going up top. Hendo behind him, Downing on one flank, Kuyt/Maxi on the other, Adam and Gerrard in the middle. Maybe Kelly in for Johno at RB.

Sounds weird but I would rather Carroll on the bench. He is just the type to get a jammy goal against us and give you guys hope for a few weeks. The ball is due to hit him the head and fly in at some stage.

Quote:LIVERPOOL BUYS PLAYER AFTER WATCHING FAKE VIDEO Soccer: THERE'S enough fake 'skills session' videos floating around the internet that it's sometimes hard to separate the skilful from the impossible. But when there's $29 million at stake, you'd think you'd do your homework. Liverpool chairman Tom Werner, has admitted offering the staggering sum to acquire Stewart Downing after watching an hoax online video showing the midfielder kicking five balls into garbage bins some distance away while he was a player at Aston Villa. Werner confessed he and Liverpool principal owner John Henry fell victim to the hoax, although they learned it was fake before penning the deal. "There was some footage of Stewart where he was, from 30 yards (27m) away, kicking a ball into five different trash cans and it was brilliant. John and I said, 'Oh my God, this player is brilliant, we've got to figure out a way to make a deal with him'," Werner said. In all fairness, from what I have seen, Downing hasn't been that bad. Bt then again, I haven't watched that many Liverpool matches recently.

I don't think he has been 'bad'. But you can have a bad player who has 10x better quality in the final 3rd.

What a fucking win! Both teams had periods of dominance, we hung on we had to and grabbed the winner. Terrific distribution from Pepe, mountainous flick on from Carroll and an emphatic finish from Kuyt!! MOTM has to be Andy, he put himself about all day, used his strength and size, had a hand in the first and set up the second. Gutted his header hit the bar. But not only that, his link up play was superb. Flick ons, hold up play, etc. De Gea is just so hopeless  Almost sad. Bring on Round 5!! Stoked for Kuyt to get a goal too... Hendo was quality too, and Downing looked great when he was put on the left. Evra's error for the goal too \:d/

Were you watching the same game as me, he was getting beaten in the air by Evans nearly everytime they went up. And also I hate to sound like a saw loser but surely you don't think you lot were actually the better side? Edited by sleel6: 29/1/2012 11:03:43 AM

 I wouldn't say we weren't - you guys had some long periods of dominance but so did we. When it comes to chances you didn't really have any in the second half so you can't complain. Saw this and chuckled. Quote:The FA today award the FA Cup tie to Manchester after accepting Patrice Evra's claim that his team in fact scored 6 times. Despite 5 of the goals not being caught by any of the players, the crowd, or the TV cameras, the FA found Mr. Evra a very convincing witness. On other hand, 'we found Mr. Reina's testimony to be totally unreliable. He admitted conceding one goal but was unable to come up with any evidence at all of saving any of the other 5. Since, Mr. Reina could not prove he saved 5 goals, we concluded that they must have been scored'. The referee said that he didn't recall 6 goals being scored but couldn't be sure as he threw his notes away after the game.
Responding to comments that Mr. Evra had at very times after the game claimed his team had scored 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7 goals, the panel found that Mr. Evra, not being a native speaker of English, had confused these numbers and thought they all meant 6.
LFC have been urged not to appeal by fair play campaigners saying that Man U won far and square and the team should not condone cheating.

Well done. EDIT: That article is about as funny as a fart. Edited by busbybabe: 29/1/2012 11:33:17 AM

Only to you.
I was talking about our best, not yours. Scholes was brilliant in regards to passing completion, not sure on exact numbers but nobody can refute it.
When he went off and we brought on Adam, we totally bossed thie middle.
I don't know how you can say you were far better though. We had 9 shots on target to your 3, yes you had more possession but on chance creation you weren't on top. I don't think you had a chance in the second half. Welbeck's flick past Pepe perhaps - but Skrtel is a fucking rock ;)

Yeh true, you had chances and at the end of the day goals win games but most chances came from horrible, split second errors. Credit to you guys for pouncing on them but I would say we were by far the better team. However, we can't complain.
Although, if Richards' was a penalty during the week in the same box, Agger's (I think) was pretty much the same, off the foot on to the hand. Not blaming the loss on it, but it was a pen if the one midweek was.
AGAIN NOT BLAMING IT ON THE LOSS :d

Ah enjoy seeing the banter but regardless which team has better play it always comes down to taking the chances presented and we took em ! snatched the win in the end much like many manure wins many times over the yaers when you take chances presented from split second errors thats good football not ?! punish when its there to take. Great week for the Reds taking out both manchester clubs under tuff circumstances \:d/ =d> How sweet it was to see Loius's reaction ;)

When we are having a bit of as you rightly call it, banter. You go call United that, grow up mate.
You should be trying to help the cause of Liverpool fans, not add to their woes.

BB you are so self rightoues its laughable...get off your high horse what I posted is no worse than your/s and other manu supporters with posts really having double meaning. As in your recent post in your thread stating we are not a "top" side anymore nor are our games about "football" as such and the the piece of resistance your mob came out of it for the better. Come on and your calling me immature. I certainly don't add to our woes for I am not at that level as you insinuate. As you know unfortunately there are bad apples on both sides of the ledger they are the ones taking both our supporters down and I'm sure you agree but its still about football and the result counts !

I thought I accepeted defeat? I said Liverpool deserved to go through because they won the match fair and square.
Everything is about the football but United-Liverpool goes beyond that time and time again and will continue to do so.
Would you call Liverpool one of the top teams in the league? I would say United, City, Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal are all ahead of Liverpool. You guys are still the biggest with us but that doesn't mean you are at the top, it is hard to accept but sometimes you have to face the truth.
Calling us "manure" is an insult to the people who lost their lives in 58 and I don't see any place for it.
