You have to ask yourself how much it's going to cost us to replace him though. And who do we go after to replace him?

Rodgers doesn't want to sell Agger, and Agger himself has said he doesn't want to leave. I think there will be a fair bit of tension between the fans and the board if he gets sold.

I don't want to see Agger as I think he is a good players and he genuinely loves Liverpool but it might make sense with his injury record and the amount of games Liverpool could be playing this season. Right now I think Liverpool may need a new defender even if Agger stays. There is Skrtel who was exxelent last year but if you are playing up to 70 games in a season you need at least 3 good CB's to rotate.
Liverpool current back up defenders Carragher: Old, Slow, does not know what a short pass is Coates: poor in the Olympics which is a U-23 tournament. Potential, I expect to see him in the league cup and some Europa league games Wilson: Same as Coates may go back on loan to the championship. Then there is a bunch of reserve 19 year olds like Sama who I can't see stepping.
What sort of players Liverpool could go for without breaking the bank like usual Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa - one year left on his contract Newcastle looking at him and he apparently happy to go to Newcastle so I would not see any difference going to Liverpool Mickaël Ciani - 28 years old again from France, one year left. would be decent for a few years in rotation before hopefully one of Liverpools many reserves develop Mateo Musacchio - played 68 games for Villareal who of course were relegated still only 21 will go pretty cheap, Madrid looking at him though

Sama was quite impressive in pre-season. Coates is good enough to be 3rd choice.
The biggest thing about Agger is his injury record... you just know if we keep him he'll do his knee or something in the first few weeks and we'll be without him until January or something.
I'll be sad if he goes though.

Echo running a story that we're confident of wrapping up Tello and Sahin deals on loan. With that, and then maybe the Adam/Dempsey swap, I think this would be a very successful window.

We're not getting Ramirez.
Gerrard wont be playing 60 games this season. Sahin mightn't start every game but I'll be very pleased if we sign him.

He can play any of the 3 midfield spots too, which is a big help.

I just don't think we're gonna get him. It's all his agent making BS. I can't see us getting Tello, Sahin AND Ramirez.

I have just had a chat Neil Jones at the Echo and he says LFC are 'Very confident' that Sahin and Tello deals will conclude this week. He has it 'on very good authority'.
Off another forum. Cool.

Quote:They expect to tie defender Martin Skrtel down to a new long-term contract soon, and will press on with plans to commit Daniel Agger to a similar deal, even in light of persistent interest from Manchester City.
From the Echo. Woo! I'm pretty confident he'll stay.

From what I've heard, Sahin won't be coming.

I don't think we really need him now either and one of Henderson, Spearing, Shelvey and/or Adam would surely have to leave to make his acquisition viable. I'm content with BR actually coming out and saying that we are still looking to make signings, and that its taking a bit longer because we don't want to overpay. Its a far cry from January when KK was talking about how he was happy with what he had and there wasn't a need for signings.

90% sure we're getting Sahin. Afro said to me the other day 'We won't get Sahin' so I hope we do now for two reasons - an excellent player and prove him wrong :P
Seen Adam linked with Everton now too. Tello looks off as well. We need a winger.

Oliver Kay has said it'd be announced today. But then again he's from the same paper that was 100% sure we'd signed Jadson last year.

There's too much talk about it now. It's sped up the last few days. I think he's coming. Delighted.
You guys don't need him... if Song goes you'll just get M'Vila probs. Unless Spurs sign him... but WTF... they have one striker in the squad and they want to sign a DM and a GK?

Quote:if Song goes you'll just get M'Vila probs. Didn't spurs just cough up 15m for M'Vila? We were only looking at Sahin if the Allen deal couldn't be done, imno. There's no reason to sign him now. Though if it meant getting rid of Adam I'd be all for it. We have to do something about our wide players though. You can't go into a season with one designated winger.

Borini will be playing wide primarily. So will Downing. And Sterling is going to be playing more this season IMO. And Gerrard can play one of the forward 3 positions without any issues.
We only need one more wide signing imo. And if Dempsey comes in for Adam he can play in one of the wide positions too.

If Borini's playing wide then who's going to play up top? Suarez can't play lone striker and I doubt we're going to see Carroll leading the line either.

Suarez most certainly can play lone striker if he gets support from midfield/wings. Which he will with Borini, Gerrard, Downing. Like Torres was doing for Spain at the Euros.
The only reason Suarez failed as lone striker last season was because he had players/system that didn't encourage players getting forward from midfield. Rodgers' style is totally different. He's been excellent as lone striker in the games we've played so far.
Andy wont be leading the line. He'll be a good squad option (if he stays).

Suarez has played lone striker against far less physical defences. What do you do against teams that are going to try to kick him off the park?

Win a lot of free kicks. :P
The fact that he and Borini can switch roles will be very helpful. The front 3 is going to be very fluid. Throw Gerrard in the mix too and defenses will struggle. Think like what Henry did for Arsenal back in the day, he used to be very good at pulling wide and making space for the wingers/CMs coming through.

He's a luxury buy. Can't see us getting M'Vila, only because I can't see us selling Song.

There's a huge difference in class between the old arsenal attacking combination of Ljungberg/Henry/Bergkamp/Pires and Liverpool's Downing/Suarez/Gerrard/Borini and you know it.

Suarez will play in the middle of a front three, but not as a striker. I think ideally we would have a front three which drifted in and out of each others positions creating indecision in the opposition defense, but with Downing included in the front three he is seemingly just acting as a bit of pace wide right who stretches the defense creating room for Suarez, Borini and Gerrard while also being a threat with his left footed shots while cutting in.

The idea that Downing is anywhere near the team after his performances last term still shits me to tears.
