He's pacy, still young, wanted by Ajax, versatile, and at a significantly knocked down rate because of his contract situation.

The way I see it, signings like this can go one of three ways

a) He disappoints - but we still lose little given his fee and have no problems getting rid given his wages and age.
b) He turns out decent - we get a very useful squad addition to see us through the first stage of our overall improvement
c) He impresses - we've got ourselves a steal

He scored 10 goals in the Eredivise last season from the wing and got a fair few assists too. Same as the year before. There is literally nothing to not like. NFI Why you have to be such a mopey bastard all the time.

I think he's a fantastic squad option. He's very quick, agile and tricky on the ball and can go past players well. Will be a great squad option.

You whinged like this when we signed Bellamy, and look what happened.

My initial impressions of the transfer are good. He is quite young, according to soccernet he scored ten goals in twenty games from the wing and he is coming in for what really is a tiny transfer fee.

A lot of supporters will simply be happy to see us looking at players in the eredivisie, in fact wasn't Michel Vorm BR's last purchase from the Netherlands? Didn't turn out that bad did he.. o:)

I hope he does well so Liverpool actually realise they can get a decent winger for under 5m instead of Downing. I am not confident he will do well as even though I like the Eredivisie players coming from their seem to have good goalscoring records that seem to stop.

Like I said... it's low risk, if he flops it's not a massive problem because of his age/fee/wages. We really can't lose.

Yeah, good option to have on the bench. Last year, Liverpool were really lacking any real impact off the bench.

Though I still potentially see another winger being signed - Assaidi seems more of a bench/impact player and I'd have thought Borini would be back-up to Suarez instead of starting winger. Thoughts?

I'm pretty confident Borini will be first XI. But could be wrong!

Only positive was Joe Allen. Was absolutely fantastic and had to run the midfield himself - Gerrard was absolutely dreadful and Lucas was rusty and faded badly (understandably)

Suarez started on fire and created 4-5 chances for himself but once again failed to take any. Downing started brightly and faded too.

It was annoying because we had some fantastic spells and were definitely the better side in the first half, only to go behind to that amazing hit from Gera.

I disagree with both penalties but that's football. You get some and you don't.

Agger is now out for 3 MASSIVE games I think, which is horrible.

Oh well. Hopefully this makes FSG pull out another 15 mil :lol:

Still undecided on the 2nd pen. If it happens on halfway, it's a free kick, no doubt but in the box, looked harsh but probably the right call considering.

No idea who will play CB in the next 3 games alongside Martin... Carra or Coates probs. Dunno who I'd prefer in truth.

Absolutely fucking disgusting performance. Regardless of whether or not the penalties were legitimate or not, Gera should never have been given that much space - it's not the first time he's hit a strike like that against us. Not to mention the fact that we should have killed the game off in the first half.

To not take our chances AGAIN, it's the same problems as last season! Another 25m spent and none of the problems we've encountered have been addressed yet.

I'm really starting to think that there's something wrong with the culture of the club/team. I mean, we've had 4 different managers in the past 2 and a bit years. I know its only the first game, but if Rodgers can't turn the team around, God help us.

Liverpool have gone from being contenders in 2009 to also-rans in 2012 with essentially the same core players (Reina, Agger, Skrtel, Gerrard, Lucas).

The only thing that's carried over between the eras (from owner to owner and manager to manager) is this ridiculous transfer policy. The fact that we've learned nothing from past mistakes is absolutely infuriating. And when we actually DO take something from a mistake we take the wrong thing away.

We realise "wait a second, we've overspent on mediocre players" so instead we continue to sign the same calibre players for smaller transfer fees saying "well...no big loss if they flop this time" instead of signing higher quality players.

And to suggest that we can't lure anything better than Henderson, Downing and Adam is just ridiculous. Quality players like Suarez, VDV, Falcao, Vertonghen, etc. can be lured to clubs playing at our level.
