Went into last nights game too attacking in the line up. I know Rodgers wants to get Sturridge in, but he should've replaced Coutinho whiles he's not in form instead of playing 2 up front not compromised our midfield which he did. Could also have Suarez play on the left and Sturridge up front.
With the gap in the midfield, villa were way too easily able to play on the break which kept them in the hunt to actually win the game, but skertel was solid in the back to prevent that in the 2nd half. Toure was having an off game, think a Sahko-Skertel CB pairing would be our strongest atm.
Hope this can be a kick up the backside we need like when we lost to hull, but I think it might have ended any likelihood that we are in the title hunt come business end of the season, just gotta stay consistent enough to get back in Champions league for the time being.

We played a thousand times better with Lucas on the pitch and Gerrard higher up the pitch. Hopefully Rodgers learns from his mistake.

Going 2-0 down at home is abysmal. Another week, more woeful defending which needs to be sorted out. Cissokho isn't playing enough to adjust to the way wingers in england are willing to take him on.

Yep - enough troubles leaking at the back now losing Lucas really opens the door for his defensive coverage is immense !

Fuck.
I'd rather Joe take Lucas' place instead of Gerrard. Stevie is a god amongst men, but he proved first half against Villa he's not suited to that defensive midfield role. We played much better with Stevie further up the pitch.

De Jong in the picture ? I see something on Salah but I'd far prefer we bolster our backs asap if funds are there for BR, surely he'd be working on this.

Lucas' injury is a bit of a disaster that's been waiting to happen. There are some good FA midfielders available this summer so it'd be a good idea for us to have a solid crack at bringing in some depth there.

TBH Gerrard has never struck me as possessing the skill set to play defensive mid in a set up like yours, he's definitely far better utilized further up the field imo.

His questioned form for England for years should say everything on the matter of him playing as a holding midfielder.

Doesn't matter imno - whoever lines up for this game will lift big time, this feels the most important in a while considering where both teams are placed at present - I'm staying home for this not going anywhere till the fat lady sings.

Most important derby since we were playing for position back in 2005.

Perfect timing for me, it will finish around 8.45/8.50 and it's a 10min walk to work. Excellent.

afro - we got what we have, not ideal but thats the way it goes, BR must be working OT in the back ground on the lads, I'm edgy its a must win ! So....I don't see any signings before window closer  it would be nice but......... Edited by M.L.: 28/1/2014 04:59:09 PM

Edited by M.L.: 28/1/2014 04:59:09 PM I can't see us signing anyone either. I think we're being priced out of the market.
