I don't see why we would trade him in for Adam and run the risk of having to rebuild the team chemistry when the guy has been holding the team together on multiple occasions. It's mildly understandable from a business sense, but from a football sense it's crazy and this is a football club first, business second.

Yeah, we all knew the terms. He was on a very low wage and was supposed to be offered like a 70% increase after the first season if it was deemed a success.
Obviously FSG want to turn a profit on him while we still can. I can understand from a business standpoint why they want to do it, but it's still disappointing.

I guess if anyone knows what's going on it's a London newspaper...

The Times are reporting that Meireles is on the transfer list after a dispute about a payrise that was agreed to last summer when he joined on reduced terms.

I'm increasingly uneasy about the notion of Meireles leaving.
Adam is the last player we need to sign. With Aquilani returning we've got a lot of depth up front. We need to take care of the problems on the left wing and strikers.

I'll be really upset if Raul leaves. I think he's been what kept the team together and brought the best out in Lucas all season.
Buuuuuuuuuuuuuut, with Aquilani coming back we'll have a serious oversupply of midfielders if we bring in Adam...but then, we'll be able to leave out Spearing. I'm not sure if that's a win or a lose.

Sounds like we're going to wrap up the signing of Adam in a day or two though. Whether that also means Raul is leaving, I'm not sure.
Sounds like Aquilani is coming back too according to his agent.

Raul was the only reason we didn't completely fall apart in the absence of Gerrard last season, for him to leave would grossly undervalue him. As for Adam, yeah, he's little better than a squad player.

If we sell him and bring in Adam i'll be very angry. I don't really rate Adam tbph. Decent squad player but not at the expense of Raul.

That's not half bad for a lad who a year ago couldn't hit a pass further than 5m
I'm a bit miffed at these reports of Meireles leaving.

 Hardly. His passing completion was also one of the best in the league, 83%.

We can move for players overseas now, but they can't join the club until July 1st. I don't think that's an issue with the number of players competing at the Copa America.

Respect to Sunderland fans: http://www.facebook.com/pages/SAFC-want-justice-for-the-96/155823741154661?sk=wallNewcastle and Chelsea have done the same now. Very nice gesture. JFT96. Also: GAEL CLICHY is ready to rebuff interest from Roma in an attempt to force Arsenal into letting him join Premier League rivals Liverpool. Serie A side Roma are preparing to trump Liverpool’s opening bid of £5million for France defender Clichy, but he favours a move to Anfield. His stance leaves Arsenal in a difficult position having let the left-back’s contract run down to within 12 months of its expiry. Arsene Wenger ideally wants to sell abroad, but is eyeing Newcastle’s Jose Enrique as a possible replacement for Clichy and could reluctantly do business with Liverpool, who are also trying to secure the services of teenage striker Connor Wickham from Ipswich. Liverpool will have to match Sunderland’s opening £9m offer, but Sunderland’s deal rises to £11.5m depending on the player’s progress and Ipswich owner Marcus Evans is adamant England Under-21 international Wickham will not be sold for less just because he prefers a switch to Merseyside.

ynwa wrote:is there any genuine interest in Mata coming to LFC?? i know fans (myself included) would love to see him here, but i think its more from fans than any concrete interest.... KD mentioned him in an interview a few months back and skysports kind of ran with it. I don't know if there has been any offer tabled. My sources around anfield have gone a bit quiet lately and EOTK is on holiday so the transfer rumours are a bit quiet.

Many sources have linked us with him. There is definitely something going on, but whether he ends up here or not - I don't know.

The Doctor wrote:we had a friendly against Atletico apart of the Torres/Garcia deal, No? I don't think so. Torres joined us in 07, we played the Atletico friendly in 09, but that too was at Anfield. imno wrote:But is it just a coincidence? I doubt it. I'm not sure. It would be unusual for it to be a part of the Mata deal and be played AT anfield.
