Different sound to Silence The Sirens. It's a lot more up beat, where as STS had more sullen feel. Quote:From what I've seen of there BDO performance, they'd be absolutely amazing live too. I'll do my best... They're absolutely amazing live. I haven't had the privilage of seeing them live because their last tour out here was an over-age gig :( But I've seen the DVDs, Volkerball & Live Aus Berlin. I'll die if they don't come out here with their new album.

Used a shitload of auto tune. With all due respect. What would you know? Most modern rap nowadays is utter bullshit pop music thats been toned down so much the wiggles could perform the songs and maintain their G rating.

Witha ll due respect, people only ever say that when they're about to say something compeltely disrespectful and rude and know it. Who the fuck are you to question my educated opinion. I'm in the record industry. I hear enough of the stuff. Hip Hop in general is a shadow of its former self and the lyrics are genereally average. I will concede that there is some stuff that takes a great deal of tallent, but a lot of it's just rubbish.

You said 'all to much' of todays rap is about how big your dick is. Thats far from the truth. As i said, todays hip hop is toned down so much so it can be played at any time on the radio. To get more exposure, to get more money etc. etc. Even saying dick would hamper your prospects of selling more albums and getting your music out there. Its all about making money, not making good music.

pretty sure 50cent has said some worse things than 'dick'. And just the ONE song with those lyrics is too many. If only there was more of a correlation between making money and good music:(

Bought Mastodon - Blood Mountain yesterday. Had not heard much by them, but i thought i'd give em a listen based on all the hype. The album is unbelieveable. Best thing I've heard in ages. Awesome stuff.
On rap, I think you have to take a lot of lightly. I mean, when you listen to Aussie rap, its kinda meant as a joke. Some of its really funny too, like 2up (i think they're called that). It's what Eminem based his works on early on too. For me it fell apart for him when he went ridiculous with it in order to make money (eg. My Band, Lose Yourself, etc). Problem with people like 50 Cent is they take themselves seriously in order to portray themselves as gangsta. I think we can all agree there is far too much crap in the rap industry overriding the good, talented stuff.

I'm not sure you get shot however many times for being a 'joke' but still...it does ruin the industry.

But 50 doesn't rap about that. Its - we gonna sip bicardi like its your birthday; None of his music is really about himself or the streets and how tough they are. He portrays that look while fuelling his money desire by coming up with melodies (actually I doubt he would come up with them) so the 13 and 14 year olds buy it...

It might not be about how tough the streets are, but in that same song he still has lyrics like; "You can find me in the club, bottle full of bub Look mami I got the X if you into taking drugs I'm into having sex, I ain't into making love So come give me a hug if you into to getting rubbed" and "My flow, my show brought me the doe That bought me all my fancy things My crib, my cars, my pools, my jewels Look nigga I got K-Mart and I ain't change"
It's all about the shit that he got. How good he is and terribly unsubtle allusions to sex. It's aimed at a young market and it's fucking shit.
Now lets compare this to Tool's subtle allusion to sex, or more specifically, being fisted... The lyrics to the first stanza of Stinkfist: "Something has to change. Un-deniable dilemma. Boredom's not a burden Anyone should bear.
Constant over stimu-lation numbs me but I would not want You any other way.
Cause, It's not enough. I need more. Nothing seems to satisfy. I said, I don't want it. I just need it. To breathe, to feel, to know I'm alive.
Finger deep within the borderline. Show me that you love me and that we belong together. Relax, turn around and take my hand."
Much more creative, much more intelligable and much more intelligent!

Plus its just an awesome song... Its better lyrically where the lyrics aren't even the most important part, whereas it SHOULD be key in rap. But yeah, i see what you mean.
