Seeding = people who you're downloading the file off of. The more 'seeds' the faster the download. As I have only 1 seed, My download is sprinting along at a wonderful 0.7kb per second.

Haven't really found myself liking Horizon, bit odd maybe that I like Parkway, but thats how it is... Is there new one different to their other stuff? I'd give it a go if it is.

Absolutely different. They've completely dropped the whole scene-deathcore thing. It's more of a Punk-Hardcore/Metalcore sound, with some groove thrown in. His vocals are completely different too, and they even use clean vocals in one of the songs. I'm stunned at how much better it is.

Haha, fucking love that video. I reckon they should have held some competition where the band actually came to play at the winners birthday, would have been great publicity.

Bring Me The Horizon - Chelsea Smile

Still can't get over this album. 96 plays since I downloaded it Thursday morning :d

Just listening to Full Metal Racket. Its talking about Metallica's Death Magnetic, and whether it sounds better on Guitar Hero. Basically the engineer has said it has a serious sonic problem, compressing the audio too much, and that the guitar hero version is much better...

Do you know much about it Funky? As a big Metallica fan whats your opinion? And afro, do you know much about it? You would have worked with this sort of stuff before?

There's a big thing in the music industry to be louder than anyone else. It's been going on for a while. That's what happened to Death Magnetic. You can hear it, there's a lot of distortion around the guitars, you can barely hear the bass, quiet parts of the song are at the same volume as loud parts of the song. Whether Metallica wanted it this way or the Label wanted it this way I don't know. I do know that Metallica were on tour when the Record was being mixed, and ok'd it over the phone. So yeah, the sound quality on the CD release, is poor. Not horrible, its listenable, but its still poor.

However, when they sent the album to GH to be put up for download, they had to send it early, cos it takes time to tab out the songs etc. So they sent the album before it was messed around with. So the Quality is a lot better. You can hear the bass, the guitar isn't distorted, etc. I've downloaded it, it really does sound a lot better. So yeah, the GH mix >>> the original mix.

Industrial. Some stuff sounds like old corn...but it's got all kinds of grinding sounds, the crunchy guitar and there's tracks wtih Gregorian chanting, which sounds awesome with the genre blend.

Yeah, I liked the first Drowning Pool album, sounded a little like Seether IMO. Haven't heard much after they changed their vocalist.

Re: The metallica album and a crytical listening point of view...
It's just poor engineering. The Bass gets lost in the guitars, the Kick gets lost in the bass (When you can actually here it) and the demand to be louder than anybody else (as funky said) removes any real dynamic from the album. But they've been doing that for years, if you listen to Enter Sandman, there is potential for a massive dynamic range in that track, but even back then they brutalised the track with overcompression. The overall effect is that you en dup with a sound very much epitomised by 30 Seconds To Mars where all the sound is in your face and all the instruments are competing for space. Even when the instruments are panned out on a stereo set-up, because of the lack of dynamic it presents broad, wall of sound, kind of effect that tires out the listener's ears. Which is an effective tactic if your album runs out of puff.

Really I would have expected a more meticulous approach from Rick Rubin...but what it comes down to is the mastering studio was just fucking shit. Does anybody know who the mastering studio was?? It wasn't Turtle Rock was it?

It wasn't the mastering engineers fault. Read this article:
http://damn-games.blogspot.com/2008/09/death-magnetic-guitar-hero-mix.html

He basically dis-owns it, so it was whoever was in charge of the mixing that screwed this up.

Ok...I see what's going on. And from what I understand, this is actually entirely Rick Rubin and the engineer's fault. When you send an album off to be mastered you usually leave about 4dB of head room for the mastering engineer to play with levels. But the mix that the mastering engineer has recieved is so loud and the signal so hot, that there was simply nothing he could do wiht the dynamics of the album.

I'll take your word for it, you know more about it than I do. Its disappointing that the album had to be blighted like this, and that the music industry is obsessed with this stupid Louder = Better mentality. It's why I like listening to vinyl so much.

Yeah, that is one of the benefits of Vinyl. It's actualyl interesting on the club scene at the moment, the DJs are being turned away from Vinyl again because of the louder is better mentality because the sheer volume of the Bass reverberating around the room (especially since they are situated so close to corners and bass speakers) mean that the needle feeds back and they cant' get a good sound.

Haha yeah. I actually love the instrumental track The Crusade. Its probably my favourite off the album. Anthem is a good song live as well. Shogun is a top album, just prefer Ascendancy... So far.
