He stared to get a bit of a name for himself around 1975 in New York and inspired the likes of the one and only Grand Master Flash who was the first man to use headphones to mix the next record into the the other, which gave birth the era of Turtablists. Then there was the Sugar Hill Gang who hit the charts massivley in about 1978. Then it all exploded! and the wonderfull Music and culture that we call Hip Hop was born. The person responsable for scratch was Herbie Handcock I think the song was called Axle 10?? in about 1984. Grandad as spoken.

I always thought it was Grand Master Flash who "created" hip-hop, just assumed basically... And that he influenced the others. Point still stands though, whether it was the 80s, or 1975, a lot of genres were well and truly going. The point on Hancock just provides evidence that hip-hop beats grew from the stuff like Jazz and Soul. They were 'doing it' before hip-hop was.
Going back to the original point, Dead Kennedys were around a lot earlier than Body Count.

Going back to the original point, Dead Kennedys were around a lot earlier than Body Count. Yeah so did I until I saw a doco on the history of Hip Hop. Plus I did some research on Grand Master flash, cause I was lucky enough to an interview with him in 2002 for Muzik Mag when I was doing freelace Journo in London. It didn't get printed though. It was supposed to be straight Q&A, but when I went to play back the tape from the dictphone I could hardly work out what he was saying cause the back room was behing the stage and it was really loud. I did get signed poster and photo with him!! I got it framed in my studio!! BTW: Strange how Ice Tea was the original "Cop Killer" now he plays Cop in a lame CSI type TV series. What a sell out. DK was about 1980 wasn't it? Bodycount came out around 1992

You lucky fucker. Grand Master Flash
Pity you couldn't get it printed though. Would have been some money in an interview with him wouldn't there?
Yeah, Ice-T is a sellout, but really, most rappers are. Snoop is probably the best example. DK were around late 70s, early 80s.

It would have been worth about 150 Quid in Aus about $400 I'm just glad I got to meet the man. Snoop dog: I wouldn't be suprised if there is Snoop dog Lunch Box, or had his own line of aftershave, he's so sold out, but goof luck to him, he's making a fortune!

Thats why its shit now. Basically sounds like the Metal Scene. Except I think there's a bigger market for it, so a lot of the under ground bands, or bands who don't sell out, can still end up fairly successful.

You only need to get into the top 100 in the US charts and you've already sold a few million records. I saw this show on Fox that showed The Bling homes of Rappers. There's these guys with indoor swimming pools and sports cars that I'd never even heard of.

Yeah. It's the one advantage of losing all my songs on my computer (which I'm still praying to get back), I'm going back through all my CDs. Even been playing a bit of Pac and old old Black Eyed Peas stuff. :P

What happened?

I don't know tbh. The whole thing just fucked up, and doesn't turn on properly. It loads continuously. Some crazy virus no doubt. The song loss is the only thing I care about it. 7000 songs over 3-4 years of "collecting". If I don't get the comp back working, I'll probably never get all those songs back. :(

What happened? Ive done that. Twice! Mine fixed itself magicly after three months of dust collecting. I lost 200gb of stuff. Got my 10gb of music back which was the bets bit. + 100 movies. Heaps of games. It was like christmas.

Got a computer store or something nearby, at the very least they could probably save some of the stuff on your hard-drive. mk0825 wrote:Ive done that. Twice! Nico wrote:I'd almost pay $500 to save those songs tbh... Cheaper option, buy a USB Drive, send it to me, I'll fill it with as much music as possible, and send it back. Won't be all the same stuff, but at least it'll be there.

Nice Nico. Lesson learned huh? Get yourself an external HDD and back all your music up onto it.
This weeks 'album of the week' was Trivium's Shogun...Solid album, but nothing special. Worse songs than D-Mag, better mixing. I prefer it to D-Mag although it does have a slightly less mature sound to it in many aspects.

What initially drew my attention was the attractiveness of the girl, stuff dreams are made of, but then i heard the song on which i had also heard the other day. I had no idea what it was and i could scarsely remember the beat which i liked so i tried every song in the top 20 on youtube to find out what it was.

MGMT seem to be everywhere atm. Tired of their style of vox.
