Just heard "Do What You Do". Its like one of their older songs, without the same impact & energy. It seemed okay though. Hope some of the other songs are a bit quicker and heavier...

Not their best song on the album IMO.
It has a bit of a corny ring to it, the Kick drum is poor and too middy so as not to clash with the Bass guitar and it actually sounds a bit like Karma & Effect era Seether tbh. It's a good song, but not the best on the album.

Yeah, that's probably their best album.

Empire is an awesome album

i was talking about the song but the album is great too.

I prefer there self-titled album, but Empire is certainly great and shows the possibility of this band, and that they were not a one show wonder (think Wolfmother).

The song Empire is good but there are better - Clubfoot, Reason Is Treason, LSF, Processed Beats, Cutt Off, and Doberman. Actually going over that, their self-titled fucking pwns.

Nah, I don't like it when my bands become EPIC - everyone ends up hating them because they produce mediocre shit for singles to get airplay... Perfect example is Kings Of Leon. They were cool, and then they became EPIC and everyone loved On Call. It ruined it for me. Kasabian would be the same.

Edit: Exactly like what mk said. I don't like it either - but you would only know them for that, and so you'd consider them an "annoying" band. Whereas they actually make some really good music when its not aimed at 12-14 y.o kids...

When I say empire are 'epic', I don't mean incredibly awesome, I mean that's the only way to describe their sound. Their guitars are massive and they have these HUGE sounding operatic style vocals.

Outcast by Dialectrix. Could be the next big thing on the Aus Hip Hop scene since HTH.

That's not half bad. Seems like he's overemphasising the aussie accent at times, especially in the chorus.

He's not really emphasizing it at all - they never really intend to at least. The aussie accent can be the best tool and the worst enemy depending on the producer.

Well who os missy higgins' producer?? Because he clearly hates the aussie accent the way he overemphasises it and butchers it.

Depends on the style of beat. I usually think of four different types of beats/dubs:

- Old Skool (although its probably not the real old skool)(eg. Hilltop Hoods) with drumkits, horns (trumpets, saxes etc), guitars/strings, piano, turntable. And even more American influenced electronic beats eg. Bliss n Eso.
eg. Hilltop 1; Hilltop 2; BnE 1; BnE 2; BnE 3; Simplex and one of my all-time favourites, don't even need to like Aus Hip Hop to appreciate this → Watchdog Waterdragons: I made an awesome tribute slideshow last year of all the images I could find on the Newcastle flood... until my Youtube account was suspended. >.<

- New skool (eg. The Herd) with pretty much the same as above, but turntable is almost non existant and replaced with fucking laptops. So pretty much a mix of Old skool and electonic beats, but more of a lighter tone to it as opposed to the more sombre connotations of the above. This kind of Aussie hip hop is admittedly predominated by elefantTRAKS.. more left-wing, and predominantly political content than traditional Aussie hip hop.
eg: The Herd 1; The Herd 2; The Tongue; and the controversial I Was Only 19

- Reggae-influenced: Not too much into this - mostly far left-wing political BS (look up Combat Wombat - name says it all really) But Astronomy Class are just that - class.

- Comedic: Most Aus Hip Hop albums will have at least one song that's just a muck-around... Aus hip hop is notorious for its larrakin songs, which many associate the entire genre with: calling it 'gay' and 'stupid'. This fucking pisses me off - as does thinking that just because you like Hilltop Hoods, you thus like Aussie Hip Hop.
