That's like saying "Well, beside Pretty hate machine, NIN have used drummers on all their albums" you know while it's not wrong, it's only looking at a small section of the picture to support your argument. They used a drum machine, more than once. End of. Edited by afromanGT: 15/12/2008 12:01:22 AM

It was originally recorded using drums, and then tweaked using Drumkit From Hell. Completely Different. And I'm still yet to see a reasonable, logical reason as to why their use of the program is bad.

Because you're paying to hear a recording, not a computer! A computer can do anything, it's all 1s and 0s. If I pay for a band's album, I expect it to be the band on the album. It's almost as bad as going to a concert where the artist mimes.

But it's only one instrument, out of a band of 5. And like I said, they did it as an experiment, I don't see the harm in that.
I think we'll just have to agree to disagree.
(In Before "I don't agree to that")

'only one instrument'...if they used a synth keyboard for the lead guitar, you'd be pissed. Because it's not the same.
It's been a while since I've heard this one, but Mr Jack by SOAD.

Yes, but that's because they're completely different sounds. When its a program created to achieve the exact same aim as the instrument, made using actual sounds from that instrument, when played by the artist its replacing, I don't think its that big a difference.

You can't create a program that will replicate the sound of Haake playing drums. It's only sampling his hits, it doesn't have the nuances of his playing at all.

But it's still a lot closer than a synth keyboard to a guitar, or other replica programs.

Not really. A good synth can replicate a guitar very well.

So it's getting to that time of year, I don't know about anyone else, but I usually compile a 'top 10 albums' list in my head, but I'll probably mine in here, be interested to see other people's list.

And this is why I fucking love Mastodon. Quote:Dailor goes on to explain the "Crack The Skye" concept: "There is a paraplegic and the only way that he can go anywhere is if he astral travels. He goes out of his body, into outer space and a bit like Icarus, he goes too close to the sun, burning off the golden umbilical cord that is attached to his solar plexus. So he is in outer space and he is lost, he gets sucked into a wormhole, he ends up in the spirit realm and he talks to spirits telling them that he is not really dead. So they send him to the Russian cult, they use him in a divination and they find out his problem. They decide they are going to help him. They put his soul inside Rasputin's body. Rasputin goes to usurp the czar and he is murdered. The two souls fly out of Rasputin's body through the crack in the sky(e) and Rasputin is the wise man that is trying to lead the child home to his body because his parents have discovered him by now and think that he is dead. Rasputin needs to get him back into his body before it's too late. But they end up running into the Devil along the way and the Devil tries to steal their souls and bring them down…there are some obstacles along the way."

I'm more disappointed that there's not going to be any Josh Freese. He's just taking things in a different direction. The light show's been going on for the whole of the Year Zero and Ghosts tour and it had to be put to bed sooner or later. My concern lies in his "and that's it" after announcing the planned tours. Is "that it" for NIN or for NIN touring or is that all he's got planned?? I think he's just doing what Trent does best and raising a whole heap of questions knowing full well that the show would be bootlegged onto the internet.

The word is he's done with touring, which I assume is what he meant by 'and that's it'

:-k I think that's a fair call, he's been doing it for a fair while. But sometimes what Trent says and what Trent does are two different things. Not to mention, he's a bloke who changes his mind.

Not to mention, he's a bloke who changes his mind. Yeah. I've tried to like the bloke, but he does have a bit of a god complex about him. Getting pissed off at the crowd because they weren't clapping in time and 'throwing him off' comes to mind. And when he stormed off the stage last tour because someone threw a lighter at him.

Well, I do remember a certain Corey Taylor launching an entire microphone stand at somebody who heckled him. And we're all familiar with the DEP/towel story. I dunno about god complex, but sometimes it adds to the nature of the band. I'd like to meet him in person to get a chance to judge him on his merits then.

And what is this DEP/Towel story, I've never heard it.

Point is, Trent Reznor isn't the only person to get the shits on stage... At a concert in Canada last year Greg was heckled so he backed on out into a towel and flung it at the heckeler.
