How many gigs have you even been to this year? I imagine it was good, as they are a great band, but gig of the year I am very doubtful. There was this small band at this tiny little concert called Rage Against The Machine that would take that honour.

TBH Rage werent that good really. The bronx were more energetic and over all fun

=; "Head like a hole..."
Fuck man. Nobody puts on a concert like Rage.[-(
If you didn't like rage that much, then all I can say is it was a fucking waste that you got the tickets ahead of someone who really appreciates what they do. I was shattered to miss out.

I am a fan of Rage but their live performance leaves alot to be desired

No, no, no the best is Slipknot by far. They are just f**ckin crazy when they get going on stage.

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Iron Maiden put on the best live show. End of. And fair enough random, I enjoyed it massively, but that's because Rage mean so much to me. Wish their set had been longer though.

Iron Maiden put on a good show, but I find the whole Eddie thing a little questionable.

Half of Slipknots stage act is not thje music but what they actually do on stage. The hydraulic drum sets were just brilliant as was the effects with their masks.
My sister went to Linkin Park, she said it was really good, but I'm not a fan.

Yes, Joey drumming upside down is impressive. But anybody can put on marks and flash lights on them and make them jump around a bit.

He listened to those albums in 2008 didn't he??

If funky's going to post a top 10 then I guess I should aswell:lol: Can't have the Audio Engineer not.

10. Wahtershed - Opeth. Another Epic sounding, classic blend of sounds from Opeth, more clean vocals than we're used to and a great sound.
9. Death Magnetic - Metallica. If this was their first album, you'd be thinking "fuck, fair effort from the new kids." But as it wasn't, it was a little disappointing. They were swept up in the whole 'must be louder than the next guy' thing. The trouble is, that's the only real fault with the album. It's a very good album otherwise, but it doesn't reach out and grab you like previous albums such as Master Of Puppets or the black album did.
8. The Alchemy Indexes - Thrice. Four EPs spead out over two, two disk albums. One for each element. And stepping away from their more traditional sound for a more mature one was a big gamble, but in the end it paid off in a very well constructed album with a lot of great sounds, especially on the 'Fire' EP.
7. The New Game - Mudvayne. An album based around the murder mystery of your best mate. Novel concept, creating some interesting lyrics and a return to the sound that we love Mudvayne for.
6. The Slip - Nine Inch Nails. Another great album, two in the year is a great effort, while some lamented the lack of vocals in Ghosts, that was certainly made up for in The Slip and what immediately hits you is the driving snare drum through the album. At first you think 'well that's a bit cheap having it the same' but then you realise how well Reznor has done to have the same snare beat for 10 tracks and have them all sound completely different.
5. Sharing Space - Cog. Excellent second album from the Cog lads, fantastic heavy riffage and a lot of drive. Some heavy political statements that certainly could have alienated a fair few fans but it worked well and the album was fantastic. A grower too.
4. Shogun - Trivium. Why couldn't Metallica have sounded more like this?? The Best thrash album since Children Of Bodom's Are you Dead Yet?.
3. Funding Beauty In Negative Spaces - Seether. Came out in most of the world in 07 but in january here so I'm including it. The best grunge album in a long time. Some critics don't think much of it, but it's a solid album with great tracks, Seether's best offering so far.
2. All Hope Is Gone - Slipknot. Their sound matured so much from their previous album to this one. While keeping various aspects that defined 'slipknot' from previous albums they managed to harness that melodic sound that works well with Taylor's voice and found a great balance between 'slipknot' and 'stonesour' sounds.
1. Ghosts I-IV - Nine Inch Nails. Fantastic album, completely daydreamy album, great blend of sounds and for a 2 hour album with 0 lyrics ar all, it disappears all too quickly. Some absolutely genius original sounds on there. Playing a baking tray with a chain around it for a snare drum and playing guitar with a roll of foil is such an original sound.

Honorable mentions:
Conquer - Soulfly, Forfeiture EP - House vs Hurricane, Korven Kuningas - Korpiklaani, Suicide Season - Bring Me the Horizon.

[ctrl],[.] albums:
A hundred Million suns - Snow Patrol, Viva La Vida - Coldplay, Circus - Britney Spears.

On a Side note, I bought Serj Tankian's album Elect The Dead today. Awesome. Although, you do spend the whole time going "Why couldn't SOAD sound like this anymore??"

you can tell that between toxcity and mezmerize/hypnotize soad had changed....FOR THE WORSE!!!

mezmerize and Hypnotize made me embarrased to be a soad fan .Those albums were really terible apart from one song B.Y.O.B which i must say was a master piece so fast and heavy it didnt deserve to be on the same album. They really needed to get back to their roots some hard grunge type of music which i find soad so hard to describe because they were so unique itll be a good 5 years before we see them back together i rekon and then we will find out if they were better off apart .Plus serj tankian solo is awsome and scar on broadway is fairly average

Vicinity of Obscenity was ok off Hypnotize, BYOB and the tracks not written soully by Malakian were ok on Mesmerize.
But They were nothing in comparison to tracks like Chick 'n' stu, Mr. Jack, Suit Pee, Chop Suey!, Aerials etc.

yer serj's new album wasnt half bad but i think his music and soads music has come to critical of everything like politics religion ,i mean its good for them that they are writing stuff they believe but after a few albums it gets old and after the first or second one if ur album hasnt created a up roar about it it means no ones listening .But i thank soad for giving me a intro into a mad genre but im over them and im never gonna go back down there its kinda turned into mainstream for me ,and i cant stand mainstream
