Yeah, he deserves to be a lot bigger here. He's still fairly popular, but the man's probably the greatest artist to ever come out of this Country.

It seems kind of odd that there isn't much demand for him, I guess it's largely because he doesn't want to put his name out there and 'sell out'.

It's typical of very talented 'artsy' bands and performers who are literally too talented for their scenes here in Australia; they need to go to the continent to get the exposure they deserve. Same thing happened with Radio Birdman, the Saints, Triffids etc, and now with The Drones.

It helps that Nick Cave's guitarist (Blixa Bargeld, from Einsturzende Neubauten) is German as well.

Chocolate Rain - Some weird kid
Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Astley

Oh god there so annoying, but so good! #-o

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Just "acquired" The Last Baron, the final song on the new mastodon album. It's pretty good. It's not an epic album closer, but rather it captures the whole essence of the album, and the story, and finishes it off, which I think is perfect. Cannot wait to listen to this album in full, on top notch quality, and possibly high as a kite.

http://www.last.fm/home

"Last.fm is a music service that learns what you love...
Every track you play will tell your Last.fm profile something about what you like. It can connect you to other people who like what you like - and recommend songs from their music collections and yours too."

I use to know what I'm listening to (as stupid as that might sound), for concerts going and to find new music.

http://www.last.fm/download

If you downloaded something it would have been the scrobbler. It picks up the music you listen to Itunes, MEdia player, whatever (you can get one for your Ipod too) and puts it on your account. I can't remember, but it may well be an automatic thing when you first sign up?

Mercy Seat is so fucking epic, it's amazing to say it but Johnny Cash's cover is so inferior.

Add to that list;

- The Ship Song
- Red Right Hand
- Stagger Lee
- Saint Huck
- Weeping Song

Having seen that comment about fifty cent...I found the timing quite ironic and had to leave a linky to this here http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/616-50-Cent-Blood-on-the-Sand

Also, just wondering if anybody on here (Jazzmaster) is familar with the "Year Zero Phenomenon"

The radio thing isn't so much for listening to a particular band, it's listening to artists similar to the band you searched for. It's a good way to find new music.

The New Prodigy album is good, iritatingly catchy, but it probably goes just a little too long and by the end it feels a bit repetative.
The New Static-X album is also good, but I'm a little sick of the "dime special" guitar sound. And Josh Freese on the drums is missed somewhat, is there no band that man can't improve?

Also, I was doing a bit of reading last night, and I have to say, Trent Reznor is a genius, I might be a fan boy but I'v got nothing on the people playing his "alternate reality game".
The game wrote:
The story takes place in the United States in the year 2022, which has been termed "Year 0", by the American government, being the year that America was reborn. The U.S. had suffered several major terrorist attacks, apparently by Islamic fundamentalists, including attacks on Los Angeles and Seattle. In response, the government granted itself emergency powers and seized absolute control on the country. The U.S. government is now a Christian fundamentalist theocracy, maintaining control of the populace through institutions like the Bureau of Morality and the First Evangelical Church of Plano. Americans must get licenses to marry, bear children, etc. Subversive activities can result in these licenses being revoked. Dissenters regularly disappear from their homes in the night, and are detained in federal detainment centers and sanitariums, if not executed.

The government corporation Cedocore distributes the drug Parepin through the water supply, making Americans who drink the water apathetic and carefree. There are several underground rebel groups, mainly operating online, most notably Art is Resistance and Solutions Backwards Initiative. The First Evangelical Church of Plano is a fundamentalist Protestant Christian church which is favored by the neo-conservative government. The Church has a "neighborhood cleansing program" for vigilante church members. Feeding the evangelical fundamentalism is a phenomenon known as The Presence, a huge, paranormal hand that descends from the sky. According to the website I Am Trying To Believe, The Presence is a mass hallucination brought on by Parepin.

According to the ARG, the corporate, government and subversive websites were transported back in time to the present by a group of scientists who were against the authoritarian government, and sent these Year Zero websites to the year 2007 to warn the American people of 2007 of the impending dystopian future, to prevent it from ever forming in the first place. Indeed, Art Is Resistance is a presently active online group dedicated to preventing the dystopian future depicted in the ARG.

Trent was faced with a conundrum, since marketing and the record industry is going down the gurgler (they sell as many records in a year in australia as they used to in a week back in the 70's), how does he get his album out there??
" The term "marketing" sure is a frustrating one for me at the moment. What you are now starting to experience IS "year zero". It's not some kind of gimmick to get you to buy a record - it IS the art form... and we're just getting started. Hope you enjoy the ride."
So he creates a game, an 'alternate reality game' based around this album that he wrote (the album is basically an essay he wrote about his stance against the Bush Administration), which is now in the process of being turned into a television show/movie. Not only is it a whole new concept, but he is set to reap millions from the marketing. Let the record show that I'll not be playing 'the game'.
