Just read that the Jets will enter at the QUALIFYING stage, not group stages, I will go hunt the link.

Source it.

would suck for wellington.

It's been well known and was reinforced at the AFC recently that they are ineligible for the Asian Champions League. Pick a reason from below.

- Current playing squad would be ineligible for the Champions League in its current format
- Team is based in a non-AFC country.
- You could almost add that, now NZF is funding their ressies/youth team, that their long-stated claim (from Tony P and Terry) that they are 'an Australian club residing in New Zealand' is a joke. This team is working for NZ interests. Period.

The rule has beewn set for a while now, so no use arking up now.

I would post a reference for the league placing preference over cup performance, but I can't seem to find it, so carry on with your random speculations about why the Jets will get the spot.

I believe the rules say that the spots go to whoever wins the league and who wins the grand final. However if the same team wins both then it goes to the other grand finalist. So that is where placement in the finals series has been placed above league position.
It would be pretty strange though, Newcastle came 6th last year, get away with a scoreless draw (admittedly a decent effort against GCU with Smeltz) then just hold their nerve in a penalty shoot out. Go over to Wellington and get beaten. Officially coming 4th in the finals. Going into the qualification stage would be good though, if they are better then the other clubs vieing then they get the spot. Still seems unlikely as nothing more has been heard.
