Funky Munky wrote:So I've spent the last few days pumping Deep Blue. Deffinitely up there with Pendulum for best album of the year so far. I don't know if I can seperate them yet. But Deep Blue is a superb step forward for Parkway. It's melodic, the songwriting is more refined, there's less breakdowns (I never thought I'd see this as a good thing, but it suits the album), and the lyrics are still cheesy (Some great lines in there though). I personally reckon it's quite easily alongside Horizons as their best, and might even be beyond that. Standout tracks so far are Deadweight, Karma, Home is for the Heartless, Unrest and Sleepwalker. Have had basically the opposite. That there are 2-3 good tracks on it and the rest is just crap. Massive disagreement on Deftones, can't understand how you find them boring. Certainly my album of the year thus far.

Yeah, S_Fan mentioned Youngbloods, and I've been listening to it too. Pretty fantastic album. Can't believe you don't like Deep Blue mate, What don't you like about it?

I haven't heard it yet. I like Sleepwalker, but that and Unrest is all I've heard. Most of the people I know that are into that scene dislike it and said the production is crap and its overall boring. That's what I've heard. I'm yet to make my own judgement.

Finished listening to Enter Shikari's Take to the Skies. Good album, though not as good as I expected. a lot of friends who had listened to it said it was the best thing they'd heard, and they have pretty similar taste. While there's no doubt it is a good album, it's not as good as they seemed to make out. having said that, it's still a fine album.
BTW, what would people classify that genre as? And what exactly is the genre punk now? A lot of people regard ADTR and similar bands, whereas i think it sounds different to the my perception of punk, the music pioneered by Patti Smith, The Ramones and The Sex Pistols which influenced punk bands like Sum 41, + 44, Blink 182 and the Offspring.
Also Run the Red Light-British India What if-Cog
Getting into Placebo as well

In regards to the genres, I've heard Enter Shikari referred to 'Electrock', which pretty much covers it. In terms of punk, I considered bands like Blink, Sum 41, Offspring as 'Punk Rock', and bands like Rancid, The Clash, etc as 'Punk'.
ADTR are more hardcore/metalcore really. But in the end, It's gotten to the stage, where you can't just classify a band as one genre. They all take influences from a range of things.

Regarding Benjo's question on punk: Punk is dead. Has been for a while now. It died about the tim Blink 182 went mainstream and pop rock/grunge/alternative blended together for bands like ADTR, Alexisonfire, etc.
Enter Shikari are kind of electrorock...but I'd also describe Pendulum, Kasabian and Celldweller as that...genres are perculiar things.

Punk talk got me into them. Also pretty good morning music.
Love those pics btw funky. Wonder if Mustaine came out and played his song "The Four Horsemen" with the Metallica boys. :P

I have no doubt we'll see some amazing releases later in the year. Especially if Tool's album comes together soon.

This is tool we're talking about. That'll be 2012's album of the year. Looking forward to Avenged's new album, and maybe 36 Crazyfists.

Nah, their releases have come at 5 year intervals...I'd say 2011 the album will drop.
Waiting to see how long it's going to take for Celldweller to finish up releasing their album in segments too.
A7X's new album looks very promising.
T-rizzle is still working on some stuff too.
